Zamek w Gniewie – usytuowany nad Wisłą zamek zbudowany przez Zakon krzyżacki na planie czworoboku po 1290 roku i rozbudowany w XIV i XV wieku, następnie od połowy XV do 1772 roku był siedzibą polskich starostów.
Obecnie jest to czterogwiazdkowy hotel ze strefą Spa & Wellness.
Można go również zwiedzać, lecz funkcje, które dziś pełni, nie pozwalają na zbyt dokładne zwiedzanie. Trasa wiedzie zaledwie przez kilka pomieszczeń i pozostawia niedosyt, na osłodę pozostają wspaniałe widoki na Wisłę.

В этом небольшом видео, выходящем за рамки нашей стандартной тематики, показана единственная достопримечательность - Замок Огродзенец. Этот замок расположен в Польше, между городами Краков и Ченстохова, на примерно одинаковом расстоянии от обоих этих городов. Замок Огродзенец был возведен в середине XIV века. Замок Огродзенец - самый красивый и самый большой среди многочисленных схожих строений Краковско-Ченстоховской возвышенности (все вместе подобные замки или руины замков объединены в туристический маршрут под названием: Путь Орлиных Гнёзд). Замок Огродзенец впечатляет своими величественными размерами и размахом, он очень живописно расположен на высоких холмах, которые местами даже переходят в небольшие скалы. Замок Огродзенец окружен большим количеством туристической инфраструктуры. Он восстановлен не до конца, а ровно настолько, чтобы полностью сохранить дух древности и налет таинственности. Сам замок расположен не в одноименном городке. Он находится на расстоянии двух километров от городка Огродзенец в восточном направлении, в деревне Подзамче. В видео использована аэросъемка, таким образом Замок Огродзенец продемонстрирован с высоты птичьего полета...
13th Century Teutonic Castle / Zamek krzyżacki z XIII w. Gniew
Construction of the castle was started by the Teutonic Knights after they took over the land of Gniew in 1282, and continued in the 14th century. It was under construction for 40 years. It was proclaimed the most powerful Teutonic castle on the left side of the Vistula river. The fortress was built in Gothic style on a square plan with an inner courtyard and a well. It had three turrets and one bigger defense tower. The original gate was located in the southern wing. There was a refectory in the north wing and a chapel in the south wing. In the eastern part there was probably a komtur's room and a dormitory. The castle was surrounded by a moat filled with water and defensive walls. Castle Gniew was rebuilt many times. During the Thirteen Years' War in the second half of the 15th century, and then during the Swedish wars in the 17th century, the stronghold was partially destroyed. In the 18th century the castle lost its defensive functions, was not renovated and was abandoned. After Gniew was taken over by Prussia in 1772, it was rebuilt as a grain storehouse. The Gothic vaults were demolished, the original window openings in all elevations were removed, the latrine tower (gdanisko) was demolished, the moats around the castle were filled in and an additional gate opening was made in the western wing. Partial reconstruction was carried out in 1857-1859, when a Prussian hard prison for repeat offenders was set up there. Two corner towers were rebuilt. In 1920 Gniew was joined to the Republic of Poland. The former prison housed Polish administration, and later the object was taken over by the army. In 1921, in unexplained circumstances, a fire broke out in the castle, which consumed the roof and three wings. Since then the castle has remained in a state of secure ruin. During World War II it was used as a temporary camp for Polish citizens from Pomerania. The post-war reconstruction aimed to make the castle more similar to the original one from the Middle Ages. As part of public works in 1992-1997, it was possible to raise the castle from the rubble, bringing it to its present shape.
