Start your visit at the Stone Forest (Shilin), one of Kunming’s most famous attractions. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features towering limestone formations that resemble a forest of stone. Walking through the paths between these dramatic rock formations is like stepping into a natural wonderland.
Visit the Green Lake Park (Cuihu Park), a beautiful urban park located in the heart of Kunming. It’s a great spot for a leisurely walk, especially in the spring when cherry blossoms bloom. You can watch locals practicing tai chi, feed the koi fish, or enjoy a boat ride on the lake.

The must do in Kunming is the Dragon Gate, located on the cliff of the Western Hills (Xishan Mountain) where you can have a view of the Dianchi Lake. The seagulls at Green Lake are a wonder and if you visit during the winter time, this is definitely a must see place in Kunming. Yuantong Temple is very tranquil and best visited in the late afternoon.

Kunming is a national historical and cultural city in China. Humans lived and multiplied around Dianchi Lake as early as 30,000 years ago; Dian Kingdom was established in 278 BC and its capital was established here; Nanzhao Kingdom built and extended the East City in 765, marking the beginning of Kunming’s construction ; At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the Yongli regime of the Nanming Dynasty established its capital in Kunming. Take a brief tour through the Golden Temple, also known as Tongwa Temple, the largest copper temple in China. Originally built in 1602 and then destroyed and rebuilt in 1890, the Golden temple has become the most famous Taoist Shrine in Yunnan Province. The temple grounds also have a 3 story bell tower, a series of heavenly gates, greenhouses, gardens, and plenty of natural scenery.

The capital of China is a big, busy city but it's little hutongs are a lot of fun to explore. The Summer Palace and the Forbidden City are both really worth seeing as well.
CHAKA SALT LAKE -
A lesser visited gem, located about 4 hours away from the city of Xining in Qinghai province. Famous for it's mirror-like reflections of the sky.
CULTURE SHOCK
I received a lot of comments saying that people had some reservations and fears about visiting China. To be honest, I felt the same way before I went.
DALI -
An ancient city in Yunnan province that has a little bit of everything that I love! There's nature on the shores of Erhai Lake and up in the heights of Canshan Mountain. The stunning Three Pagodas temple and the bustling culture of the ancient city.
GREAT WALL OF CHINA -
Requires no introduction. But I really recommend exploring the wilder and more remote areas of the wall, rather than the touristy sections. In this film I looked at 3 different areas and compared the strengths and weaknesses of each.
HONG KONG -
A giant, sprawling city. Which also has some amazing natural spots like Lantau Island and Kowloon Park, That's what I focussed on in my travel film.
KUNMING -
Kunming has a reputation for being a transport hub, but it's actually a really fun city to spend a few days. The Dragon Gate and Green Lake Park are particularly great and are the main focus of my travel guide linked above.
LIJIANG OLD TOWN -
A beautiful ancient town with stunning maze like streets. It rained most of the time we were there, so I went searching for the little hidden gems of the streets.
RAINBOW MOUNTAINS -
This was the best day that I had in China. Away from the Danxia Landform Geopark is a peaceful national park that is so worth exploring. It feels more like Australia or the US than China.
SHANGHAI -
The last stop that we had in China. You can get some amazing views from the World Financial Centre Viewpoint.
TRAIN TRAVEL IN CHINA
The main way we got around China. We booked everything through China Highlights, which made thinks very easy (not sponsored, just good):

so this summer i was blessed to be able to return to the town Kunming in #china where i grew up in.
this was a really special video to make for me as it was the first time going back since my family and I returned in 2020 at the peak of #covid19
for the older followers, some of these places are probably familiar to you and therefore i hope you are able to travel down memory lane with me during these 30 minutes.
i know it is a bit longer than most of the videos i've been uploading recently, but there was no way i could've capture all the emotion and feelings given only 15 minutes or so.
so for the new viewers, i hope you guys enjoy this video and experiencing a bit of the place i called home for 18 years of my life before moving back to Singapore.
that is the thing about being a third culture kid (growing up somewhere outside of your home country), there is never really a place you can call home, but rather it's the family and community you find in those places that make it mean so much more to you.
