ℹ️ About the Episode:
When it comes to planning a big trip, it's only natural to have all the details mapped out. For the first week of our big Italian Empty Nesting trip, we had each night planned months in advance. After all, we're noobs when it comes to travel abroad! So when our bed & breakfast canceled the pre-paid reservation we'd made in January the night before... we couldn't believe it.
As disappointed as we were, we knew Europe would be no different than any of our RV trips in the States. We knew in our gut that what we'd come up with instead would be equal to or better than our original plans—and we were right! This abrupt change of plans gave us the confidence to wing it. Not having expectations can often lead to being pleasantly surprised at the smallest outcomes rather than saying, “Hmm… I thought it would be more/less ________ ” (fill in the blank). We found a charming town we’d heard of while planning but had decided to skip. As it turned out, Alberobello, Italy, is exactly what we needed: a charming small town that wasn’t crawling with tourists, plus good food and a laid-back local vibe. We extended our stay to three nights and used our time to adjust to the time zone and enjoy each other’s company in this quiet town. Assisi, Italy, was also on our list of places to visit, but we would have only visited for a day trip. Now that we weren't locked into our original plans, we could spend the night. Experiencing the town after all the tourists left was much like Mackinac Island—quiet and peaceful. We were also able to make dinner reservations at Le Terrazze di Properzio—a beautiful restaurant overlooking the town—and enjoy a magnificent sunset.

Exploring Italy by Renting a Car: A Beginner's Guide

L’area fa parte del Parco Regionale dei Castelli Romani che racchiude il territorio collinare immediatamente a Sud di Roma (antico Vulcano dei Colli Albani) caratterizzato da laghi vulcanici, boschi di castagno e vigneti, secolare meta delle scampagnate dei cittadini della Capitale. In epoca romana i patrizi dell’Urbe, facevano a gara per costruire qui sontuose ville, in cui abbinavano occasioni di ozio con più produttivi impegni di tempo dedicati ad un’avanzato livello di produzioni agricole
Il Monastero Esarchico di Santa Maria di Grottaferrata, detto anche Abbazia Greca di San Nilo, è stato fondato nel 1004 da un gruppo di monaci greci provenienti dall'Italia meridionale, all'epoca bizantina, guidati da S. Nilo di Rossano, capo carismatico e personalità spirituale di primo piano del suo tempo.
