The Greyest Video On the Channel: City Walk in Joensuu Finland (November 2022)
This 4K walk is from a trip to Joensuu in Eastern Finland that I took in the greyest month of the year in Finland, November, just after finalising some very stressful personal matters. Not a lot of snow yet, no light to speak of and no people around. I am aware the graphics are missing and part of the commentary refers to Christmas and events well in the past, to add to the misery.
People around me say I give too depressing a picture of the dark winter Finland to anyone who talks to me, but you have to face the facts. November in Finland is grey and a struggle to cope through! Yes, you can practice all the hygge you want and have kalsarikännit or whatever your thing to survive in Scandinavia is, but the grimness of this video is not at all lost on me.
However, we survive November and Decembers are all about beautiful snow and Christmas magic, fires, fairy lights and good food with family. Finland has the most amazing Christmases because we need them after surviving what is the most horrible month of the year, November.
With that said, I had a lovely time on this trip, I got a bright light to stay awake when days are five hours long and as we speak it is light before 6 am and past 10 pm and it is over 20 degrees. I can laugh at November right now and next year looks to be a lot more bright personally with lots of wonderful life changing things to expect.
Please enjoy this potentially greyest walk on the channel knowing this is not the reality for any of us right now, I am convinced Joensuu looks lovely at the moment with people wearing summer gear and sun shining.
