Places to Go: Kifune Shrine
Kibune is only around thirty minutes from Kyoto City, but it feels like worlds away. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle to experience a bit of tranquility and calm, take the Eizan train north. Filled to the brim with wildlife and seasonal flowers blooming along the river, restaurants and ryokan (traditional inns) serve meals on platforms built over the cool waters. Kibune is also home to the Kifune Shrine, a shrine that worships kami associated with water. Three separate locations make up Kifune Shrine; the main shrine, Yui-no-Yashiro, and the Okunomiya. Some people choose to take a certain course to make this pilgrimage. First visit the main shrine, then after you finish praying go straight back to the Okunomiya, then lastly drop by the middle shrine, Yui-no-Yashiro, as you’re heading home. Not only stunning in the summer, Kifune Shrine is absolutely gorgeous in winter as well. If you can brave the chilly weather, go to Kibune village when it is snowing and the area is covered in a blanket of snow, becoming a dreamy wonderland.

Let's take a look at the WEST EXPRESS GINGA, Japan's newest overnight train operated by JR West.
On the way there, I rode in a Green Car first seat from Kyoto to Kii-Katsuura, then toured Kii-Katsuura and stayed at Hotel Urashima, and on the way back, I rode in couchette from Shingu to Kyoto.

Top Places to visit in Kyoto: Heian Jingu Shinto Shrine
The Heian Shrine (平安神宮, Heian-jingū, 1895) exudes a special energy. Maybe because it is a site created for celebrating the 1100th anniversary of the capital’s imperial foundation in Kyoto, maybe because of the crowds that fill up the surroundings on weekends and during special events (flea markets, concerts, weddings and other occasions). There are also lots of places to enjoy on the outskirts: museums, gardens, a public library, coffee shops… For whatever reason, once you visit the Heian Shrine, it will easily become a usual place to enjoy.
The Heian Shrine itself consists of one major shrine, preceded by one of the biggest toriis in Japan and garnished with a garden behind the Shrine, especially beautiful during the hanami season. Though it is a very popular place among locals, it usually doesn’t get as crowded as other popular places like the Kiyomizu-dera or the Golden Pavilion.
In October it hosts the grand Festival of Ages or Jidai Matsuri, a procession exhibiting Japanese cultural history through the customs of the volunteers that dress for the occasion to walk the two-kilometers long path from the Kyoto Imperial Palace towards the Heian Shrine. It is also a popular place to celebrate the Shichi-Go-San (literally “7-5-3”) on the 15th Nov; where five-year-old boys and three and seven-years-old girls visit shrines for health and prosperity as they grow.

Places to Go: Kennin-ji Temple
Hidden at the end of Hanami-kōji street, Kennin-ji is a Buddhist temple belonging to the Zen sect. Founded in 1202, the founding priest was Yōsai, who is famous for introducing Japan not only to the Zen sect but also to the tradition of drinking tea. At first the temple practiced a mix of Tendai, Shingon and Zen Buddhism, but during the tenure of the 11th abbot, Kennin-ji converted to a purely Zen temple, the first of its kind in Kyoto. The temple suffered from fires and was rebuilt in the mid-thirteenth century and again in the sixteenth century. With a ceiling covered in an ink painting of two giant dragons and gorgeous interior gardens, Kennin-ji is also home to the famous painted screen depicting the gods of wind and thunder that can be found reproduced all over Kyoto.

Around the world in an hour, or even less. Visitors to Eco Park will be able to go one up on Phileas Fogg, Jules Verne’s protagonist who achieved the feat in 80 days. The entry is through Gate 4 of Eco Park, right at the corner where Eco Park ends if one is coming from the Salt Lakeside. Tickets cost Rs 30. The timings are same as at Eco Park — 12 noon to 7.30pm. Mondays are closed.

the Jishu Shrine, dedicated to Ōkuninushi, a god of love and good matches. Jishu Shrine possesses a pair of love stones placed 6 meters/20 feet apart, which lonely visitors can try to walk between with their eyes closed. Success in reaching the other stone with their eyes closed implies that the pilgrim will find love, or true love. One can be assisted in the crossing, but this is taken to mean that a go-between will be needed. The person's romantic interest can assist them as well.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple, also known as Kiyomizu Temple, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular temples in Kyoto, Japan. Kiyomizu Temple During the Autumn Season in Kyoto
Kiyomizu dera (清水寺), a landmark of Kyoto, and a popular spot for visitors to the ancient capital of Japan. From around mid November till beginning of December the many maple trees turn crimson red. A spectacular view that only lasts a few weeks.
There will be a special night time viewing with illumination from November 12 till December 4th.
Inside Kiyomizu dera is the famous Jishu shrine, a heaven for romancers. On November 23rd (from 14.00) traditional dances, including a sword dance, folding fan dance and maple leaves dance will be performed in the Hai-den Hall.
