Djibouti
Country in East Africa
Djibouti, on the Horn of Africa, is a mostly French- and Arabic-speaking country of dry shrublands, volcanic formations and Gulf of Aden beaches. It's home to one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world, the low-lying Lake Assal, in the Danakil Desert. The nomadic Afar people have settlements along Lake Abbe, a body of saltwater featuring chimneylike mineral formations. ― Google

10 Things NOT TO Do in Ethiopia!

Ethiopia is the home to nine UNESCO World Heritage sites, and an exciting country to visit. When you are a tourist, however, there are some things that you will want to avoid doing in this country. Some are just a waste of time while others may end up getting you hurt or even killed.

1. Don't Try to Speak the Language
It is a good thing that in most areas of the country, English is widely spoken. The official language of Ethiopia is Amharic, with its own alphabet. But there are over 83 different languages and regional variations spoken across the country. So...

2. Don’t Assume Noon is Noon
If you have a meeting at a certain time, be sure to check if that is on international time or Ethiopian time. Since Ethiopia sits almost on the equator, their days stay the same length throughout the year. Therefore, sunrise is at one, and the count begins for two 12-hour cycles. It can be noon on international time and 6PM on Ethiopian time, so be sure to clarify what time you're following.

3. Don’t Be Your Own Tour Guide
In many countries, you can travel around without a local guide, but Ethiopia is not one of those places. You will need a guide to reach many areas, and even some of the most famous things to do, like visiting Danakil, can be dangerous to do on your own. At the same time, make sure that your guide speaks English and that you get the all-inclusive price, so that extra fees are not tacked on at the end.

4. Don’t Forget Lunch
Everything grinds to a halt in Ethiopia for at least an hour at lunchtime with everything closing. Take advantage of this time to eat a good lunchtime meal. One thing you will want to try in Ethiopia is their fasting meals on Wednesdays and Fridays when no meat, fish or dairy products are eaten, so they make delicious vegan-friendly dishes.

5. Don’t Leave Your Winter Clothes at Home
Since this country sits near the equator, you would expect it to be warm all the time, but that is not true because many of the places that you will want to visit sit at a higher altitude and can get chilly in the evening. For example, in Simien National Park, temperatures can drop to 28 degrees Fahrenheit at night, so you need to dress in layers. At the same time, there are many places in the country where it can get scorching hot, like the Danakil Depression, where one of only four living lava lakes in the world is found, and has recorded temperatures of 125 degrees Fahrenheit.

6. Don’t Give Children Gifts
This may make you feel uncomfortable, but in most locations, you will encounter lots of begging children. Do not interact with them in any way, or it will encourage them to keep bugging you until you give them money. This practice needs to stop so that the children go to school and get an education.

There are many beautiful places to visit in Ethiopia. Keeping these negative things in mind will actually help you have a more positive vacation in this great country.

Bale Mountains National Park Ethiopia (Bale Tourist Attraction Sites-Ethiopia) (Abdisa Ahmed) Film

Bale Mountains National Park comprises about 2,177km2 of land in
South-Eastern Ethiopia and lies in the heart of the Bale Mountains
Mastiff. The park spans an altitudinal range of 1,500m a.s.l. to 4,377m
a.s.l. and its span over this gradient gives rise to several distinct
ecosystems including afroalpine moorland, Erica heath, grasslands,
juniper/Hagenia woodlands, cloud forests, moist-tropical montane
forests, and natural coffee forests. In addition, the Bale mastiff’s
relative isolation from other Ethiopian highlands has allowed for the
development of the park’s currently supported and impressive levels of
biodiversity and endemism.

Look for Rare Ethiopian Wolves in Bale Mountains National Park

Look for Rare Ethiopian Wolves in Bale Mountains National Park - The Top 12 Things to Do in Ethiopia.
Although Ethiopian wolves can be found in Simien Mountains National Park, the best place to see Africa’s most endangered carnivore is in southern Bale Mountains National Park. There are approximately 400 of these coyote-sized wolves left in the wild—and more than half of them live in the Bale Mountains. In particular, the Sanetti Plateau is famous for its wolf sightings. If you are lucky enough to spot one, you will be able to identify it easily by its slender build and russet fur. The endemic mountain nyala antelope is another top spot, while birders have the opportunity to look for more than 300 bird species. .

Home of the world's rarest wolf: Bale Mountains, Ethiopia

UNESCO estimated more mammal species would go extinct in the Bale Mountains if it was destroyed than anywhere else on Earth. Join us in this unique place. Animals live here that live nowhere else on the planet including the giant mole rat, Starck's hare and the Bale Mountains monkey. Bale Mountains National Park also supports the largest population of Ethiopian wolves - the world's rarest canid, the mountain nyala, Blick's grass rat, black-maned lion and endemic birds including the black-winged lovebird and Abyssinian oriole. Explore this amazing place with us here.

Ethiopia - Special Moments

Snapshots of daily life in two places in Ethiopia as well as two of its most famous parks: Maychew, Bale Mountains, Mago National Park and Axum.

We see a butcher at work in Maychew, located 665 km north of Addis Ababa.
The Bale Mountains, part of the Ethiopian Highlands and an area of wild alpine scenery, are home to many of Ethiopia's endemic animals, notably the Ethiopian wolf, found on the Sanetti Plateau.
Mago National Park is located about 780 kilometers south of Addis Ababa. The major environments in and around the Park are the rivers and riverine forest, wetlands and scrub. The park is home of the Mursi tribe, known for piercing their lips and inserting disks made of clay.
Axum has been the site of the historic capital of the Aksumite Empire, a naval and trading power that ruled the region from about 400 BCE into the 10th century. In 1980, UNESCO added Axum's archaeological sites to its list of World Heritage Sites due to their historic value. We see women carrying heavy water container up the hill.
