Places to see in ( Chambery - France ) La Fontaine des Elephants
Places to see in ( Chambery - France ) La Fontaine des Elephants
With its four intricately carved elephants, this fountain looks like the model for an old Indian postage stamp. It was sculpted in 1838 in honour of Général de Boigne (bwan-y; 1751–1830), who made his fortune in the East Indies. When he returned home he bestowed some of his wealth on the town and was honoured posthumously with this monument. The genteel arcaded street that leads from the fountain to Château des Ducs de Savoie, rue de Boigne, is one of his projects.
The fountain of elephants , historically called the column of Boigne and today more simply called the Elephants or nicknamed the four without culottes , is a fountain located in France in the municipality of Chambéry , in the department of Savoie in France. region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Built in 1838 in honor of General Comte de Boigne , the fountain is today one of the most famous monuments of the city of Chambéry . It has been classified as a historical monument since May 7 , 1982
The fountain has in its plan the cross of Savoy. Four elephants reunited by the rump, made of cast iron , throw the water by their horns in an octagonal basin. They each carry a battle tower surmounted by a bas-relief or inscription. On the elephants stands a large column, symbolized by a trunk of palm. It carries at its summit the General's statue and its base is adorned with a large variety of trophies: Persian, Mughal, Hindu weapons; various objects recalling the manners, arts and civilization of nations that General de Boigne has fought or governed, up trophies .
( Chambery - France ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Chambery . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Chambery - France

Nestled in the heart of the Vaucluse Mountains, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is a charming village that is known for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The village is named after the spring that emerges at its heart, the source of the Sorgue River, which is one of the most powerful natural springs in the world. Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is my go to riverside restaurant destination once a year, do you have one ?
The village of Fontaine de Vaucluse is squeezed into the sharp end of a narrow valley and takes its name from the beautiful and mysterious spring feeding the river Sorgue. This spring comes from deep underground - nobody knows how deep.
UNKNOWN DEPTHS
In the 50s, Jacques Yves Cousteau came with a submersible to explore the depths but did not find the bottom. Since then a probe has made it to a sandy bed at a depth of 308 metres (1010 ft) but the spring itself comes from somewhere even deeper. It is said that all the rainwater from the Luberon and other surrounding mountains comes out of this one source, making a catchment area of 1100 square km (425 sq. miles). For most of the year all you can see is a deep blue pool of water at the bottom of towering cliffs. But during spring or very heavy rainfall it lives up to its name, with water gushing out at 200m3 (52,000 gallons) every second - this is one of the largest springs in the world.
THE SORGUE RIVER
This extraordinary phenomenon forms the crystal-clear Sorgue river, which soon turns a startling emerald, and it's this vivid hue that dominates the town of Fontaine de Vaucluse. The spring and the beautiful Sorgue river have made the Fontaine de Vaucluse a tourist trap, and souvenir stalls line the walk up to the source (although it must be said that if you are after souvenirs, they are quite good). Go early morning, late afternoon, or simply out of season if you want to avoid the crowds.
EXPLORING FONTAINE-DE-VAUCLUSE
Apart from the tourist shops the village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse has a selection of riverside restaurants, some intriguing museums, a 1000-year old church, and if you look up you'll see the remains of the castle. The paper museum (Moulin a Papier Vallis Clausa) is where you can see the old water-wheel pounding pulp to make paper. It also has a shop selling all sorts of fancy paper. A surprising museum to find here is the Museum of the Resistance, which is a sober and informative look at French life under German occupation in WW2. There is an Engish audio guide. The official name is Musée d’Histoire Jean Garcin: 1939–1945. You will also find museums dedicated to the poet Petrarch, who dallied here; the Provencal figurines called santons; and the explorations of a noted cave explorer. Right in the centre of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, plain and unassuming from the outside, is the 1000-year-old church, Notre-Dame et St-Veran. The interior is also austere, but beautiful. It contains the tomb of St-Veran himself, a noteworthy person in these parts, as he once chased off a river-dragon and saved the town.
Cinematic video of Fontaine des Fleuves (Fountain of Rivers) in Paris
The Fontaine des Fleuves (Fountain of Rivers) in Paris is located at the Champs-Elysses in a roundabout and is definitely worth checking out on your next trip to Paris. We absolutely loved all of the hidden gems in Paris.

Fontaine de Vaucluse 4K Aqueduc de Galas - Canal de Carpentras | Top Destination France | Planetlenz
One of the most beautiful functioning aqueducts in the south of France. The Aqueduc de Galas marks the entrance to the Famous Fontaine de Vaucluse.
This is a pretty cool bridge that connects not just the canal de Carpentras but a large walking trail that brings you through the Fontaine de Vaucluse.
A super picturesque destination in the Vaucluse region with ridiculous topography and a river that emerges from the mountain side. Perfect for hikers, photographers and picnicking, this destination is a perfect all around spot to see a bit of everything France has to offer.

La Fontaine des Éléphants,Chambéry,France 🇫🇷
Arrived in Chambery in the middle of a storm.....caught a bit of lightning by the fountain.
I did go back today in the sunshine and took some more photos 😊
Discover the Source of the Sorgue at Fontaine de Vaucluse
You'll find the source of the Sorgue river at the commune of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse in the Provence-Alpes-Cotes d’Azur region It is the biggest spring in France and the fifth biggest in the world with an annual flow of 630 million cubic metres. Apparently it surges in March for about 5 weeks and then subsides.
We weren't there at the flood, but if you check out the video you can see just how high the waters can go (hint: I would have needed scuba gear at that time).
We came here in search of the source of the Sorgue River and found a beautiful village aflush with water from its mysterious spring. To quote the Rime of the Ancient Mariner there was literally water, water, everywhere (but, I'm glad to say, plenty to drink)!
But there's a lot more to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse than this water source. An attractive medieval village surrounded by dramatic high cliffs, overlooked by a ruined bishop's castle, Saint Véran buried in the local church, plus the emerald green river flowing through it help to explain why this is one of the most visited villages in Provence. Oh, and Petrarch, the celebrated 14th century Italian poet and scholar, lived here!
