8 Reasons Why Americans LEAVE Costa Rica [Why I Left]
The TRUTH about living in Costa Rica: Why do so many Americans leave Costa Rica after moving there? In this video, I explain what causes expats to change their minds about retiring abroad and why I left Costa Rica after 8 years. Some of the initial reasons that people want to move to Costa Rica include the moderate climate, laid back lifestyle, fresh and healthy food, friendly people, beaches, medical tourism, and the low cost of living. But is Costa Rica really a safe and friendly country or is it actually dangerous and expensive? Once they arrive, many people realize that living in Costa Rica wasn't quite what they expected. Unfortunately, that results in people returning home quite soon after arriving.
After helping more than 500 foreigners move to Costa Rica and living there for eight years, this video explains the top reasons why people move back to the USA and why I left, too, so that you know more about what to expect BEFORE you get there. This is the real and sometimes dark truth about living in Costa Rica. What do you think are the biggest pros and cons of living in Costa Rica? Let us know in the comments.

Costa Rica: Golfito, Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge
Travel to Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge in the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica.
Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge is located in La Osa Peninsula in the southern corner of Costa Rica close to the border of Panama.
To get to the lodge you have to leave the mainland behind and venture out on the open waters to the secluded hotel.
What awaits is miles and miles of untouched rainforest and beaches.
Here, the rainforest greets you at the water's edge.
The long pier to the hotel welcomes the traveler being the only access point to this eco friendly rainforest lodge.
One does not feel overwhelmed by tourists here. Only a hand full of cabins are available at one given time, allowing the traveler to reconnect with the beauty of the land and ocean.
The cabins are personalized with names instead of numbers.
Built for the entire family or private couples, these cabins are secluded within the rainforest. Here, the objective is to reconnect with nature. Screened windows and ceiling fans keep the couples cool throughout the journey.
Rinse off in the open aired showers. Its like showering underneath your own little waterfall amongst the canopy and trees.
Leave the world behind. Curl up with a good book in one of the abundant hammocks located at the lodge. Reconnect with one another by means of entertainment from the past.
Enjoy a meal together with no distractions.
Playa Nicuesa is nestled within the 165 acre preserve. Here you travel at your own pace.
A popular tour offered by the hotel, takes you on a journey through the sea where hundreds of dolphins swim about the boat, as if we were one of them.
Glistening from the water and sun, watching them dance and glide in the ocean is a thing of beauty.
Kayak through the estuary, where salt and fresh waters meet, allowing for ideal conditions for mangroves to blossom.
60 percent of the human population live long estuaries and the coast, but here, one will only find beautiful blue waters, unaffected jungle and a various range of exotic and colorful wildlife.
Scarlet Macaws, caiman crocodiles and different species of boa constrictors are rich and plentiful throughout the region allowing travelers to get a glimpse of nature that is just not possible in other places.
River inlets provide kayakers to experience Jurassic Park like surroundings of the rainforest. Ferns demand attention here as they dominate the the edge of the river.
After a day of adventure on the waters at the Osa Peninsula, relax within the seclusion of the beaches and rainforest.
This rainforest lodge is known for its small carbon footprint and eco friendly attempts to sustain a 5 star quality lodge, while operating off the grid of fossil fuels.
The botanical gardens allow the lodge to live off the land. Offering fresh tropical fruits, along with vegetables and fresh caught fish.
The food here is exquisite. The botanical gardens offers fresh squeezed juices, organic foods and homemade salsa, you will enjoy a taste of Costa Rica that only encompasses this peninsula.
The electricity that is used runs off of biodiesel fuel that is brought in from the mainland.
In your spare time explore the various beaches, coves and caves that are dotted along the coastline.
Fish right off the pier. Fish fries are common here and the staff is always eager to help.
Or wind down with your own personal yoga instructor right by the ocean.
The rolling of the clouds within the trees, the sound of the rocks rasping within the waves at the beaches edge and the color of the vegetation from exotic green to the deep blue color of the sea, portraits a beach paradise that is exclusive only to the Osa Peninsula.
So what is Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge? It is a lodge where one can reconnect with nature, explore the pristine rainforest, catch exotic views of jungle wildlife, ride alongside pods of dolphins, relax on the cozy grounds of the hotel, explore the botanical gardens, and unwind at the beaches edge, with the knowledge of this Rainforest lodge's small carbon footprint, its efforts to live off the land while caring for the wildlife around them.
The eco friendly rainforest lodge, here at Playa Nicuesa, Costa Rica.

Isla Dulce ~ Golfito, Costa Rica
Enjoy Your Own Blue Lagoon
Beautiful 13-hectare island property, located in the Golfo Dulce of Costa Rica’s southern Pacific region. Isla Dulce is totally self-sufficient and off-the-grid, water is provided by its own well. All electricity is provided by solar. Lots of beach, complete with palm & almendra trees (food of the scarlet macaws). Monkeys, and other jungle wildlife, along with a myriad of bird species (including the scarlet macaw) frequent the area.
To state the obvious, the island is boat access only. We launch in Golfito or Zancudo to take the quick ride out to the property – or what the heck – take an hour (or more) and marvel at where you are, and/or do some fishing along the way. When you arrive and disembark to the beach, you are facing the ocean with the mass of the island behind you. The property is shaped like a large bowl that’s been cut in half. The beach is in a cove-like setting with a jutting headland on its northern point, then a crescent-shaped beach and an outcropping on the southern end.
SHIP LIFE: Exploring Smaller Costa Rica | Town of Golfito | Cruise Ship Adventures
In the last video, the Silversea Nova ship went through the Panama Canal after some cruising time down in South America.
Heading north towards USA, we stop for a day in the town of Golfito in the hot and humid country of Costa Rica.
Not the most visited stop by tourists (that's for sure),
but still the opportunity for another great adventure.
With the afternoon off from my cruise ship job, I set out to explore the area.
Join me as we wander Golfito, Costa Rica.

The Best Place to See Wildlife in Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a small country in Central America, but it is home to an incredibly diverse range of wildlife. From the rainforests to the beaches, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
In this video, we will explore some of the amazing wildlife that can be found in Costa Rica in the Miguel Antonio National Park. Manuel Antonio is often considered one of the most biodiverse parks in the world, with a population of 109 types of mammal and 184 types of bird, among other species. Visitors are also likely to spot capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, sloths, coatis, raccoons, iguanas, toucans, dolphins and, sometimes, even migrating whales. We will see bats flying through the night sky, tapirs grazing in the forest, two types of sloths hanging from trees, Capuchin monkeys swinging through the branches, howler monkeys making their loud calls, lizards sunning themselves on rocks, and frogs croaking in the wetlands.
All of these animals can be found in the Miguel Antonio National Park. This park is home to over 500 species of birds, 100 species of mammals, and 120 species of reptiles and amphibians. It is a truly special place, and its wildlife is one of the main reasons why.
If you are looking for an unforgettable wildlife experience, then Costa Rica is the place for you. The La Selva Biological Reserve is a great place to start your exploration.
Here are some of the specific animals that you can see in the Miguel Antonio Biological Reserve:
Bats: There are over 100 species of bats in Costa Rica, including fruit bats, nectar bats, and insectivorous bats. Bats play an important role in the ecosystem by pollinating plants and eating insects.
Tapirs: Tapirs are large, herbivorous mammals that are related to horses. They are the largest land mammals in Costa Rica. Tapirs are shy and elusive animals, but they can be seen in the rainforests and wetlands of Costa Rica.
Sloths: There are two species of sloths in Costa Rica: the two-toed sloth and the three-toed sloth. Sloths are slow-moving mammals that spend most of their time hanging from trees. They are an important part of the rainforest ecosystem, and they help to disperse seeds and pollinate plants.
Capuchin monkeys: Capuchin monkeys are small, intelligent monkeys that are known for their mischievous behavior. They are found in the rainforests of Costa Rica, and they are often seen swinging through the trees and eating fruit.
Howler monkeys: Howler monkeys are the largest monkeys in Costa Rica. They are known for their loud calls, which can be heard for miles around. Howler monkeys are an important part of the rainforest ecosystem, and they help to disperse seeds and pollinate plants.
Lizards: There are over 100 species of lizards in Costa Rica, including iguanas, geckos, and chameleons. Lizards are an important part of the ecosystem, and they help to control insect populations.
Frogs: There are over 200 species of frogs in Costa Rica, including poison dart frogs and tree frogs. Frogs are an important part of the ecosystem, and they help to control insect populations.
