I consider Gwangju as my Korean hometown. It’s the first city where I spent most of the hot, humid summer of 2018 wandering and exploring when I first moved to South Korea.
Gwangju is the city where I bought my bicycle, my first hiking experience in Korea, where I partied with friends on the weekends, where I saw BTS, and it’s the first place where I started learning about Korea’s modern history.

Gwangju (Things to do - Places to Visit) - GWANGJU Top Tourist Places - City in South Korea
Gwangju is a city in the southwest corner of South Korea. It’s known for a pro-democracy uprising in 1980. The event is commemorated by the 5·18 Memorial Park, with tree-lined paths and dramatic bronze sculptures, and the 5·18 National Cemetery.
East, the craggy Mudeungsan Mountain National Park has striking rock formations. In the foothills, the rebuilt 6th-century Jeungsimsa Temple has a Silla-era stone pagoda.

Why I love hiking in Korea: Mudeungsan National Park in Gwangju (무등산 광주 여행)(무등산국립공원)
One of South Korea's most beloved activities is hiking. We hiked Mudeungsan National Park (무등산국립공원) in Gwangju. Mudeungsan is one of the 17 (or is it 22?) National Parks in South Korea with its highest peak at 1,137m. It is located about 30 minutes from the Gwangju U Square Bus Terminal; you can also take the Gwangju 02 bus.
