ANTALYA TURKEY: Top 10 UNMISSABLE things to see (MUST Watch!!!)

Today I share with you the top 10 things that you must see in Antalya Turkey. This is the best video you will ever see on Antalya Turkey as I show the top must-visit attractions of this city.

Hadrian's Gate can be found in Antalya city, and was made during the Roman Empire to welcome Emperor Hadrian to the city.

The heart of the Old Town is known as Kaleici and you can spend hours here wandering the narrow cobblestoned streets. It is easy to find Kaleici as the starting point is the Saat Kulesi or clock tower. There are many famous tourist sights to visit in the old town including the Seljuk era Yivliminare Cami, the Ethnography Museum and the Dervish Lodge museum. There are also many Ottoman-era houses in Kaleici which have been converted into hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. Walk down to the base of Kaleici and you will find yourself in the ancient Roman harbour.

Konyaalti beach is located to the west of Antalya and is considered to be the most popular beach in the city. The views surrounding the beach are very enchanting with the majestic Taurus Mountains in the background.

The Antalya Archeology Museum is one of the largest museums in Turkey and exhibits thousands of ancient artefacts that were discovered in this region. The museum is easily accessible by taking the Nostalgic tram to the Müze stop in Konyaalti. Here you can find prehistoric objects, ancient coins, Roman Imperial statues and a mosaics hall. I found the marble statues of emperors and empresses discovered in the ancient city of Perge the most fascinating.

The Roman Harbour, also known as the Marina, is probably the most iconic image of Antalya. Here you can find many boat tour operators, as well as restaurants and cafes.

The Yivli Minaret Mosque, which is also known as the Aladdin Mosque or Grand Mosque was built in 1230 during the reign of Seljuk Sultan Aladdin Kaykubad I. The mosque’s fluted minaret was decorated with blue tiles and is considered to be a symbol of the city.

The Antalya Nostalgic trams run from Lara beach in the east, to Kale Kapisi (the clock tower) in the centre and Konyaalti beach to the west of the city. You can use the Antalya Kart to travel inexpensively across the city.

Perge is 18km to the east of Antalya, and is easily accessible by taking the tram to Aksu, and then a short taxi ride to the city. It is one of the most well preserved ancient cities in Anatolia. Research in the areas shows that Perge has a prehistoric past that possibly dates back to the 5th millennium BC, and the city experienced glorious days during different periods. During Alexander the Great’s capture of the region in 333BC, the people of Perge well Alexander’s forces without any resistance. The last glorious era for the city was in the 5th and 5th century AD during the Roman Empire. Excavations have been conducted since 1946 and many of the impressive statues of emperors that were discovered can be found in the Antalya Archeology Museum.

Dervish Lodge Museum - The Mevlevi Lodge Building located in Kaleiçi, is one of the most popular touristic places of Antalya and belongs to the Seljuk period. Although it does not have an inscription, it is thought to have been built by Sultan Kayqubad I in 1255 and started to be used as a Mevelvi Lodge since the 16th century. The Museum, consists of the Mevlevi Lodge, Bath, and the tombs of Mehmet Bey and Nigar Hatun. It hosted activities like classes about Islamic Philosophy, reading activities about Mesnevi and Divan, seminars, sufi music concerts and whirling ceremonies. Nigar Hatun lying in one of the tombs in the complex was the mother of Sultan Korkut, the son of Beyazid II. The other tomb dated 1377 was built by Mehmet Bey, who was nicknamed ‘Chain Breaker’ because he managed to conquer Antalya by breaking the port chains. The Ney is wind instrument played by Sufi's during the sema and in the video you can view this beautifully being played by @RoyalOttomanSociety

The Lower Duden Falls is probably the most popular tourist attraction in the city. This breathtaking waterfall is located in Duden Park, in the Lara district of Antalya. There are two waterfalls with the same name, the Lower and Upper Duden falls, and they both pour from the Duden River, which is one of the largest rivers in the region.

Antalya Broken Minaret must see places

Antalya is a stunning coastal city located in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. One of the most iconic landmarks of Antalya is the Broken Minaret, which is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the city.

The Broken Minaret, also known as Korkut Mosque, is located in the old city center of Antalya, and it has a fascinating history. The minaret was originally built as a Roman temple in the 2nd century AD, and later it was converted into a Byzantine church in the 7th century AD. After the Ottoman Empire captured the city in the 14th century, the church was transformed into a mosque, and the minaret was added to the structure.

The minaret is called the Broken Minaret because it was damaged in an earthquake in the 19th century, and since then it has been left as it is. Today, the minaret stands at about 14 meters tall and is a striking example of the city's diverse history.

Visitors to the Broken Minaret can admire its unique architecture, which combines elements of Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman styles. The mosque itself is also impressive, with its intricate decorations and peaceful atmosphere.

Aside from the Broken Minaret, the old city center of Antalya is full of other attractions that are worth exploring. You can wander through the narrow streets and alleys, marvel at the ancient architecture, and discover hidden gems like the Hadrian's Gate, the Antalya Museum, and the Hidirlik Tower.

In conclusion, the Broken Minaret is an iconic symbol of Antalya's diverse cultural heritage and a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the city. Its unique history and stunning architecture make it a fascinating place to explore, and the surrounding old city center is full of other treasures that are waiting to be discovered.

Travelling in Antalya | Old Town Kaleici And City Center

I'll give you the smart route that you can use in your travelling in Antalya. Or you just can have a walk with me and enjoy the wonderful views and learn some interesting facts from my video.

1) Handrian’s Gate -
One of the most popular landmarks of Turkey. It was built in the name of the Roman emperor Hadrian, who visited the city in the year 130. It is the only remaining entrance gate in the walls that surround the city and harbor.
The gate is about 8 meters high and now is functioning to provide access to the old district of Antalya - Kaleichi.

2) Kesik Minaret Mosque («Broken Minaret» of a ruined mosque) -
Was originally built as a Roman temple in the 2nd century AD.
Restoration work began in 2018. In 2019 the top cone and roof were restored. The structure officially reopened as a mosque in 2021 on the 5th of March, the day Antalya was conquered by the Seljuk Empire.

3) Hidirlik Tower -
It is 14 meter tall and dates back to the 2nd century AD. The original use of Hidirik Tower has never been confirmed, so the mystery is part of the charm of the antique structure.

4) Karaalioglu Park -
The green and quiet park with panoramic platforms and picturesque views. It is not just park but zoological garden as well. They say you can even meet wild parrots here.

5) Ataturk House & Museum -

Antalya Old Town, City Center Walking Tour

Start your visit to Antalya in the historical city centre which takes in Hadrian's Gate, Hidirlik Tower, Yivli Minaret, Kesik Minaret, and Kaleiçi with its narrow streets and historical houses and the ancient port. All are within an area of one square km. You can cover all this on foot, which is a good thing as cars are banned on certain streets.
Kaleiçi can be visited at all hours of the day but the best time is towards evening. Many of the historical houses and mansions of Kaleiçi have been restored and a large number of them are being used as hotels, pensions, bars and shops.
Antalya is not a city with just sun, sea and sand. It has a great history especially in the Kaleiçi district.

Real Hector Barbossa - Barbarrossa Hayreddin Pasha Tomb Walking Tour -Trip / Travel - #shorts

Walk with me 👉
My walk map 👉

Hayreddin Barbarossa (Arabic: خير الدين بربروس, romanized: Khayr al-Din Barbarus, original name: Khiḍr; Turkish: Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa), also known as Hızır Hayrettin Pasha, and simply Hızır Reis (c. 1466/1478 – 4 July 1546), was an Ottoman corsair and later admiral of the Ottoman Navy. Barbarossa's naval victories secured Ottoman dominance over the Mediterranean during the mid 16th century.

Born on Lesbos, Khizr began his naval career as a corsair under his elder brother Oruç Reis. In 1516, the brothers captured Algiers from Spain, with Oruç declaring himself as Sultan. Following Oruç's death in 1518, Khizr inherited his brother's nickname, Barbarossa (Redbeard in Italian). He also received the honorary name Hayreddin (from Arabic Khayr ad-Din, goodness of the faith or best of the faith). In 1529, Barbarossa retook the Peñón of Algiers from the Spaniards.

In 1533, Barbarossa was appointed Kapudan Pasha (Grand admiral) of the Ottoman Navy by Suleiman the Magnificent. He led an embassy to France in the same year, conquered Tunis in 1534, achieved a decisive victory over the Holy League at Preveza in 1538, and conducted joint campaigns with the French in the 1540s. Barbarossa retired to Constantinople in 1545 and died the following year.

Background
Khizr was born sometime between 1466 and 1478 in Palaiokipos on the island of Midilli (Lesbos), a son of an Ottoman sipahi father, Yakup Ağa,of Turkish or Albanian origin from Giannitsa (now Greece), and an Orthodox Christian Greek mother, Katerina, from Mytilene (also Lesbos). His mother was a widow of an Orthodox priest. The couple married[5] and had two daughters and four sons: Ishak, Oruç, Khizr and Ilyas. Yakup took part in the Ottoman conquest of Lesbos in 1462 from the Genoese Gattilusio dynasty (who held the hereditary title of Lord of Lesbos between 1355 and 1462) and as a reward, was granted the fief of the village of Bonova on the island. He became an established potter and purchased a boat to trade his products with. The four sons helped their father with his business, but not much is known about the daughters. At first Oruç helped with the boat, while Khizr helped with the pottery.

Early Career
All four brothers became seamen, engaged in marine affairs and international sea trade. The first brother to become involved in seamanship was Oruç, who was joined by his brother Ilyas. Later, obtaining his own ship, Khizr also began his career at sea. The brothers initially worked as sailors, but then turned privateers in the Mediterranean to counteract the privateering of the Knights Hospitaller (Knights of St John) who were based on the island of Rhodes (until 1522). Oruç and Ilyas operated in the Levant, between Anatolia, Syria, and Egypt. Khizr operated in the Aegean Sea and based his operations mostly in Thessaloniki. Ishak, the eldest, remained on Mytilene and was involved with the financial affairs of the family business.

Death of Ilyas, captivity and liberation of Oruç
Oruç was a very successful seaman. He also learned to speak Italian, Spanish, French, Greek, and Arabic in the early years of his career. While returning from a trading expedition in Tripoli, Lebanon, with his younger brother, Ilyas, they were attacked by the Knights of St John. Ilyas was killed in the fight, and Oruç was wounded. Their father's boat was captured, and Oruç was taken as a prisoner and detained in Bodrum Castle at Bodrum for nearly three years. Upon learning the location of his brother, Khizr went to Bodrum and managed to help Oruç escape.

Oruç, the corsair
Oruç later went to Antalya, where he was given 18 galleys by Şehzade Korkut, an Ottoman prince and governor of the city, and charged with fighting against the Knights of St John, who were inflicting serious damage on Ottoman shipping and trade.[citation needed] In the following years, when Korkut became governor of Manisa, he gave Oruç a larger fleet of 24 galleys at the port of İzmir and ordered him to participate in the Ottoman naval expedition to Apulia in Italy, where Oruç bombarded several coastal castles and captured two ships.

On his way back to Lesbos, he stopped at Euboea and captured three galleons and another ship. Reaching Mytilene with these captured vessels, Oruç learned that Korkut, who was the brother of the new Ottoman sultan Selim I, had fled to Egypt to avoid being killed because of succession disputes – a common practice at that time.
