We're obviously aware of and deeply concerned about the global pandemic, and are choosing carefully what to publish as forms of escapism and entertainment to help ease thoughts of anxiety, and provide an alternative from the news. We are obviously NOT encouraging anyone to travel now or discouraging social distancing.

Explore Berkshires
Ice Glen trail is located in Stockbridge, MA in Berkshires
Ice Glen was donated to Stockbridge by David Dudley Field donated in 1891 (this act engraved on one of the moss covered boulders)
Beautiful arch bridge gate made out of native field stone. The bridge over Housatonic River connects the parking lot to the trail.
The trail is relatively easy but requires good balance.
The trail is absolutely magical and breathtaking. 1.4 mi out and back.

Backpacking Forest Glen Preserve - Illinois
My wife and I spent a weekend backpacking Forest Glen Preserve, a fun 11-mile backpacking loop in Illinois about 3 hours South of Chicago. The trail surprised me with how beautiful and enjoyable this trip turned out to be (to be honest...I thought it'd be boring).
We hiked the loop clockwise and trekked 7.5 miles on day one to East Camp, then 3.5 miles on day two. It was a nice campsite with five individual sites, with a fire ring, garbage can, and picnic table in each and a shared privy. A stream is just a 5 minute walk downhill from the site as a water source (must be filtered, of course).
Hiking the backpack trail in Forest Glen requires a permit (even for day hiking), which can be found on their website:

Welcome to my random musings on all things backpacking. If you haven't already guessed, my name is Dan. I was bit by the backpacking bug in 2014 and since then haven't gone one day without thinking about my next adventure. I'm from Chicago, a great city but...not so much known for its bountiful backpacking opportunities. Nevertheless, I haven't let that stop me from enjoying the outdoors. Hope my videos leave you with one or two takeaways, or even better, inspire you to head out on the trail. Thanks for watching! Have fun out there!
