Preston Castle, Ione, California.

The Preston School of Industry, Ione California, also known as Preston Castle, was one of the oldest and best-known reform schools in the United States. After construction was finished in 1890, the institution was opened in June 1894 when seven wards (minors under the guardianship of the state, but not necessarily juvenile offenders), were transferred there from San Quentin State Prison.

California Gold Country - Part 2/4 (AMADOR CITY TO IONE)

Brian is closer to home than ever before, as he embarks on a spur of the moment road trip through one of the most historically and culturally significant regions in California. It doesn't take long for him to discover, there is much more to this fascinating region, the its claim to fame.

Brian's journey continues south to Amador County. After passing through California's smallest incorporated city, he stops to explore the traditional Gold Rush town of Sutter Creek, before continuing to the historic city of Jackson, home to the oldest Serbian community in California. Next, he visits the Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park, for a glimpse of indegenous history and local wildlife, before ending his day in Ione, outside the mysterious Preston Castle.

Charming Ione and Metaline Falls, Washington

In the far reaches of NE Washington you will find the historic mining towns of Ione and Metaline Falls. These towns were founded around 1910 to house miners who worked in the Mammoth and Morning lead-zink mines.

Limestone mining for cement manufacturing was also a major employer. The cement companies closed in 1990 after 80 years of operation. Cement silos still dominate the Metaline Falls skyline.

Metaline Falls, definitely off the beaten path, has been named one of the 100 Best Small Arts Towns in America. It also was the site for filming The Postman (1997) starring Kevin Costner, Will Patton and Larenz Tate.

This sequence of videos and stills were captured with a Canon Vixia HFS-100 camera and edited with Microsoft Movie Maker and Adobe Premier CS6.

Adventures in California’s Tri-Valley

In the spirit of adventure, Joseph sets out on a California exploration through the state’s Tri-Valley region. In his visit to the Amador, Livermore and San Ramon valleys he learns that while searching the world over for the exotic, often we miss the exciting, surprising and pleasurable experiences that await close to home. In the Tri-Valley cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, San Ramon and Dublin and the town of Danville, Joseph discovers a slew of little-known attractions that include a thriving wine region, historic towns, a diverse culinary scene and art, music and cultural festivals. And what is most impressive, is that although just 33 miles from San Francisco, California’s Tr-Valley region continues to honor its historic roots, which date back centuries, while it enthusiastically celebrates its new communities. By the end of his visit Joseph has a better understanding of the Tri-Valley motto, “Tri It,You¹ll Love it!”

An Abandoned & Haunted Reform School Exploration l Preston Castle in Ione, CA

Join me for a venture around one of the countries' OLDEST reform schools that still stands to this day in Ione, California. The Preston School of Industry broke ground in 1894 and successfully operated for decades in the 1900's.

The property has unfortunately seen it's fair share of bleak urban legends and death. Natural cause death, disease and murder have all plagued these grounds hence why it's allegedly very haunted. There is a cemetery in the distance of this property where all of these individuals are buried.

The Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters crews have both investigated the reform school and provided results of various forms of paranormal activity. Numerous shows and movies have been filmed here as well. None of them are notable and apparently are terrible though. HOLLYWOOD, YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO FILM A MODERNIZED HORROR FILM AT THIS LOCATION! See for yourself!

In this video we explore the overflow housing area that is quite untouched and has not been explored by many parties.

The Preston School of Industry offers overnight paranormal investigative tours to fund the preservation of the castle. Next episode will definitely need to be participating in this exact event.

Gold Country Visitors Introduction

Sutter Creek California | Staying at these Inn's and drinking champagne

When visiting Sutter Creek, California, may we suggest a few Inn's that we recently tried out? Sutter Creek has a few Inns and hotels to choose from in this small, foothill town located in the Sierra foothills, or Gold Country.

Sutter Creek is known for its abundance of wineries and tasting rooms spread out all through Amador County. Sutter Creek is only about an hours drive from Sacramento, and it is quite the beautiful drive!

In this video, we highlight our two stays and we learn of a champagne and sparkling wine bar! Patti's favorite! 🍾😍
