Experiencing Southeast Asia in China | Xishuangbanna, Yunnan
Xishuangbanna, in the south of Yunnan Province, is like experiencing Southeast Asia without leaving Mainland China. Its intricate architecture, vast rainforests, delicious cuisine, and picturesque night markets are all reasons to visit. But after a four day trip in the prefecture, I left with a conflicted feeling. Even though its cultures do overlap, is Banna trying too hard to be like Thailand, Laos, or Myanmar? Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, one of the eight autonomous prefectures in Yunnan Province, has the capital city of Jinghong. Xishuangbanna is located at 21°10′-22°40′N, 99°55′-101°50′E, on the northern edge of the tropics south of the Tropic of Cancer, with an area of 19,124.5 square kilometers, bordered by Pu'er City in the northeast and northwest, Laos in the southeast, and Myanmar in the southwest, with a national border of 966.3 kilometers, a river connecting six countries, with four national ports.
Xishuangbanna is located at the northern edge of the tropics and has a tropical monsoon climate. Xishuangbanna has 1 county-level city and 2 counties, and in 2019, Xishuangbanna has an ethnic minority population of 790,300 people, with Dai as the main ethnic group and 13 kinds of ethnic groups living in the world. According to the data of the seventh census, the resident population of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture was 1,301,407 as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020.
Xishuangbanna is the most completely preserved tropical ecosystem in China, and is known as the Kingdom of Plants, Kingdom of Animals, Biological Gene Bank, and the Kingdom of Plants. It is the only tropical rainforest nature reserve in China, a national ecological demonstration area, a national scenic spot, a member of the United Nations Biodiversity Conservation Circle, and an observatory of sustainable tourism development of the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Xishuangbanna is the second largest ecological area in China.
Xishuangbanna is the second largest natural rubber production base in China, the native place of big-leaf tea and the hometown of Pu'er tea. With one 5A scenic spot and nine 4A scenic spots, Xishuangbanna is famous for its natural landscape of tropical rainforest and minority customs, and is one of the hot tourist cities in China, which has been awarded as the most internationally influential tourist destination in China and one of the 12 hottest tourist destinations in the world.

Jinghong City is a county-level city in Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China, and is the location of the state government. The total area is 6,867 square kilometers, and the total population in 2020 is 642,737. The word Jinghong means City of Dawn in Dai language.
Jinghong, Xishuangbanna, located in the tropics, has attracted many people from other regions to settle here. Some people who have settled here say that they don't want to leave after living in Banna for more than a week.

HOTEL REVIEW: Mekong River Jinglan Xishuangbanna
During our last trip to the magical city of Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province, China we stayed in two different hotels. This is the first of the two hotels we visited.
Mekong River Jinglan Hotel is located in the west of Shuangzhuang, the most popular place in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna, close to the Lijiang River, with a beautiful view of the mountains and rivers. With an overall construction area of over 220,000 square meters, the hotel has created a comprehensive holiday experience space for customers who come to eat, live and travel. There are 309 different types of rooms in the West End, 396 East Hotel Apartments, and a buffet restaurant with 500 people dining, a thousand-person banquet hall, a luxurious western restaurant on the roof, and a panoramic view lounge. A variety of luxurious meeting rooms, gymnasium, swimming pool, a thousand square meters water park, high-end spa, children's exclusive entertainment areas and other complete leisure facilities.
