In this video I share my experience in Cappadocia, Turkey during a recent visit with my wife.

Nestled in central Turkey, this place is just an hour's flight from Istanbul and is renowned for its breathtaking hot air balloon rides.

First off, it's essential to know that Cappadocia isn't just a city; it's an entire region. Landing in the charming town of Göreme, situated on the far eastern edge, offers proximity to the captivating rock formations and fairy chimneys. Staying here has its perks – from the surreal rock formations literally within the town to a myriad of amenities like restaurants, hotels, and unique cave dwellings that define the landscape.

One fascinating aspect of Cappadocia is how homes and facilities seamlessly integrate into the rock formations. It's a different approach compared to some places in the American West. In Cappadocia, people have been living in these rock formations for thousands of years, some converted into luxurious cave hotels, creating a unique and immersive experience.

And speaking of unique experiences, I had the chance to stay in a cave hotel. The room was comfortable, but the real treat was the view from the deck overlooking Göreme, making it an unforgettable stay.

A quick tip for exploration: venture to the outskirts of Göreme, where trails offer opportunities for horseback riding, hiking, and even climbing into fairy chimneys. It's the same area where hot air balloons take off, but exploring it later in the day provides a different perspective.

Renting a car is a wise choice to explore the broader Cappadocia region. Places like Uchisar, with its ancient castle, and Love Valley, though a bit touristy, are worth a visit. Love Valley might raise an eyebrow with its name, but the rock formations are intriguing.

Now, let's delve into the main attraction – the hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia. It's a bucket list item for many, and for a good reason. The experience is surreal, offering a unique vantage point of the extraordinary landscapes.

The process begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel, typically between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., and a transfer to the launch site. However, the ride is weather-dependent. If conditions aren't optimal, the meteorologists won't give the green light. In the summer, chances are high; in winter, it's the opposite. In-between seasons, like April, it's a bit of a gamble.

Landing a spot on the outer edge of the basket is a smart move for better photo opportunities. The liftoff is gradual, providing a calm and controlled ascent. The pilot's confidence and the stable, secure feeling contribute to a memorable experience, even for those uneasy with heights.

The flight, lasting around 45 minutes to an hour, takes you close to rock formations, fairy chimneys, and offers spectacular views. It's a visual feast, with everyone on board capturing the moments on their phones. The landing is typically smooth and uneventful.

Regarding reservations, booking online beforehand ensures a guaranteed spot, but it comes at a premium – 300 Euros as opposed to 200 Euros if booked locally. Keep in mind that if weather conditions prevent the balloons from flying, you'll get a refund.

As the journey comes to an end, there's a mix of exhilaration and a touch of sadness that it's over. The views, the experience – it's all so extraordinary that you wouldn't want to miss this opportunity. Cappadocia, with its enchanting landscapes and the magical hot air balloon ride, is indeed a destination that should be on everyone's bucket list.

I Met Some Kind People in Kayseri | Solo Travel | Kayseri, Turkey Travel Vlog 🇹🇷 (Ep. 5)

In this video, I visit Kayseri, Turkey. The most unique part of this city, in my opinion, is the giant market (bazaar) in the center of the city. It's absolutely massive! You can find just about anything there!

After walking through the Kayseri bazaar for about 45 minutes, I walked across the street to the castle of Kayseri. There's not a whole lot to do there. You can walk around and look at the walls, grab a cup of coffee/tea, or visit the museum.

Just as I was exiting the castle, I heard 2 men try to get my attention. I approached them and they started to have a conversation with me. After just a few minutes, one of the men offered to show me around the city. We had such a fun afternoon exploring!

We walked to a couple old mosques which have been transformed in to small education centers - one man wrote my name on a piece of paper in a really unique style, we stopped to buy water at a meat shop and the man offered some samples of his products, we also visited a clock tower, and also stopped to have tea as the sun went down.

Soon later, the man needed to return home, and 2 other men sat next to me and started talking to me. We sat for a very long time and chatted about so many interesting topics.

The people of Kayseri were very kind and hospitable! I really enjoyed my random walking tour 🙏🏼

Kayseri Museum, Kayseri | Turkish Museums

The first museum in Kayseri was opened in 1930 in the historic Hunat Hatun Madrasa building. After outgrowing that structure, the museum was moved to a newly constructed building in 1969. After 50 years of service, the museum was upgraded to a new building within the Kayseri Castle in 2019. Thousands of priceless artifacts spanning the centuries await your visit at this state of the art museum.

Finding breakfast in Kayseri. Turkey's most boring city? 🇹🇷

So Kayseri is the most boring city in Turkey I was told. Is that true, is Kayseri the most boring city in Turkey? I went out to find a bakery to get some breakfast in Kayseri and to see what this city has to offer.

We were Goreme, the centre of Cappadocia, but only for the weekend, and I knew as it was in the mountains, it wouldn't have fast internet, so we'd need to move out of Goreme, and as we'd just landed from Istanbul, I didn't really want to just straight back onto a plane, so we got a bus to Kayseri, which is about an hour away.

When I told people I was going to Kayseri, they just wondered why, they asked why, they were confused as to why somebody would go on holiday to Kayseri in Turkey, it's not a tourist destination. Well we're not going for tourism, we're going to work for the week, then fly to a tourist destination on the weekend. We just needed somewhere with an airport and a good internet speed so we could work.

If you don't already know, we're working remotely, full time. So we work Monday to Friday, have evenings and weekends off, just like at home, but we're also travelling.

KAYSERI (ENGLISH)

Kayseri
Kayseri has been one of the most important trade centre in Anatolia over the history. Located in the right centre of the country, it has the feel of a modern, busy city but also has a strong traditional and religious atmosphere. The setting is spectacular, with the mountains of Erciyes Dagi and Kara Dagi in the background, a snow-capped volcano and green fields, and the nearby Sultansazligi bird sanctuary. The city is also well known for its textile and carpet industry, and has impressive monuments that reflect its history. Kayseri has always been a popular option as a base to explore Cappadocia.

Sharing some insider Cappadocia travel tips no one tells you about!

1. There is no local transport available from Kayseri airport to Goreme, apart from taxis which can be super expensive. So pre-book your airport transfer.

2. Only the post-office and two more travel agencies in Goreme exchange currency so make sure you have enough cash for your stay and get all the exchanges beforehand.

3. Be prepared for the dust! Very dusty is an understatement for Goreme and since it is a arid desert-like region dust storms are common.

I went on a road trip by myself in Kayseri and after a short time, I was already impressed by how many different things you can explore in this province. I started my trip in Kayseri City, went to the Soganli Village, Sultan Sazligi Milli Parki, explored the Kapuzbasi Waterfalls, stopped at Mount Erciyes, saw wild horses in Hürmetci, and ended the trip back in Kayseri City.

I didn't have any problems traveling alone and really enjoyed some time by myself. The nature is beautiful, the food delicious and the people warm-hearted. Thank you, Kayseri for a great time!
