Hastings is an attractive seaside resort popular for its sporting and cultural events, as well as for its association with the famous Battle of Hastings of 1066 (an event that in fact took place at Battle, six miles away). Although its importance as one of the Cinque Ports ended due to a series of destructive floods and repeated attacks by the French at the end of the 14th century, the town experienced another heyday in the 19th century when it became a seaside resort, taking Brighton as its model.

10 Best Seaside Towns in the UK

What are the best seaside towns in the United Kingdom? New towns are developing at the seaside across the UK in addition to those ancient towns and cities. All of these towns and cities are worming their way into the hearts of tourists from home and abroad. With due respect to these towns, and out of a deep sense of duty, we want to identify which of these towns are the best so that we can help the decision-making process for those having reasons to consider seaside towns. On the basis of that, we present to you the 10 best seaside towns in the UK.
Please note that most of these best towns in the UK have at one time or the other been the best in England.
10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. Up till now, families have continued to enjoy its calm shallow beach. This seaside is also one of the 10 best seaside resorts in the UK.
With its panoramic views, the seaside resort offers relaxing luxurious holidays in self-catering accommodation in caravans and luxury hot tub lodges. If you want to own a holiday home, they’re available here with unrivaled views across the bay. The town is about one kilometer from the leisurely beautiful Swanage Railway. Its proximity to this and other parks, beaches, and castles makes it a good choice.
9. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Stepping out of England, we find a small city and community in Pembrokeshire known as St Davids. It is the smallest location in the whole of the United Kingdom with city status. With its stunning coastal scenery unmatched in Pembrokeshire, it’s also the smallest urban area by local authority boundary.
One of the reasons for its inclusion on this list is its ability to blend its sacred status with its National Park. St Davids has a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere as you see surf shops, outdoor adventure centers, holiday cottages, and hotels in the shadow of its cathedral.
8. Southwold, England
When this town was found in the ninth position on the list of the most popular seaside destinations, we knew that it would be among the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Now, it is the number 8 on this list. All year round, Southwold remains a tourist attraction, thanks to its dramatic coastline and beautiful architecture. Its cozy pub lunches and walks along its beach are charming.
As you walk along its pier, you will see spectacular views as you check in and out of many independent shops. You would love the charming seaside resort of Southwold. Though it’s almost an island, its sandy beach and hut-lined promenade offer a wonderful environment for holidaymakers and weekenders.
7. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Ironically to some, Filey which is a town in the Borough of Scarborough considered unpopular by some people is one of the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

Top 10 PRETTIEST Towns in EAST SUSSEX

What are the 10 prettiest towns in the county of East Sussex? To determine this, I visited them all. Here's what I found out.

As a disclaimer, this list is neither a social commentary, nor a guide on which are the nicest towns to live, but purely a judgement on the aesthetics of each respective town centre.

All footage is my own, and originates from my flagship channel, 4K Explorer, which you can check out here: --

Our visit to the historic coastal town of Hastings, East Sussex

Our visit to the historic coastal town of Hastings, East Sussex

See another side of Hastings with our video. - Another great day trip from London.

We start with the shale beach opposite Pelham Place and head towards the Hastings Pier, en-route we discover 'The Landing' by Leigh Dyer.

Once at Hasting historic pier we stroll around, discovering why it won the Stirling Prize in 2017, and taking the views along the Sussex coast as far as St Leonards.

A stroll back towards Hastings old town, taking in Trinity Square & The America Ground on our way to George Street. We then join the High Street before taking a slight detour along Hill Street & Croft Road, to discover the fiction home of TV detective Christopher Foyle, from 'Foyles War'.

The final stage of our day out was a wander around Rock-a-Nore and the Stade amongst the fishing boats and black huts of the fishermen.

New England is home to some of the most amazing places to visit in the country. In addition to the incredible views, amazing people and delicious food, the region is relatively small - making it the PERFECT location for a road trip. Today, we'll tell you about the top 5 New England Road Trip Destinations you won't want to miss!

Portland, ME
The most northern destination on our list, Portland clocks in at 5.5 hours from NYC. During your visit, make sure to:
-Check out the amazing lighthouses like Portland Head Lighthouse, and Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse
-Visit the waterfront parks, especially Fort Allen Park
-And eat the incredible food, including Highroller Lobster and Holy Donut

Bonus Stops: Freeport and Ogunquit, ME
Before heading south to our next stop, consider stopping by either Freeport or Ogunquit, ME. Freeport is the home of LL Bean flagship store, outlet shopping, and a bizarre desert! Ogunquit features a stunning beach perfect for relaxing and catching some rays in the summertime.

Portsmouth, NH
Settled in the 1600s, this bustling seaport town is as beautiful as it is rich in history. During your visit - make sure you don't miss out on taking a self guided tour of a retired naval submarine! For more on that, check out our previous video linked above.

Westerly, RI
Featuring both a thriving downtown and beautiful beaches - Westerly is a can't miss stop along your New England road trip. While you're there make sure to spend a day at Misquamicut State Beach for some fun in the sun, as well as visiting the Watch Hill district of Westerly.

Stonington & Mystic, CT
Best known for the village of Mystic - Stonington, CT boasts some of the most unforgettable sights along the New England coastline. Mystic is home to a one of a kind drawbridge that is terrible for traffic and amazing to see in action, leveraging two gigantic rocks as counterweights! If that wasn't enough, just off of Main St is the Mystic Seaport Museum - featuring restored and preserved historical vessels that you can even actually board - as well as a reimagined waterfront settlement to stroll. Away from the hustle and bustle of Mystic, a walk through Stonington's quiet and cute downtown leads right to the Stonington Lighthouse Museum - which was built back in 1840! Dubois Beach, and most importantly Stonington Point - a beautiful sunset spot where you can see both RI and NY while standing in CT!

Washington, CT
Last but not least, our only non-coastal recommendation is Washington, CT. This small town's charm is so overwhelming that it is actually the inspiration for the early 2000s TV, Gilmore Girls! Home to some of our favorite hiking spots, including the Thoreau Bridge at Hidden Valley Preserve - Washington, CT can't be missed for those looking to find a quiet moment in nature.

Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

If you have any further visa questions visit the official UK government website.

Hastings, NE | A 4K City Walking Tour

Hastings, NE was founded in 1872 at the intersection of the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad and the St. Joseph and Denver City Railroad. It was named for Colonel D. T. Hastings of the St. Joseph and Grand Island Railroad, who was instrumental in building the railroad through Adams County. It is known as the town where Kool-Aid was invented by Edwin Perkins in 1927, and celebrates that event with the Kool-Aid Days festival every August. Settlers first built sod houses, dugouts, and shanties, then houses and stores. The city was incorporated in April 1874, and in September 1878, after a five-year Great County Seat War, the county seat was transferred to Hastings from Juniata
