Khulna is the third largest city in Bangladesh after Dhaka and Chittagong.It is the administrative territory of Khulna District and Khulna Division.
Khulna was part of the ancient kingdoms of Vanga and Samatata. It became a part of the Sena dynasty during the 12th century reign of Ballala Sena, and formed part of the Bagri division of Bengal.
The region was previous known as Jahanabad.

Khulna (Bengali: খুলনা ) is the third largest city in Bangladesh after Dhaka and Chittagong.[3] It is the administrative seat of Khulna District and Khulna Division.The economy of Khulna is the third largest in the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh, contributing $52 billion in nominal gross state product and $94 billion in purchasing power parity terms as of 2020. In the 2011 census, the city had a population of 663,342. The Khulna metropolitan area had an estimated population of 1.022 million in 2014.[5]
Khulna is a port on the Rupsha and Bhairab Rivers. A hub of Bangladeshi industry, it hosts many national companies. Khulna is served by Port of Mongla (the second-largest seaport in the country), and is one of the two principal naval-command centres of the Bangladesh Navy. The navy base BNS Titumir is in the city.
A colonial steamboat service, including the Tern, Osrich and Lepcha, continues to operate on the river route to the city. Khulna is considered the gateway to the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest and home of the Bengal tiger. It is north of the Mosque City of Bagerhat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Khulna is a district under Khulna Division of Bangladesh. It is the divisional city. In a word, it is the capital of South Bengal. It is the third biggest city and one of the mega cities of Bangladesh. Districts were formed in 1882. The district is located in the west-southern part of Bangladesh. Khulna is named after a goddess of the Hindu religion, Khulleshwari. It was also known as “Jalalabad.” Khulna was the first subdivision of joint Bengal at the time of East India Company Period. Pir Khan Jahan Ali came to preach Islam in this district about 400 years ago. In 1926 Mahatma Gandhi came to Khalishpur to motivate the Swadeshi Movement. There are many interesting tourist places in Khulna to visit. The area is famous for to cultivate big Shrimp fish which is known as white gold.

আপনি খুলনায় জ্যাম দেখতে পাবেন না। যদি দেখতে পান তবে সেইটা আপনার কপাল। (আমি খুলনায় জ্যাম দেখলে খুশিই হই কেন যেন)
