History of Buland Darwaza | Top 10 best places in Fatehpur Sikri | UP Tourism

Hey guys!

Fatehpur Sikri is a 500 year old faded jewel where Tansen sang for rains and Birbal polished his wits.
The city was the short-lived capital of the Mughal empire between 1572 and 1585, during the reign of Emperor Akbar.

We left for Fatehpur Sikri from Mathura. There wasn't any direct connectivity so we had to take a public transport to Bharatpur & then from there to Fatehpur. We stayed at Hotel Goverdhan which was just infront of the Buland Darwaza. It hardly took us 10 mins to reach there walking over the slope.

The Jama Masjid complex entrance was from Buland Darwaza where we saw saint Salim Chisti tomb, a water pond facing it. Inside the Jama Masjid were tombs of all relatives of the saint.
Interesting fact about the city was an Indo-Islamic masterpiece, which was erected in an area that supposedly suffered from water shortages and so was abandoned shortly after Akbar’s death.

Next after walking few meters & exiting this complex was Imperial Harem(complex) which housed 15 monuments. You need to buy ticket here. First we saw Jodha bai Palace then explored the other monuments. It was too good to be true. We were spell bound by the cities beauty.

Next we headed to the Land of Taj, Agra.
Stay tuned video coming soon ♥️

Fatehpur Sikri is a town in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh, India.
The city was founded in the year 1569 by the Mughal Emperor Akbar, and served as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1571 to 1585, when it was abandoned.
After his military victories over Chittor and Ranthambore, Akbar decided to shift his capital from Agra to a new location 23 miles south-west, to honour the Sufi saint and Salim Chishti.
Here, he commenced the construction of a planned walled city, which took the next fifteen years in planning and construction, with a series of royal palaces, harem, courts, a mosque, private quarters and other utility buildings.
He named the city Fatehabad, with Fateh, a word of Arabic origin in Persian, meaning victorious.
It was later called Fatehpur Sikri.
It is at Fatehpur Sikri that the legends of Akbar and his famed courtiers, the nine jewels or Navaratnas, were born.
Fatehpur Sikri is one of the best preserved examples of Mughal architecture in India.
According to contemporary historians, Akbar took a great interest in the building of Fatehpur Sikri and probably also dictated its architectural style.
Seeking to revive the splendours of Persian court ceremony made famous by his ancestor Timur, Akbar planned the complex on Persian principles.
The easy availability of sandstone in the neighbouring areas of Fatehpur Sikri also meant that all the buildings here were made of the red stone.
Fatehpur Sikri sits on rocky ridge, 3 kilometres in length and 1 kilometre in width and palace city is surrounded by a 6 kilometres wall on three sides with the fourth bordered by a lake.
Its architects were R Roy and Dhruv Chawla and was constructed using Indian principles.
The buildings of Fatehpur Sikri show a synthesis of various regional schools of architectural craftsmanship such as Gujarat and Bengal.
This was because indigenous craftsmen were used for the construction of the buildings.
Influences from Hindu and Jain architecture are seen hand in hand with Islamic elements.
The building material used in all the buildings at Fatehpur Sikri, palace-city complex, is the locally quarried red sandstone, known as 'Sikri sandstone'.
It is accessed through gates along the 5 miles long fort wall, namely, Delhi Gate, the Lal Gate, the Agra Gate and Birbal's Gate, Chandanpal Gate, The Gwalior Gate, the Tehra Gate, the Chor Gate and the Ajmeri Gate.
The palace contains summer palace and winter palace for queen jodha.

This video is based on my recently visit of fatehpur sikiri agra,
Fatehpur Sikri is located in 43 km far from Agra District in the State of Uttar Pradesh.
Fatehpur Sikri Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a hidden gem on the outskirts of Agra. It was built by the Mughal emperor Akbar, and it’s a beautiful reflection of the architecture of the era.

The fort is an entire complex of historical Mughal monuments from when it was the capital. It’s known for its red sandstone buildings, intricate carvings and expansive gardens.

Fatehpur Sikri Fort complex boasts an architectural blend of Islamic, Hindu and Persian styles. You can explore several monuments like Jodha Bai’s Palace, Panch Mahal and the tomb of Salim Chishti within the fort. Each place has its own allure and significance. Fatehpur Sikri Fort is in Fatehpur Sikri region of Uttar Pradesh, India. It’s said to be the first planned city of the Mughals. It has several buildings for administrative, residential and religious purposes. Agra to Fatehpur Sikri Fort distance is 43 km. It was renamed Fatehpur Sikri (meaning the City of Victory) in 1573 after Akbar’s victory over Gujarat. And it became a military stronghold as well as a place for scholars, poets and artists to gather.

The grandeur of the fort, though, was short-lived. Fatehpur Sikri was the Mughal capital only for 15 years, from 1571 until 1585.
Despite its brief period as a capital, Fatehpur Sikri Fort left an indelible mark on Indian history. Its architectural splendour continues to captivate visitors to this day.

And due to its historical and cultural significance, it was declared a UNESCO Heritage in 1986.

Places to visit in Fatehpur Sikri Fort.
1. Jodha Bai Palace – Jodha Bai Palace was the residence of Akbar’s favourite queen, Jodha Bai (also known as Mariam-uz-Zamani). And it’s a mirror of the respect and recognition she received. She was known for her grace, intelligence and strong influence on Emperor Akbar.

Wandering through Jodha Bai Palace, you can feel the grandeur of the queen’s daily life. It seamlessly integrates elements of Rajput and Mughal-style architecture.

2. Panch Mahal – Panch Mahal is another mesmerizing palace in the fort. It’s a five-storey structure that displays the artistic brilliance and engineering prowess of the Mughal artisans.

The palace holds a unique charm, and its design creates a graceful silhouette of the aesthetic structure that the palace is. Each storey is smaller than the lower one, and each is adorned with carved pillars and ornate balustrades.

3. Diwan-e-Khas – Diwan-e-Khas is a grand hall that Emperor Akbar used to entertain his special and eminent guests. The interior has a fusion of Hindu and Islamic artistic influences. And it offers a glimpse into the fascinating royal court.

4. Buland Darwaza – Buland Darwaza is a gateway in Fatehpur Sikri, which is known for its magnificence and architectural beauty. It’s 54 metres high, and it was built to commemorate Emperor Akbar’s triumphant victory over Gujarat.

The design of Buland Darwaza is a maze of intricate carvings, delicate latticework and complex geometrical patterns. And it still stands as a symbol of power, authority and conquest. It also offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape from its galleries.

5. Tomb of Salim Chishti – Salim Chishti’s tomb is another among the spiritual places in the fort of Fatehpur Sikri. It’s a pristine white marble mausoleum dedicated to Sufi saint Salim Chishti.

6. Anup Talao – Anup Talao is a magnificent, ornamental pool near Daulat Khana. It’s a red sandstone structure with an elevated platform and viewing and seating places around it. And it acted as a private retreat for Akbar to admire the beauty of the place.

Fatehpur Sikri (India) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Fatephur Sikri in India.
West of the city of Agra, in India, and surrounded by a ten kilometre long wall, is the fascinating ghost town of Fatehpur Sikri. It is believed that the founding of the town was closely associated with a prophecy made by a teacher of the religious Chishti Order who once lived there. The design of part of the Friday Mosque, once the largest sacred building in India, was based upon the Bibi Khanam Mosque in Samarkand. An inscription refers to the building as having been completed in 1572 thus making it one of the oldest buildings in Fatehpur Sikri. It is believed that the founding of the town was closely associated with a prophecy made by a teacher of the religious Chishti Order who once lived there. In 1569 the prophecy of the legendary mystic came true when the wife of Akhbar The Great gave birth to a long awaited male heir. Delighted at the result of the prophecy the powerful Mughal commanded that his residence be moved from Agra to Sikri, the home of his chief counsellor. Due to a more reliable water supply than that in Fatehpur Sikri, the Mughal ruler also chose Lahore, situated in today’s Pakistan, for its strategic advantages but only a few months after his death large sections of the palace buildings began to decay. In a way it is fortuitous that this former royal residence became neglected and abandoned thus, free from struggle and strife, this remnant of Mughal history has managed to survive to the present day.

Best Places To Visit In Fatehpur Sikri l Uttar Pradesh l India

Fatehpur Sikri, is a town in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh, India.

Fatehpur Sikri itself was founded as the capital of the Mughal Empire in 1571 by Emperor Akbar, serving this role from 1571 to 1585, when Akbar abandoned it due to a campaign in Punjab and was later completely abandoned in 1610.

The khanqah of Sheikh Salim Chishti existed earlier at this place.

Akbar's son, Jahangir, was born in the village of Sikri to his favourite wife Mariam-uz-Zamani (known as Jodhabai) in 1569 and in that year, Akbar began construction of a religious compound to commemorate the Sheikh who had predicted the birth.

After Jahangir's second birthday, he began the construction of a walled city and imperial palace here. The city came to be known as Fatehpur Sikri, the City of Victory, after Akbar's victorious Gujarat campaign in 1573.

Fatehpur Sikri is a town in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh, India. The city itself was founded as the capital of Mughal Empire in 1571 by Emperor Akbar. This place is 35km from Agra city. You can reach by train as well as by bus. I traveled by Bus from Idgah bus stand to Fatehpur Sikri. Idgah bus stand is 2.5KM from Agra Cantt Railway Station. Hi Guys

This Video is about the History of Fatehpur Sikri situated around 43 km from Agra (Uttar Pradesh).

The city itself was founded as the capital of Mughal Empire in 1571 by Emperor Akbar, serving this role from 1571 to 1585, when Akbar abandoned it due to a campaign in Punjab and was later completely abandoned in 1610.

Fatehpur Sikri was founded by Akbar and is also known as the Dream City of Akbar. Akbar's son Jahangir was born at the village of Sikri in 1569 and that year Akbar began construction of a religious compound to commemorate the Sheikh who had predicted the birth. After Jahangir's second birthday, he began the construction of a walled city and imperial palace here. The city came to be known as Fatehpur Sikri, the City of Victory, after Akbar's victorious Gujarat campaign in 1573.
