OAXACA, MEXICO is a MUST VISIT
After spending 1 week in Oaxaca City we’re now reflecting on how it compares to other great Mexican cities.
►What to learn Spanish? Start your FREE TRIAL:
In our third and final Oaxaca, Mexico vlog—not forever, just from this trip—we visited El Arbol de Tule, enjoyed more delicious Oaxacan food, gawked at the beautiful interior of Templo de Santo Domingo, and chatted about Oaxaca City as a whole.
The majority of this video is an in-depth look at:
1. Oaxaca City and how it compares to other Mexican cities we’ve visited.
2. What we like and dislike about Oaxaca
3. Would we live in Oaxaca?
4. What we think of the food, culture, art, walkability, rentals, transportation, and more.
Be sure to watch the first two videos we made in Oaxaca City, Mexico if you want to see more of this magical city. In these two videos, we visit nearby cities filled with rich culture and traditions, try TONS of tasty food in Oaxaca, and explore the city on foot.

This Plaza in Mexico City is Dedicated to Mariachi! (Plaza Garibaldi, CDMX Vlog)
Mexico City blew our expectations out of the water! It's a city that we've wanted to visit for YEARS and to be honest we didn't know exactly what to expect. It's an incredible and beautiful city and would take years to truly explore the whole place. The truth is, it's enormous. Every neighborhood is so different and unique from one to the next and there's so much to breakdown in CDMX. We've decided to split our videos from there into different chapters or 'stories', in our series: Mexico City Stories.
Since this is the first one, we included our very first impressions of Mexico City in the video. It's now one of our favorite cities in the world. It reminded us a bit of Madrid, New York City, even a bit of Paris, but it's all Mexico and that full package is what really makes it so unique.
In this story, these clueless gringos learn about a huge part of Mexico's iconic culture...MARIACHI! There's no better place to experience mariachi in CDMX than Plaza Garibaldi...which is literally an entire plaza or city square dedicated to mariachi music. As soon as we found out about it, we had to book a hotel directly in the plaza's only hotel. We kept extending our stay because we were so impressed. We seriously loved the hotel and plaza so much that I think it's where we'll stay every time we visit the city, at least for short visits.
It doesn't hurt anything that the plaza has a very affordable late-night museum that gives you the full history of mezcal and tequila, along with shots of all the best MEXICAN MADE alcoholic beverages...how cool is that??
Full disclosure: we really didn't know much at all about mariachi before staying on Plaza Garibaldi...only that we loved the sound of it and it is inherently Mexican, that's it. I think most of us gringos in the US are well aware of Mariachi but many of us really are clueless about what it really is and the background of it. We certainly didn't. We got an education on the history and styles of mariachi and wanted to share a bit of our experience with you guys. Staying on the plaza was an amazing and eye-opening cultural experience for us and we had the time of our lives. We can't recommend this place enough.
Hope you enjoy the video! For all of you who have been traveling with us for awhile now, thank you so much for your support! If you're new here, consider subscribing. It's free and easy and keeps us going. We have a lot more stories to tell. :)
Also, we love to see your comments! Truth is, we learn a lot from everyone's comments and actually use that to help us explore more unique places, learn more about where we visit, and then add that in to the videos for everyone else to learn as well. Plus, it's just enjoyable to read what everyone has to say. Hope everyone's 2022 is going great so far.
Safe and happy trails amigos! We don’t currently have a Patreon but if you enjoyed our content and would like to buy us a cup of coffee, here’s a link to our PayPal tip jar!

Some of Mexico City's Weird, Obscure but Interesting Museums
#mexicotravel #livinginmexico #mexico
Hey Guys! This is a new video in my sub-series: Did you know?
If you’re a person living in Mexico or planning to visit or move to the city, then this is for you! As you know, when you live in or visit any country, learning a bit about the country's history, culture and customs enriches YOUR OWN experience!
****
This video we learn about some of the weird, obscure and, at times, bizarre museums you can find in Mexico City that are worth visiting. The challenge for non-Spanish speakers is that these museums are either not fully curated (i.e. you don't have plaques/cards explaining the genesis of the museum, what the objects mean, where they were located, etc.) or, if they are curated, sometimes the information is only in Spanish. This will help!
I LOVE quirk and weird so am naturally drawn to things that are different. If that's you, then you'll like this video and you'll likely want to visit these cool off-beat museums. This video will serve as a primer in case information isn't available in English and you don't speak Spanish. This way, you'll know what you're visiting and have a little background.
Enjoy!
****
Hope you like the video and content. If you do, please give it a thumbs up and leave a comment.

Jemez Springs, New Mexico Where to Stay and What to Do
Jemez Springs New Mexico, Where to Stay & What to Do
In this video we come back to Jemez Springs, New Mexico, one of my favorite mountain towns! We are staying in the most beautiful AirBnB properties, known as Mystical Mesa on Instagram
If you are interested in staying at this property (I highly recommend) it can be booked here: The is one of the most beautiful airbnb's I have ever stayed at!
Jemez Springs is a small village in the Santa Fe National Forest located just over 1 hour NW from Albuquerque in Central New Mexico. This is a popular destination to enjoy the outdoors with it's stunning natural beauty!
The AirBnb has three beautiful bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining area, sunroom, and laundry room. The wrap around deck offers the most stunning views of the red mountain cliffs and vibrant blue skies.
While staying in the village of Jemez Springs we visited the Jemez Springs Bath House and the Jemez State Monument (one of the NM Historic Sites) as well as the Los Ojos Saloon and the Highway 4 Bakery. We drive through the Jemez to the Valles Caldera to visit the historic cabin district and we stop at the famous Jemez Mountains Soda Dam.
The Jemez Springs Bath House is a historical property as this was the one of the first structures built in the area and was originally operated by the Otero and Perea families. This is the place you can visit to soak in the healing mineral water in a private bath. The water that feeds the bath house is from the original spring that erupted like a geyser in the 1860's and surprised the local residents. The bath house was the first effort to take commercial advantage of the hot springs. This bath house is located in the village center and is operated by the village as a non-profit. For more information see:
The Jemez State Monument is one of New Mexico's 8 historic sites. This site includes the remnants of a 700 year old village of the Guisewa people and the San José de los Jemez church dating to 1621/2. The Spanish established a Catholic mission at the village. The structures are incredibly well preserved.
We ate delicious food at two local restaurants: The Los Ojos Saloon and the Highway 4 cafe and bakery
We stopped at the popular soda dam, just off highway 4 on our way to the Valles Caldera.
The Valles Caldera National Preserve is now ran by the National Park Service and is open to the public. This is a 13 mile volcanic crater that attracts wildlife and is beautiful for nature lovers! If you stop at the visitor center, you can retrieve a permit to access the historic cabin district. This district reflects the ownership and land use history of four principal landowning families from 1860-2000. For more information on the Valles Caldera National Preserve see
The Jemez Mountains is home to approximately 2500 elk! If you are lucky, you will see them at the Valles Caldera National Preserve.
