Merida Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Mérida – Welcome to the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan. While much of the peninsula is famed for its resorts, Mérida is the epicentre of Yucatan culture, history and pride.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Mérida:
The peaceful paradise, #Mérida, features a blend of colonial houses and Mayan ruins between which the city shares its heritage. Begin your #vacation at Plaza Grande and #explore the surrounding pastel streets filled with architectural treasures and cool parks.
Mérida’s many museums cover everything from Yucatan song to the folk arts of Mexico. The Museum of The City of Mérida charts the rich and sometimes turbulent history of Yucatan’s capital. #Visit the Yucatan’s Anthropology and History Museum and nearby, the Great Museum of the Mayan World which creates a striking contrast to Mérida’s historic streetscapes.
Mérida is surrounded by ancient Mayan cities such as Dzibilchaltun, Mayapan, Uxmal, and Chichén Itza. The Yucatan Peninsula has an incredible network of over 6000 cenotes. Some, such as the Sacred Cenote of Chichén Itza, were considered portals to the afterlife.
Mérida is undoubtedly one of the coolest and most cultural cities in Mexico.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Oaxaca City vs. Merida, Yucatan (Which is the better choice to live or travel?) Mexico Vlog
So many places, so little time! We hear a lot of hype about Oaxaca and after spending 1.5 months in Merida, we had to get over here to explore the city that was called 'the best in the world' by Travel & Leisure voters in 2020.
We get a lot of questions and see a lot of comments about both of these amazing cities in Mexico, so we decided to break down our favorite things about each place, as well as our least favorite. We compared them in several different categories that we think are pretty important. Ultimately, in our opinion there some of the world's best cities in one of the world's best countries!
You can't go wrong either way, but hopefully, this will help you make a decision if you're limited on travel time or can only try one for now. We're sure it won't be an easy decision!
If you enjoy the video, please consider subscribing! We'd love to hear your thoughts. What's your pick between these two cities? Where else in Mexico would you like to visit or have you visited and loved? :) Let's keep the conversation going, amigos!
What's next!?
We're towards the end of spending 3 weeks in the lovely city of Oaxaca, the rest of our month in Oaxaca will be spent on the coast so stay tuned for that. Before coming to Oaxaca, we spent 3 weeks exploring Chiapas.Palenque, San Cristobal de las Casas, and more! Lots more content to come from there as well. In the near future, we're heading to Mexico City to begin exploring Central Mexico! We're beyond excited because we've heard some amazing things. Stay safe, happy travels and we hope to see you on the road!

Discover 6 incredible cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula (near Merida). We share all the names so you can visit them too!
The town of Homun is known as 'The Ring of Cenotes'. We honestly had no idea this place existed until we heard of it from our walking tour guide in Merida, and when he described it, we knew we had to visit! I mean, there are over 300 cenotes in Homun. That's crazy!
We didn't experience any crowds at any of these cenotes and ended up having the best day ever, thanks to our local guide Carlos, who is from Homun and very proud of his Mayan heritage. He shared a lot of interesting information with us and we learned so much from him that day. We would do it ALL OVER AGAIN!

Merida, Mexico Vlog & Full City Tour!
Merida is a vibrant colonial city located in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. We spent 2 weeks discovering and exploring what quickly became one of our favorite cities! It's fun and big enough that offers all of the big cities perks, while still conserving true local vibes. We enjoyed Merida very much!
