The town is also known by its former official name of Bailen. The municipality's current official name was adopted in 1965 and is named after Emilio Aguinaldo, the president of the First Philippine Republic, who died the year before the rename. General Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine Tour | Side Trip sa Road Trip (Cavite,Philippines)
Aguinaldo shrine was located in Kawit, Cavite, Phillippines. One of the most beautiful museums we've ever been. It was the old house of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. He donated his house to the Philippine Government on June 12, 1963, a year before he passed away. In 1964, it was declared as a National Shrine.

GEN. EMILIO AGUINALDO SHRINE | KAWIT, CAVITE
The history and a comprehensive travel guide for Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Cawit.

The Aguinaldo Shrine and Museum is only 19 km away from where we live on Taft Avenue.
We paid a total of Php 90 (Php 25 + Php 65) for toll fees one-way. The traffic was light on a Sunday afternoon in February. The museum did not charge an entrance fee. There are no restaurants in the area except for one air-conditioned milk tea place a few meters away from the entrance gate called My Cha. They also serve chicken shawarma.

The Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine, located in Kawit, Cavite, is one of the most significant historical sites in the Philippines. This shrine, which was the home of General Emilio Aguinaldo, the first President of the Philippines, is where the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spanish rule was proclaimed on June 12, 1898.
Historical Significance
The most notable event associated with the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine is the declaration of Philippine independence. It was from the balcony of this house that General Aguinaldo waved the Philippine flag for the first time, marking the country's freedom from over 300 years of Spanish colonial rule.
The shrine itself is a well-preserved example of Spanish colonial architecture, with a mix of Filipino and Spanish influences. It was originally built in 1845 and renovated by Aguinaldo in 1849. The design of the house reflects the period's aesthetic and practical aspects, including secret passages and a war room used during the revolution.
The shrine houses numerous artifacts from the revolutionary period, including weapons, uniforms, and personal items of Aguinaldo and other revolutionaries. These items provide a glimpse into the lives and struggles of those who fought for Philippine independence.
Beyond its historical importance, the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine is a cultural symbol of Filipino pride and resilience. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the revolutionaries and the enduring spirit of the Filipino people.
Visitor Experience
The shrine has been converted into a museum managed by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. Visitors can take guided tours to learn about the history of the Philippine Revolution and the life of Emilio Aguinaldo.
The museum offers various educational programs and activities for students and history enthusiasts. These programs aim to deepen the understanding of Philippine history and instill a sense of nationalism.
The shrine is the focal point of the annual Independence Day celebrations in the Philippines. Every June 12, a flag-raising ceremony and other commemorative events are held here, attracting thousands of visitors and dignitaries.
Preservation Efforts
The Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine is not just a tourist attraction but a cherished historical site. Efforts to preserve and maintain the shrine are ongoing, ensuring that future generations can continue to learn about and draw inspiration from this pivotal moment in Philippine history.
In conclusion, the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite, stands as a testament to the Filipino struggle for independence and the enduring legacy of its first president. Its rich history, cultural significance, and educational value make it one of the most important historical places in the Philippines

The Philippines national flag, as defined by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, is made of silk, had a white equilateral triangle at the left containing a sunburst of eight rays at the center, a five-pointed star at each angle of the triangle, an upper stripe of blue and a lower stripe of red. The sun stands for liberty; the sunburst of eight rays for the first eight provinces to take up arms against Spain; and the three stars for the three island groups of the Philippines – Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The white triangle signifies Filipino hope for equality; the upper blue stripe stands for peace, truth, and justice; while the lower red stripe stands for patriotism and valor.
The Philippine national flower is called “Sampaguita” which is generally known as the Arabian Jasmine. Its white color symbolizes purity, simplicity, humility, and strength.

Long recognized in the country’s history books as our National Hero, Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda’s status as our national hero has not been the subject of debate for the common Juan. Scholars, however, still argue about who should be given the title: Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Sultan Dipatuan Kudarat, Juan Luna, Melchora Aquino, and Gabriela Silang were listed down by former President Fidel V. Ramos as those worthy of being given the title of National Hero.
