Isabela Tourist Spots

Cathedral of Saint Michael the Archangel

The Cathedral of Saint Michael the Archangel, previously known as Saint Ferdinand Cathedral is a cathedral situated in the town of Gamu, province of Isabela.

In earlier times, the episcopal seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ilagan was located in San Fernando Church and transferred to a new church in the town of Gamu in 2003. In 2013, Pope Francis ordained that the Cathedral be dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel although the diocese remains under the patronage of Saint Ferdinand of Castile.

Queen Isabela Park

It is a monument designed by Joel Paragas, a UNESCO artist and park consultant, standing 17-feet sculpture of Queen Isabella II of Spain located nearby Isabela Provincial Capitol in Barangay Alibagu along the National Highway. This monument is surrounded by sculptures of the erstwhile leaders and heroes who served and fought for the province.

Moreover, there is a massive open air amphitheatre, which can accommodate over 10,000 people. A beautiful venue for huge and special events.

Giant Butaka

Ilagan City, dubbed as the furniture capital of the province, hosts the world’s biggest Butaka measuring a height of 11.4 feet; length of 20.8 feet; width of 9.7 feet and weighing at least 1,000 kilograms. The giant armchair usually made from the durable narra wood (1,184.48 bd ft) with backrest made from woven rattan (1,740 ft) crafted by 50 skilled furniture makers from Alinguigan in just 29 days. It symbolizes the “ipabalem” or feel at home hospitality of Ilagueños and reminds us of the greatness we can achieve by working together. This was unveiled in May 2003, locals and officials hope that the giant butaka would make it to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Bonifacio Freedom Park

This monument is a loving tribute to the founder and leader of the Katipunan, Gat Andres de Castro Bonifacio, a great and noble man, we commemorate his admirable sacrifices in pursuing the cause of our freedom. Our emotions are stirred to harmonize with those of courageous men and women who fought and died with him. Their heroism remains indelibly written in our hearts and is, truly, an honor to be hold.

Meraki Garden

One of the beautiful Flower Gardens in Region 2, Meraki Garden is situated at Nappacu Pequeño, Reina Mercedes, Isabela. Surrounded by stunning bougainvillea, also known as paper flowers that carry the symbolic meaning of passion and beauty. These thorny evergreen vine's “blooms” — actually brightly colored bracts — grow in stunning shades of red, pink, white, purple and orange.

ILAGAN SANCTUARY! (Isabela, Cagayan Valley) | Irene Cris

Ilagan Sanctuary is the most visited tourist spot in Ilagan City today. It is a protected area located in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range in Brgy. Santa Victoria, Ilagan City, Isabela.

Source:

How to get to Isabela:
If you don’t feel like driving 380 kilometers to Isabela, you can take a ten (10) to eleven (11) hour provincial bus ride from Kamias, Quezon City straight to Cauayan, Isabela for just P650.00 per person. You can easily book your ride as this is available in huge bus companies such as Victory Liner, Five Star Bus, and Florida Transport. Check bus rates here.

But if you want to immediately get there to start your adventure, you can book a flight to Cauayan, Isabela with an approximate travel time of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

How to get to Ilagan Sanctuary:
The terminal to Ilagan Sanctuary is located along the National Highway at Brgy. San Andres, 6 km north of the city of Ilagan. One can ride a northbound bus, van or jeepney and alight at the junction, where tricycles (PHP 150 roundtrip, with waiting time) can be hired to take you to Ilagan Sanctuary (entrance fee: PHP 50, inclusive of use of the swimming pools) in Brgy. Santa Victoria.

If you have a car, use Google Maps or Waze for navigation. Else, ride a tricycle and ask the driver to drop you off at Ilagan Sanctuary. #Philippines #ExplorePhilippines #TheLifeofAi

The Isabela Provincial Capitol | Ilagan City, Isabela | Philippines | We.Are.Wanderful

MAY 28, 2016—We were on the last leg of our grand Northeast Luzon Enduro Road Tour. We just crossed out the last few items on our list of places to visit in our Cagayan Road Tour and we were on our way to my hometown of Alicia in Isabela. We stopped by Ilagan City only out of curiosity when we passed by the provincial capitol. We sure are glad that we got curious.

As an Isabelino I had been to the provincial capital town of Ilagan many times in my youth but it never crossed my mind to check out the provincial capitol. I must say that from my most recent visit I was pleasantly surprised—and quite proud—of the capitol's beauty and grandeur.

The capitol building itself is nothing remarkable, which in my book is just right. But the capitol ground is something else. It's quite impressive. The artificial lagoon is huge, clean, and pleasing to the eyes. But the biggest jewel of the capitol is the Queen Isabela II Monument and Park at the very front of the capitol near the highway. By and in itself It is a sufficient enough reason to visit the capitol. A must-visit especially for Isabelinos. It encapsulates in a single yet grand and beautiful monument the history and legends of Isabela.

This is a short slideshow video presentation of our photos and video clips from our short visit at the Isabela Provincial Capitol. Enjoy watching.
