The majority of Hot Springs' sights can be seen within Hot Springs National Park. The park's historic buildings, such as the Fordyce Bathhouse Visitor Center and the Buckstaff Bathhouse, may be found along Bathhouse Row. Spend some time trekking the park's wide trails between soaking sessions, or check out neighboring Lake Catherine State Park. Lake Ouachita, the largest lake in the national forest, is a popular spot for water sports, but there are plenty of other opportunities for outdoor fun in the Ouachita National Forest as well.

One of the best things about Hot Springs, Arkansas, is getting immersed in beauty at Garvan Woodland Gardens. There is an incredible variety of both natural and man-made features to enjoy at the Garvan Woodland Gardens. It may come as a surprise, but the garden's flowers are not its primary draw. The intricate latticework of wood and glass that can be found throughout the Anthony Chapel Complex is one of the reasons that it is so popular among architecture fans.

Also on the list of the best things to do in Hot Springs, Arkansas, is visiting the Gangster Museum of America. The Gangster Museum of America is a historically accurate and amusing look at how some of the most notorious gangsters in America coexisted with the kind residents of this small valley community in the hills of central Arkansas. In this episode we are doing something that few have had the opportunity to do since 9/11. We are getting a full tour of Greers Ferry Dam in Heber Springs, Arkansas from the United States Army Corps of engineers.

The Greers Ferry dam was completed in December of 1962 and was dedicated by President John F Kennedy.

It was one of JFK's last official events before his assassination just a few weeks later.

The Greers Ferry Dam created the massive reservoir named Greers Ferry Lake.

The reservoir consists of two lakes connected by a water-filled gorge called the Narrows (over by Lacey’s Marina). The combination of the two lakes and the Narrows is Greers Ferry Lake and totals about 40,500 acres.

This tour will take us deep inside Greers Ferry Dam where we can feel the chill of the deep waters on the other side of the dam walls.

Led by Jay Townsend, Chief Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District, we will also witness where generation begins, how it fills the Little Red River and how it affects our country.

Facts about Greers Ferry Dam and Greers Ferry Lake per USACE:

Heber Springs Arkansas camping, Sugar Loaf Mountain Island hike, Old Highway 25 campground

We spent the weekend camping at Old Highway 25 campground in Heber Springs, AR. It is a seriously under rated campground with gorgeous views of Greer's Ferry Lake. While we were there we hiked up Sugar Loaf Mountain Island which was voted Arkansas's BEST view in 2018 and explored the Collins Creek trailhead. Leave us a comment and let us know where we should go next!
