Kelvin Walkway | Glasgow to Milngavie | Clydeside to Countryside
The Kelvin Walkway extends the West Highland Way south to the centre of Glasgow, from Milngavie to Glasgow Heliport on the north bank of the River Clyde, where it can be linked to the longer Clyde Walkway that continues south from the city. The route follows, as much as possible, the three rivers of the Allander, Kelvin and Clyde, to form a 'green link' from the bustling city to the countryside.
On this walk we start from the Riverside Museum, head north through the city before crossing open countryside and eventually finishing in Milngavie.

Cairnpapple Hill, Scotland, 4,000 Year Old Burial Mound, Henge & Ritual Site, West Lothian, Scotland
Cairnpapple Hill is a fascinating Neolithic and Bronze Age site in Scotland, run by Historic Scotland. There's a small visitor centre, manned by very knowledgeable and friendly staff, who really help to bring the place alive. The site is located on a prominent hill, offering spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, all the way to the Queensferry Bridges and the Firth of Forth. I'd always try to go on a day of clear weather, if you can, to enjoy the incredible views.

It's about a couple of miles outside Bathgate in West Lothian and it takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour to drive there from Edinburgh City Centre (leave plenty of time). It's worth noting that there are some steps and a little bit of a climb up to the complex, which does make access more tricky for anyone with mobility needs. It's also a descent in to the cairn itself, via quite a steep ladder, so please do be aware of this and be careful. I have some issues with one of my legs, but managed to get down safely. Please also note that the site currently has no toilet facilities.
The highlight of a visit has to be the reconstructed graves inside the modern cairn. There is a charge to enter the cairn itself which I was happy to pay. Do ask for concessions, which may be applicable. I found the site to have a very interesting atmosphere and ambience, which along with the amazing views, made it well worth a visit. If you're not really into history and ancient monuments it may not be for you, but I found it to be fascinating and personally felt that the views were worth it alone (which are free!).

The landscape in the Scottish highlands is wild and full of harsh beauty. A paradise for outdoor fans and lovers of myths and traditions. Tamina Kallert's journey begins with a ride on Harry Potter's Hogwarts Express, the train on which the filming was made. At her other stations she will experience the Corryvreckan sea whirlpools in a speedboat, go on an e-mountain bike tour at the foot of the mountain Ben Nevis, try playing in the bagpipes and learn a Scottish competitive sport: let stones jump over the water. She also visits the beautiful island of Skye with its historic clan families and castles, and learns to weave tweed on the island Lewis and Harris. As a highlight, she feeds sea eagles from the boat.

The John Muir Way Leg 3 - Strathblane to Kilsyth
After a rest day that included a tour at the Glengoyne Distillery, we left Strathblane’s Kirkhouse Inn for Kilsyth.
It was a cool morning at 12C when we departed at 9:10am.
Lots of great sights were in the offing today including stone arch bridges, creeks and canals, along with a great bridge opening to allow a canal boat to pass through!
We’ll spend the evening at the Boathouse Inn in Kilsyth.
Watch for our entire series on The John Muir Way!

Old Photographs Kilsyth Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Kilsyth, a town and civil parish in North Lanarkshire. From earliest recorded times Kilsyth was one of the main routes between Glasgow, Falkirk and Edinburgh, and is very close to the Roman Antonine Wall, the Forth and Clyde Canal and the main Glasgow to Edinburgh railway line. The Civil War Battle of Kilsyth took place on hillsides between Kilsyth and Banton, North Lanarkshire in 1645. Kilsyth was later closely associated with the various attempts by the Jacobites to regain the crown. The town economy has shifted over the past three centuries from farming, handloom weaving and extractive industries to light engineering, transport and service industries. Many of the townsfolk of working age now commute to work in nearby Glasgow and other larger towns nearby. Following its foundation as an early monastic settlement, the town has a long tradition of radical protestantism and was the scene of major revivals under the leadership of James Robe in 1742 and William Chalmers Burns in 1839, part of the Second Great Awakening. William Irvine, evangelist and founder of the Two by Twos and Cooneyites sects, was born in Kilsyth in 1863 Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. @tourscotland

How Awesome Is This Place
Watch this short video to find out more about some of the fantastic activities that take place at Manchester Cathedral.
Carron Valley
Get a taste of the Highlands in this rolling forest on the shores of the Carron Valley reservoir. Enjoy an easy waterside stroll or family cycle ride, a blast through the forest by mountain bike or tackle the distinctive peak of the Meikle Bin for panoramic views over central Scotland.
These woods are alive with wildlife and history – discover standing stones, old drove roads and a reconstructed Iron Age fort, spot red squirrels and crossbills in the trees and watch for ospreys and waterbirds from the lochside hide.
There are toilets in the main car park, including accessible facilities, which are open year-round. Find places to eat, drink and shop at the nearby towns of Fintry, Denny and Kilsyth.
Parking and picnicking
The car park at Carron Valley is open from 7.30am to 9.00pm in the summer and 7.30am to 6.00pm in the winter. Stroll across the little bridge beside the car park to reach a pretty picnic spot on a grassy island in the Carron River. There is also a small car park at the other end of the reservoir called Todholes.
How to get here
Carron Valley Forest lies beside the B818, west of Denny in Stirlingshire.
Take the B818 west from Denny, signposted to Fintry. The car park is on the left after about 6 miles (10km), at grid reference NS 721 848. The car park is open from 7.30am to 9.00pm in summer and 7.30am to 6.00pm in the winter.
There is also a small parking area at Todholes at the other end of the reservoir.

FK6 5JL is the nearest postcode for the main car park.
