-------------------------------
Join us as we take a short 2.5 hour road trip to Galena, IL . A small town with a population of 3300, this small city has a lot to offer! We went for a couple of days (we highly suggest you stay the night to take your time but you can most likely do and see everything in one day)
Our hotel:
Stoney Creek Inn (Galena), we did make a detailed video of our hotel and room (premier suite) if you are interested in knowing more, it can be seen here:
When visiting, expect to spend a good portion of your day on Main Street located in Downtown Galena (this was approx 5 minutes away from our hotel). Main Street offers 125+ shops/restaurants). They also have various tours from here (Trolley, Ghost tours, etc)
Running alongside the Galena River you'll find Grant Park - which is also walking distance from downtown Galena. The park offers a nice relaxing spot with Statues/monuments/canons/gazebos/playground and more!
What we couldn't see but wanted to check out was Chestnut Mountain .. this place has zip lining, ski lift, mini golf, alpine coaster and more! Maybe next time!!
No visit to Galena is complete without visiting the 18th presidents home, Ulysses S Grant. They do offer tours and is open to the public.
Thunderbay Falls is a small waterfall that's worth checking out. A nice secluded area located alongside private property (resort/golf course area)
Our restaurants of choice were Campeche Restaurant (Mexican food) which was delicious ! and they have a pretty neat rooftop seating area as well. We ordered the Chunky Guacamole, salsa, Fajitas de Camaron (Shrimp) and Enchiladas Suizas
And for dinner we went to Log Cabin Steakhouse , we ordered the Flaming Saganaki, Seafood Jamboree and Australian Lamb.
Definitely recommend both of those restaurants, 10/10 on both!!
If you guys have any questions about her visit, please put them in the comments below! Thanks for watching!

Galena is Known for its 19th century architecture, charming downtown, and year round outdoor activities.
Our friends invited us to take a short road trip and spend a weekend in Galena and stay with them. We packed all the snacks.
Once we were there, our lovely hosts Maddi cooked a nice home meal to settle us in.
We woke up the next day to a beautiful view and breakfast rivaling a 5 star hotel.
Before we leave, we have to mention and give credit to our resident hairstylist Jessy for the back to school braids.
While our friends went to shred the nar —- ew that's a little cringy. He means while our friends went snowboarding, we decided to explore downtown Galena.
The ride through the countryside towards town was calming and scenic, driving through wooded areas. We would recommend renting an Airbnb or other rental home outside of Galena to enjoy the natural scenery.
Now that we’re downtown, let’s walk around and see what Galena has to offer.
Galena’s downtown has a wide variety of unique shops, wineries, bars and restaurants. Definitely a great place to look for a unique gift for birthdays or holidays.
We wish we could have filmed inside these great shops, but many had no filming signs so you’ll just have to go experience it for yourself.
Time to get some desserts. We stopped at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for a sweet treat.
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory had unique treats like a variety of Carmel apples, ice cream, chocolates, and a whole section of truffles. We opted for a coffee truffle and a peanut butter truffle.
Walking downtown Galena feels like walking on a movie set. All of the buildings are picturesque and reminiscent of an old city. Don’t forget to snap a picture.
Out of the blue, Tessa got the inspiration to write, so we had to stop at a bookstore to find a notebook.
Then it was time to visit our friends out on the slopes, one of Galena’s top attractions. Galena has two main skiing and snowboarding resorts. We went to Chestnut Mountain Resort.
It was a holiday weekend so the resort was packed with family and people of all ages. Even though it’s not our cup of tea, we do want to highlight that this is a great activity in Galena and our friends had a blast.
After the slopes we changed and got ready for the night.
We started with Champagne on Main.
If you’re a champagne or wine person this was a really cute spot giving off a bit of a fancy vibe. It was perfect for starting our evening out.
We ended the night at Galena Cellars Winery for some live music.
We had a lot of fun at this spot and it also is a winery. On the second floor you can go for a wine tasting.
Our second and last day of the trip we went back downtown to explore this time with our whole group. We visited eclectic souvenir and gift shops.
You’d think we’d get enough sweets, — but it’s never enough– We stumbled upon Kandy Kitchen and immediately we went inside. We were like a bunch of kids in a candy shop because we were kids in a candy shop.
But then it was time to eat real food. We went to Bread and Vine for a quick brunch.
They had a variety of sandwiches, crescents, coffees and desserts.
Galena has a wide variety of restaurants. There were so many nice places to choose from that we’ll have to go back to explore more of their food.
Everywhere we went, we were met with amazing hospitality. Every server we had went out of their way to make sure we had a great night. It is the kind people in Galena that make us want to visit again and again. We highly recommend this as a quaint getaway. We will be back.
Finally, it was time to go back to Cedar rapids
