Holbrook, Arizona: Holbrook was founded in 1881 or 1882, when the railroad was built, and named to honor the first chief engineer of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad, Henry Randolph Holbrook.

On September 4, 1887, Commodore Perry Owens, the Apache County Sheriff, came to Holbrook to arrest Andy Blevins, a.k.a. Andy Cooper, for horse theft. Blevins had also recently bragged about killing two men and had killed many more, including two lawmen.
Sheriff Owens insisted on confronting the Blevins brothers alone, knowing there would likely be a shootout. He went to the Blevins' house, which still stands, knocked on the door, and when Blevins asked what he wanted, announced he'd come to arrest him. Blevins resisted arrest and a shootout occurred. Blevins, two brothers, a friend, and Blevins' horse were shot; all died, except one brother.
Owens emerged unscathed, despite being shot at from a half-dozen feet away. Owens single-handedly taking on four men made him a western legend rivaling the Earp Brothers and Texas John Slaughter as lawmen of the Old West.
The Wigwam Motels, also known as the Wigwam Villages, is a motel chain in the United States built during the 1930s and 1940s.
Arizona motel owner Chester E. Lewis built this Wigwam Village in 1950. It is located on the historic Route 66, at 811 West Hopi Drive in Holbrook, Arizona. Nearby places of interest include Petrified Forest National Park, Meteor Crater (Barringer Crater), and the Grand Canyon.

Follow me today as I checkout the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook Arizona. It was built in 1950 located on Route 66 in Holbrook Arizona. It kinda reminds me of the Cozy Cone motel in cars. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 2002. Unfortunately I didn’t stay here so there is no room tour. The Wigwam Motels, also known as the Wigwam Villages, is a motel chain in the United States built during the 1930s and 1940s. The rooms are built in the form of tipis, mistakenly referred to as wigwams. It originally had seven different locations: two locations in Kentucky and one each in Alabama, Florida, Arizona, Louisiana, and California.
This particular wigwam village in Holbrook, Arizona is one of two surviving motels that are located on historic U.S. Route 66, The other is located on the city boundary between Rialto and San Bernardino, California. In all, there are three surviving motels and all are listed on the National Register of Historic Places: the Wigwam Motel in Cave City, KY was listed in 1988 under the official designation of Wigwam Village #2; the Wigwam Motel in AZ was listed as Wigwam Village #6 in 2002; and the Wigwam Motel in CAwas listed in 2012 as Wigwam Village #7.

A tour of the eccentric and historic Route 66 town of Holbrook, Arizona. Includes stops at the Cowboy Bucking on Petrified Wood tableau, various petrified wood shops with dinosaurs such as Rocks on Route 66 and the iconic Rainbow Rock Shop. Back to the Wild West days, I stopped at the deadly, abandoned Bucket of Blood Saloon and the Blevins House. Other Route 66-era sites include the Wigwam Motel, and the World's Longest Map of Route 66 at the awesome Butterfield Stage Co. Steak House.

AB Roadrunners, RV Living, 8/2021; Holbrook started out as a town of railroaders, cattlemen and outlaws which changed over time. Little Colorado River is at south end of town by the old train station. Atlantic Pacific Train Station built in 1882. There's a lot of history to see here about the Wild West, Indians, Outlaws and more. Dinos of Holbrook and Rainbow Rock Shop You pass the Pow Wow trading post, Navajo County Courthouse which is now housed by the Historical Society. There's places to shop, eat, small park, gas, banks and so much more. We know we missed some but you can check it out. North of Interstate 40 to Maverick gas station to dump our tanks, get water, gas, and food. They don't have propane. Can Get Propane Speedway west of center of town.
