Mt. Tabor Overview Tour: Transfiguration of Christ, Israel, Deborah, Barak, Jezreel Valley, Apostles
Mount Tabor is the best candidate for the transfiguration of Christ. It has a lot of evidence dating back to the Old Testament, along with believers after the time of Christ, who set this site aside as the true place of the transfiguration. Location
1. Mount Tabor, rising like a dome-like mountain from the Plain of Jezreel, is the place where Christian tradition places the transfiguration of Jesus.
2. It’s about 11 miles (15 km.) southwest of the Sea of Galilee and about 5 miles (8 km.) east of Nazareth.
3. Mount Tabor stands some 1,500 ft. (457 m.) above the Jezreel Valley plain in lower Galilee.
4. It held a strategic position at the junction of several trade routes. For this reason, many battles have been fought around it.
5. It is mentioned as one of the key mountains in Scripture: The north and the south, you have created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name (Psalm 89:12).
Historical Background
1. In the Old Testament, Mount Tabor is described as a sacred mountain and a place for worship. It is not mentioned by name in the New Testament.
2. Throughout its history, it has been a place where mankind has sought contact with the divine.
3. It also served as an important fortress during the Old Testament, Greek, Roman, and Crusader times.
4. It is best known as the believed place where the transfiguration of Christ took place, an event in the Gospels in which Jesus is transfigured upon an unnamed mountain and speaks with Moses and Elijah as described in Matthew 17:1–9, Mark 9:2–8, and Luke 9:28–36.
5. Christian tradition in the early centuries named Mount Tabor as the place of the transfiguration of Christ. This location is cited in early apocryphal writings and was accepted by the Syriac and Byzantine churches.
6. The earliest identification of the Mount of Transfiguration as Tabor is by Origen in the 3rd century.
7. During the Byzantine period, due to the importance of Mount Tabor in Christian tradition, it became a pilgrimage site from the 4th century and onward. According to descriptions of the pilgrims visiting this site during the 6th century, there were three churches that resided on the top of Mount Tabor.
8. Some biblical scholars today now question this tradition. These scholars see the much higher Mount Hermon as a more likely location as it was closer to Caesarea Philippi, where Peter’s confession of Christ took place.
9. However, there is great value in considering the 2,000-year traditional history of this site.
10. Scripture says that the transfiguration of Christ took place 6 days after Peter’s confession of Christ in Caesarea Philippi. Mount Tabor is about 40 miles (65 km.) south of Caesarea Philippi which could easily have been reached in 6 days.
11. It’s really not important where this event happened but that it did happen.
12. Today, there are two main churches and monasteries on top of Mount Tabor marking the event of the transfiguration of Christ. They include the Franciscan Basilica of the Transfiguration and St. Elias Greek Orthodox Church.
Places of Interest
1. Franciscan Basilica of the Transfiguration – Main church that is visited and sits at the highest part of Mount Tabor. This church, which is part of a Franciscan monastery complex, was completed in 1924. It was built on the ruins of an ancient (4th–6th-century) Byzantine church and a 12th-century church of the Crusader Kingdom period.
2. St. Elias Greek Orthodox Church – Located on the northeast side of Mount Tabor. It’s named after the Prophet Elijah.

2. It was a fishing village and had one of the largest fish markets in the northern Galilee area.
3. It has one of the oldest, well-preserved synagogues in Israel.
4. This synagogue was in use during the time of Jesus and He certainly would have preached here on a regular basis.
Matthew 4:23: And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.
5. On one occasion, Jesus came to this area after feeding 4,000 people on the eastern side of the Sea of Galilee.

Western Wall, Western Tunnels Overview Tour: Kotel, Jerusalem, Holiest Site in Judaism, Wailing Wall

BOOKS ABOUT ISRAEL BY TODD FINK:
Location
1. The Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall (because the Jews weep here during their prayers) is located on the western side of the Temple Mount.
2. The Western Wall Tunnel is accessed on the northern side of the Western Wall Plaza and runs north to the end of the Temple Mount Platform.
Historical Background
1. When the Romans destroyed the temple in 70 AD, part of the western side of the Temple Mount Platform survived. For hundreds of years prior to 1967, people prayed in the small area of the wall that could be seen at that time. However, in 1967, following the Six-Day War, Israelis excavated below the ground level of the wall and found two more stone rows. They then cleared the area around the wall to create the Western Wall Plaza that visitors see today.
2. The Western Wall is part of the retaining wall, or support wall, that Herod the Great built in 19 BC when he enlarged the Temple Mount complex in order to accommodate a larger temple and Temple Mount area. It was a massive undertaking that required exceptional and sophisticated engineering.
3. Unlike many think, the Western Wall was not part of the wall of the temple King Herod Built.
Places of Interest
1. In the Western Wall Plaza area, a walkway bridge can be seen that tourist use to access the Temple Mount.
2. The Western Wall Plaza is divided into two sections: a men’s and a women’s section.
3. The area close to the wall is considered a synagogue, so men must wear a head covering when entering the men’s section.
4. Most Jews do not enter on the Temple Mount for fear of unknowingly walking in the place where the Holy of Holies might have been. Plus, Muslims do not want them entering there as well.
5. The Western Wall Plaza is the closest large public area to the temple and Holy of Holies for the Jews. Therefore, it is their most holy site.
6. On the northern side of the Western Wall is Wilson’s Arch, which is the modern name for a stone arch whose top is still visible today. It once supported a bridge that provided access to a gate that was level with the surface of the Temple Mount during the time of Jesus. Under this arch is a synagogue where Jews pray and read the Scriptures.
7. The Western Wall Plaza is only 10% of the entire western wall of the Temple Mount Platform. The majority of the wall is accessed by entering what is called “The Western Wall Tunnels.” We will see that part shortly.
8. The entire length of the Western Wall is 1,575 ft. long (480 m.), almost a third of a mile (.53 km.).
9. South of the Western Wall are stones that the Romans cast down when they destroyed the city in 70 AD. under the leadership of the Roman General, Titus.
10. The broken pavement of the street that the massive stones crushed when they fell is sobering to see.
11. Burn marks remain on some of the stones as a result of fire from the Roman conquest of the city in 70 AD.
12. There are remains of shops that were part of a large shopping plaza at the southern part of the Western Wall.
13. This is the same wall that Jesus and His disciples would have seen.
14. On the Southern Stair entrance to the temple is where Jesus would have taught His disciples and entered the Temple Mount area.
15. At the southernmost end of the Western Wall is a significant stone which stood upon the uttermost southwestern corner of the Temple Mount.
• It has words written in Hebrew that mean “The Trumpeter’s House.”
• A priest would stand at this corner announcing with a loud trumpet the beginning of the Sabbath, and other festival days the Jews celebrated.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

The Shrine of Jesus' First Miracle is located here, under the custody of the Franciscans, who have been present in Cana for three centuries.

V#39:Wedding Church at Cana in Galilee/Jesus First Miracle/Where Jesus Turned Water Into Wine/Israel
The Wedding Church at Cana (Hebrew: כנסיית החתונה) or simply Wedding Church, also Franciscan Wedding Church, is a religious building of the Catholic Church located in the central part of the town of Kafr Kanna (Cana), in Lower Galilee, located in northern Israel. It is dedicated to the weddings of Christianity. Its name commemorates the event of the Wedding at Cana from the Gospel of John, thought by some Christians to have taken place on the site, during which Jesus performed his first miracle, by turning water into wine at the request or behest of Mother Mary.

Holy Land Pilgrimage Tour: Weddings in Cana | Cana, Galilee | Israel | We.Are.Wanderful
Weddings in Cana
NOVEMBER 12, 2010—We passed by the quaint and sleepy town of Cana on our way to the Sea of Galilee on this particular day of our Holy Land Pilgrimage Tour.
Cana is, of course, the town mentioned in the New Testament of the Bible where Jesus attended a wedding in which he is believed to have performed his first public miracle. He turned water into wine (John 2:1-11). It is because of this that in the present day Cana is known for two things: First Miracle and Weddings.
We were to do a quick walking tour of Cana before proceeding to Nazareth this particular afternoon. But there was something special in store for us. We were to attend a wedding. Our wedding. Together with 10 other couples from our tour group, including my parent-in-law, Tatay Ben and Nanay Linda, Marie and I performed our Renewal of Vows in a beautiful and solemn wedding ceremony at the Cana Catholic Wedding Church.
This is a short slideshow video presentation of our photos in Cana, including our Renewal of Vows wedding. Enjoy watching.

4K Biblical Cana Hike in Galilee Israel
Raw tour and hiking footage of Cana (Khirbet Cana) in the hillsides of Galilee overlooking the Beit Netofa Valley. This is long, slow video but the views are amazing. This is a great view of the terrain in Galilee as we hike up and back the hill to what many believe is the site of Cana where Jesus performed his first miracle of turning the water into wine at a wedding. See a synagogue, mikveh (ritual bath), cisterns, walls, flowers, thistles, etc. This is an example of an undeveloped, barely excavated archeological site. Who knows what more could be found and identified with funding and commitment.
For scripture references, research details, and more about this location see here:

The Plain of Judea and Bedouin Camps
Judea is a mountainous region and part of it is considered a desert. Travel with us on our bus from Jerusalem toward the Dead Sea and view the Bedouin camps. Hospitality is ritualized in Bedouin camps. A stranger is a guest and honored with the main ritual: the preparation of fresh coffee. The coffee beans are green until roasted. After roasting, there is the art of grinding the coffee and the coffee grinder, as a percussion instrument, can be heard by Bedouin neighbors as an invitation to join. The Bedouin host tastes the first cup of coffee to be poured, making the guest feel safe. Then the guest is given the guest cup and others are also served. Join our travels as we see the Bedouin camps and their livestock. There are camel rides available for tourists at a gas station along the way. There are groves of date palm trees with donkeys eating the weeds, acting as the gardener caretakers of the groves. Banana trees are sheltered in shaded net structures for the hot summers and the trees bear fruit 10 months a year. The land becomes more desert in nature as we near the Dead Sea.
