Places to see in ( Fleetwood - UK )
Fleetwood is a town and civil parish within the Wyre district of Lancashire, England, lying at the northwest corner of the Fylde. The site of the town has been continuously inhabited since the Middle Ages. Fleetwood acquired its modern character in the 1830s, when the principal landowner Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood, High Sheriff and MP, conceived an ambitious plan to re-develop the town to make it a busy seaport and railway spur. He commissioned the distinguished Victorian architect Decimus Burton to design a number of substantial civic buildings, including two lighthouses. Hesketh-Fleetwood's transport terminus schemes failed to materialise.
Decline of the fishing industry began in the 1960s, hastened by the Cod Wars with Iceland, though fish processing is still a major economic activity in Fleetwood. The town's most notable employer today is Lofthouse of Fleetwood, manufacturer of the lozenge Fisherman's Friend which is exported around the world.
Fleetwood is located on the Fylde Peninsula, 8 miles (13 km) north of Blackpool, on the western side of the mouth of the River Wyre. The town itself is on a peninsula, almost 2 miles (3 km) wide, bounded to the west by the Irish Sea, to the north by Morecambe Bay and to the east by the River Wyre. Access to Fleetwood is thus restricted, and for many years there were only two roads into and out of the town. A large sandbank, the North Wharf, extends some 2 1⁄4 miles (3.6 km) north into Morecambe Bay, and is exposed at low tide.
Fleetwood's economy still revolves around the traditional areas of fishing, tourism, port activity and light industry, but since the early 1970s the town has continued to struggle economically. A government report in 2006 stated that three of the town's five wards fall into the 5% to 10% most deprived wards in England. The town's largest and most prominent single employer is Lofthouse's of Fleetwood Ltd., manufacturers of Fisherman's Friend—a menthol lozenge popular worldwide and especially in Japan.
The Mount and the entire length of Fleetwood Promenade has an uninterrupted view across Morecambe Bay, a view described by author Bill Bryson in Chapter 23 of his book Notes From a Small Island as easily one of the most beautiful in the world, with unforgettable views across to the green and blue Lakeland hills: Scafell, Coniston Old Man, the Langdale Pikes. Directly across the Esplanade from the Mount lies the Marine Hall and Marine Gardens, Wyre Borough's largest entertainment venue, opened in 1935.
The 13 hectares of Fleetwood Memorial Park was developed out of the earlier Warrenhurst Park, itself an early-C20 park designed by Thomas Lumb of Blackpool. In 1917 the park was renamed Memorial Park in memory of those who died in the First World War. The memorial statue was added a few years later and memorial trees planted by the children who lost relatives. Fleetwood Pier, also known as 'Victoria Pier', was a feature of the town from its construction in 1910 until it was destroyed by fire in September 2008.

10 Most Hated Towns in England
What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

Rossall Tower on Fleetwood Seafront
It's a glorious day to visit Rossall Tower on Fleetwood seafront. With a twist! Watch the video to find out what that might be...
Find Rossall Tower on the Outer Promenade at Fleetwood seafront, not far from Rossall Point. We've parked at the car park near the log cabin cafe and sea cadets base. Join us as we walk along the sandy footpath to the Tower, with a few digressions for butterflies and wildlife!
The 42' tall, four storey Fleetwood Tower was completed in March 2013. It's designed to look as though it's leaning into the wind. Inside there is public information and a staircase leading to the upper floors. An observation gallery, the NCI Coastwatch Institute and an open viewing platform right at the top. There's amazing views from the top, of Rossall Beach Fleetwood, the Irish Sea, Lune Deep, Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland fells.

Walk Around Fleetwood Boating Lake
It's a lovely sunny Wednesday morning for a walk around Fleetwood boating lake.
In this walk around we'll go along the footpath adjacent to the pitch and putt course to the beach to take in the view across to the Lakes and Wyre Light in the channel. APOLOGIES: about 7 minutes in it's not Lancaster University! It's Heysham Power Station :-) Walk round the outer promenade on the seaward side of Fleetwood boating lake to cross the bridge across the centre of the lake - and we even see a lizard!
Find out what the large boating lake and the small boating lake at Fleetwood are used for, and enjoy a walk along this lovely section of seafront.

This walk around video begins at the entrance to Fleetwood Dock at Herring Arm Way. We'll walk around the site on the main road - the view that you'll be familiar with. Pass the Three Lights pub and walk past the plot of land where the Fish Park will be built.
The Fish Park and Project Neptune is a Wyre Council project. They've secured £4m from the government's Getting Building Fund - a pot of £900m designed to kickstart regeneration in areas worst hit by Covid. They're calling this regeneration work Project Neptune. It's the same fund which the Houndshill Extension and Abingdon Street Market in Blackpool have secured funds from.

The improvements to Fleetwood Dock are being made between the Ice Factory and the Three Lights pub car park. The plot of land adjacent to the A585 Amounderness Way is where the new commercial units for fish processing will be built (the fish park as it's known). Plus car parking, servicing and waste provision.

Another plot of land actually adjacent to the land, on the other side of Dock Avenue, will see improvements including the removal of the suspended quay and creation of a natural revetment. Existing warehouses will be demolished and some car parking space will be created.
