Me and my friend Anbu are planned to visit melmalayanur temple on saturday. But due to covid situation temples are closed on weekend days Friday , Saturday and Sunday. So we are not able to visit temple . On that time we went to that water falls near gingee where the water is not drain even on summer season also. That place is very nice but this is small place. so we enjoy that day by road ride , visit that water falls..

Watch this video to know everything about a trip to Gingee fort. In this video you will see the full journey to reach the top of Gingee Fort (Rajagiri Fort) from the car parking of the fort.

Time taken to reach the top of fort from the car parking lot with small rest breaks : 90 to 100 minutes(if you see all the monuments along the way then it will take more time. It is better to start climbing first to reach the top and see other monuments when you are returning from the top of mountain)

Useful tips:
1)Most important thing is don't forget to carry a stick to scare the monkeys. Finding sticks near the mountain is not easy.
2)Carry water bottle and snacks in a covered backpack as monkeys might attack to snatch.
3)Only one paid restroom available near the Car parking Lot.
4)No safety and security along the way. So, avoid going alone and go in groups.
5)If you are not fit or if you have any other health issues better avoid the climb.
6)The view from the top of the mountain will be amazing. Other than that nothing special to see, just few empty dilapidated buildings.
7)Small shop near the car parking lot sells Non branded water bottles and some low quality snacks in the afternoon. So it is better carry proper eatables from your home itself.
8)Try to wear a cap, sunglasses in Summer. Sunscreen is also a good idea.
9)After 3PM, no one is allowed to climb the fort.

Gingee fort, commonly called as Senji Fort is located in Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu. This fort is 160 kilometers away from Chennai and it is close to Pondicherry city. This fort is one of the oldest Fort found in Tamil Nadu which is best known for its architectural excellence. Gingee fort is structurally strong and it is constructed over small rocky hills with huge compound to prevent enemy from entering the premises. The British called this fort as “Troy of the East”. This fort is currently maintained by Archeological Department of India and it is one of the lesser known tourist sites in South India.

Gingee Fort or Senji Fort (also known as Chenji, Chanchi, Jinji or Senchi) (Marathi: जिंजी किल्ला) in Tamil Nadu, India is one of the surviving forts in Tamil Nadu, India. It lies in Villupuram District, 160 kilometres (99 mi) from the state capital, Chennai, and is close to the Union Territory of Puducherry. The site is so fortified that Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Maratha king, ranked it as the most impregnable fortress in India, and it was called the Troy of the East by the British. The nearest town with a railway station is Tindivanam and the nearest airport is Chennai (Madras), located 150 kilometres (93 mi) away.

Originally built by Ananta kon of the konar Dynasty around 1190 AD and later fortified by Krishna Konar,[1][2] it was later modified in the 13th century to elevate it to the status of an unbreachable citadel to protect the small town of saenji. It was also the headquarters [3][4] domination in northern Tamil Nadu. The fort was built as a strategic place of fending off any invading armies. As per one account, the fort was further fortified during the 15–16th century, the lieutenants of the and who later became independent kings. The fort passed to the Marathas under the leadership of Shivaji in 1677 AD, Bijapur sultans, the Moghuls, Carnatic Nawabs, French and the British in 1761. The fort is closely associated with Raja Tej Singh, who unsuccessfully revolted against the Nawab of Arcot and eventually lost his life in a battle.

The Gingee Fort complex is on three hillocks: Krishnagiri named after Krishna Kon to the north, Rajagiri or Anandagiri named after Ananda kon to the west[1] and Chandrayandurg to the southeast. The three hills together constitute a fort complex, each having a separate and self-contained citadel. The fort walls are 13 km (8.1 mi) and the three hills are connected by walls enclosing an area of 11 square kilometres (4.2 sq mi).[5] It was built at a height of 800 feet (240 m) and protected by an 80 feet (24 m) wide moat. The complex has a seven-storeyed Kalyana Mahal (marriage hall), granaries, prison cells, and a temple dedicated to its presiding Hindu goddess called Chenjiamman. The fortifications contain a sacred pond known as Aanaikulam. On the top of the hillock, there are minor fortifications.[5] The fort, in modern times, is maintained and administered by the Archaeological Survey of India. The fort is one of the prominent tourist destinations in Villupuram district.

Gingee is a large city in the state of Tamil Nadu, southeastern India, with the population slightly exceeding 400,000 people. Established at the end of the 12th century, the city is a popular business center and tourist spot, famous for its monuments, natural wonders and interesting cultural life, religious establishments, temples and churches in the city, which attract a good number of visitors.

Gingee fort, commonly called as Senji Fort is located in Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu. This fort is one of the oldest Fort found in Tamil Nadu which is best known for its architectural excellence.
The fort is constructed over 3 small hillocks Krishnagiri, Rajagiri and Chakkiliya Durg. The fort is surrounded by a big wall like compound that runs around 13 kilometers long enclosing the fort at an altitude of 800 feet. The Rajagiri fort complex has a seven-storeyed Chakkiliya Durg, prison cells, a temple, madapams, a sacred pond called as Aanaikulam. The cannon, cannon balls made of rock were still be seen in the fort complex. The Krishnagiri fort complex is also called as English Mountain. It is believed that this fort complex was occupied by Britishers. The Chakkiliya Durg fort complex is fully in destroyed state. The first hill, where the main fort is, is called Rajagiri. Originally it was known as Kamalagiri as well as Anandagiri. The fort was historically considered most impregnable. It is about 800 feet in height. This citadel contains important buildings apart from the living quarters of the royalty, like the stables, granaries, and meeting halls for the public, temples, mosques, shrines and pavilions. Ranganathar Temple, bell tower, watch tower, cannon and draw bridge are located atop the hill. This fort is currently maintained by Archeological Department of India and it is one of the lesser known tourist sites in South India.

It takes around 3 hours to visit all the spots within the fort. 15 Rs is collect as entry fee. The fort remains sturdy with strong walls which reminds us that it's a true Marvel after so many 100 years. The fort has multiple storeys, prison and a granary too.
