S1•E9: My Favorite Spots to Photograph the Sydney Opera House | A Classroom with a View

I just couldn't get enough of the Sydney Opera House! And finally, I took the Manly Ferry from Circular Quay to Manly Beach. I hadn't gone to that many Sydney beaches, but Manly Beach was so nice that I had to return and spend a few proper hours there. Plus, on the way back, I get a front-row seat (literally) to the Sydney Opera House passing by me up close! Then I had some Kinder Bueno gelato from Anita La Mamma Del Gelato.

After another visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens to take some photos and to contemplate on my upcoming travels, and to realize it's gotten way too hot, I went back to Circular Quay to discover that there were no cruise ships in dock! That means there is a direct view of the Sydney Opera House from the Overseas Passenger Terminal platform.

That evening, I had a ramen for dinner in Paddy's Market, went to my fourth rock climb session in St. Peters, and had a Taiwanese dessert in Chinatown.

Here are my best spots for taking photos of the Sydney Opera House:
• Overseas Passenger Terminal observation deck*
• Hickson Road Reserve near the foot of the Harbour Bridge
• Mrs. Macquaries Point.
• On the ferry to/from Circular Quay, particularly on routes that include stops on east of Circular Quay, like Manly.
• Harbour Bridge Pylon Lookout (See episode 10)

* For the Overseas Passenger Terminal, check the cruise timetables so you know on which days the dock is free during the day. The Port Authority of New South Wales website should have the latest dates and times.

Q: How to get to Manly Beach?
A: Both times I went, I took the Manly Ferry from Circular Quay. It usually takes 20-30 minutes, and the ride is pleasant. There may also be other services that are faster but more expensive. Once you get to Manly Wharf, you'll need to walk through the shopping area to get to the actual beach on the other side. It's at least a half-day activity.

Great North Walk - 2-day hike - Wondabyne to Somersby - Part 1 - (Wondabyne Station to Mooney Mooney)

Starting where I finished the last hike at Wondabyne Station, this walk climbs the steep hill behind the old quarry then follows the fire trail beside banksias, boronias, wattles and majestic eucalypts to meet the Great North Walk junction. Then up onto a rock platform with magnificent views down to Mooney Mooney creek. The walk follows the fire trail, turning off to the left before the rifle range. Then up to Scopas Peak and down to the rock platform between the two peaks. Heading down to the Phil Houghton Bridge over Piles Creek. The walk then follows the creek out to Mooney Mooney Creek and crosses at the old Pacific Highway bridge. Continuing along the creek, the walk goes under the large motorway Mooney Mooney bridge before passing the sunny, south campsite and concluding day one at the north campsite amongst towering eucalypts.

Gunnamatta Bay on a Friday Afternoon

Here's Gunnamatta Bay filmed on Friday afternoon from the Cronulla Sailing Club near the Cronulla Boat ramp. A great view of the Gunnamatta swimming baths, a couple of boats sailing, great water views of the bay.
Gunnamatta Bay is a small bay in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Gunnamatta Bay is located off the Port Hacking estuary, in the Sutherland Shire. The foreshore is a natural boundary for the suburbs of Cronulla to the east, Woolooware to the north and Burraneer to the west.

Lilli Pilli Baths Dive Site

Lilli Pilli is protected against most conditions and very rarely becomes rough, making it the perfect calm spot for both scuba divers and free divers.
There are moorings to dive under and the netted swimming area provides a home for endangered seahorses. Schools of fish can be found swimming around the nets. Visibility is best during slack high tide.

Gunnamatta Bay in Summer - Jan 2021

I had a great day at Gunnamatta Park in Gunnamatta Bay (in Cronulla) recently. Water was great to have a swim, plenty of open space in the park, excellent place for kids & families in summer ! Great way to spend a day, or a few hours !
