Finland or Suomi is the land of eternal sunshine in the summer, more lakes than you can imagine, and possibly the grossest candy on the planet? Finland is an amazing country to visit and whether it is the breathtaking nature, the kind yet quiet Finnish people, or the endless times you will visit the sauna there will always be things that may shock a tourist when they visit Finland.
10 Things That Shock Tourists about Visiting Finland
1. The Sauna Culture: Do expect to head into a sauna during your time in Finland. It is such a part of the culture that people have them built into their homes, and yes do expect to go naked and run out and jump into the snow for a little extra fun.
2. The Finns Can Talk While Inhaling: the Finns have so much to say when they do talk that they actually can talk while they exhale and while they inhale. Quite a sight when you see it for the first time.
3. The Natural Beauty of Finland: from the lakes and forests to the parks and islands Finland boasts a ton of nature and the locals love it. So whether it is skiing in Lapland or mushroom hunting or visiting the archipelago islands you will see so much beauty in Finland.
4. How Quiet the Finns Can Be: the Finns enjoy silence and you will see that in stores, on the street, and especially on public transportation. So do keep it down.
5. How Clean Finland Is: from pristine forests, to amazing clean and crisp air, to the locals having pride and keeping their cities and towns clean, Finns do love a clean country. Oh, and never wear your shoes in someones house.
6. Finnish Tasty Treats: Salmiakki is the child of black licorice and salt, and I mean that in the least tastiest way possible. The Finns love salmiakki candy (and Finland has a ton of great candy aside form Salmiakki). So be prepared for some great tasty treats, like their cinnamon rolls and anything made with mushrooms and do watch out for the funny ones.
7. How Difficult the Finnish Language Is: luckily for tourists most Finns speak very good English, so you do not need to speak any Finnish. The Finnish language is considered one of the most difficult languages to learn and when you see all those vowels you will understand why.
8. The Cities Have Two Names: in Finland, Finnish and Swedish are the two official languages and so all the signs on the highway are in Finnish and Swedish. This can lead to a bit of confusion when the cities don't have similar names in both languages, for example Turku is Turku in English and Finnish, but Abo in Swedish.
9. Finnish Logic: for as smart and clever as the Finns are some foreigners sometimes get lost in Finnish logic. When you see something around the country that just doesn't quite make sense, just chalk it up to Finnish logic.
10. You Have to Go to a Government Store to Buy Hard Alcohol: if you want to grab a bottle of Finlandia Vodka in Helsinki you can't just head to the local grocery store. You have to go to Alko, the government run liquor store. The prices are high and the hours are strange, but it is the only place to go.

When you visit Hanko’s spa park, you will see charming 19th century and early 20th century villas which represent decorative wooden architecture. Today they serve as guest houses and restaurants.
Do you want to enjoy sensational views over the cape of Hanko and the Baltic Sea? Then take a lift to the viewing platform of Hanko Water Tower which stands 65 meters above sea level.
Hanko is considered the Finnish Riviera and its harbor is popular among sailors and holidaymakers.
A must-visit place is Tulliniemi Beach with beautiful sand dunes. This windy beach is popular among swimmers as well as windsurfers and kite surfers.
Hanko’s main summer event is the The Hangon Regatta. This annual three-day competition is usually held in the first week of July and is one of the largest sailing events in Finland
Only 25 km south-west of Hanko you can find the Bengtskär Lighthouse completed in 1906. It is 52 meters high and is the tallest lighthouse in the Nordic countries. Climb its 252 steps if you want to enjoy incredible views of the Baltic Sea.
Hanko is a seaside town, and its restaurants offer the best seafood dishes. Taste some of them, they are delicious.

Küste Finnlands | Ausflugsziele am Meer | HANKO Finnland Sommer 2021
Meine Küstentour durch Finnland startet in Helsinki, immer an der Küste entlang und endet in der Region Pori. Auftakt meiner Küstentour ist ein Besuch in Hanko. Viele Finnen verbringen den Sommer am Meer, besonders beliebt ist Hanko. Ich mochte Hanko von dem Moment an, als ich in den Hafen einfuhr. Das erste, was mir auffiel, waren die Holzvillen. Hanko florierte in den frühen 1900er Jahren als Kurort und dies zeigt sich in der Architektur der Stadt. Hanko ist mit schönen Häusern in fröhlichen Pastelltönen übersät, und viele der älteren Gebäude der Stadt dienten einst als Badehäuser, Casinos und Tanzlokale. Eine weitere Besonderheit von Hanko ist, dass es an der südlichsten Spitze Finnlands liegt – weiter südlich geht es nicht, ohne die Zehen in die Ostsee zu tauchen. Diese erstklassige Lage macht es zur Heimat wunderschöner Küstenlinien, darunter 30 Kilometer Sandstrände.
Die Strände sind wirklich wunderschön und das Beste: das Wasser ist einfach glasklar. Irgendwann sah es so aus, als wäre ich in einem südlichen Paradies. Ganz in der Nähe der Strandpromenade waren schöne Häuser und kleine Gassen mit sympathischen kleinen Boutiquen. Ich machte einen Spaziergang zum Hafen, dort bin ich herumgelaufen und habe Eis gegessen. Ja, ich hatte eine absolut tolle Sommerreise und das hat mich daran erinnert, dass ich noch viel mehr so einfache Inlandsreisen unternehmen sollte. Hier sind die Videos & Fotos von dort! Viel Spass!

rannikolla. Kaupungin sijainti on hyvin merellinen Hankoniemen kärjessä, kolmelta suunnalta meren ympäröimänä. Ominaista Hangolle ovat merenrannat ja eritoten hiekkarannat, joita kaupungissa on yli 30 kilometriä. Kaupunki on kaksikielinen. 52,4 prosentilla asukkaista on äidinkielenä suomi ja 42,3 prosentilla ruotsi.
☀️ Hanko sijaitsee lounaisella Uudellamaalla, 127 kilometriä Helsingistä länteen ja 145 kilometriä Turusta kaakkoon. Lähin naapurikaupunki on Raasepori 35 kilometriä koilliseen. Kaupungin naapurikunnat ovat Kemiönsaari ja Raasepori. Hanko on Manner-Suomen eteläisin kunta. Etäisyys Viron luoteiselle rannikolle on noin 70 kilometriä.
Meri ympäröi Hankoa kolmelta puolelta, joten maarajaa on vain Raaseporin kaupunkiin muutama kilometri. Pääosa Hangon maa-alueesta koostuu Hankoniemen lounaisimmasta osasta. Hankoniemi puolestaan on viime jääkauden loppuvaiheessa syntyneen, moreenista, hiekasta, sorasta ja kallioista muodostuvan ensimmäisen Salpausselän lounaisin osa.
☀️ Niemen rannalla on lukuisia kilometrejä hiekkarantaa sekä myös dyynejä. Hankoniemen lisäksi Hankoon kuuluu lukuisia saaria, joista suurimmat ovat Russarö, Bengtsår, Byön ja Kadermo. Kaupungin merialueella on myös paljon karuja kallioluotoja. Hangon alueella on muutamia pieniä järviä ja lampia, kuten Sandöträsket, Skogbyträsket ja Österfjärden. Russarön saarella on myös useita lampia, kuten Lemmenlampi. Hangossa on myös lukuisia hiidenkirnuja, muun muassa keskustan tuntumassa Puistovuoressa sekä Täktomin kylässä keskustasta noin seitsemän kilometriä itään.
☀️ Sijaintinsa ansiosta Hangon ilmasto on lauha ja merellinen, ja lämpötilavaihtelut ovat suomalaisittain pieniä. Vuotuinen keskilämpötila oli 6,5 °C kaudella 1991–2020.
Hanko on kasvi- ja eläinlajistoltaan muuhun Suomeen verrattuna poikkeuksellisen monimuotoinen, ja Hangossa tavataan myös monia uhanalaisia lajeja. Monimuotoisuuteen vaikuttavat leuto ilmasto, maaperän kalkkipitoisuus ja laivojen painolastin mukana tulleet erikoiset kasvilajit. Hankoniemelle saapuvat kevään ensimmäiset muuttolinnut, ja niemellä havaitaan vuosittain noin 270 lintulajia.
