Kumarakom is a village on Vembanad Lake in the backwaters of Kerala, southern India. It’s laced with canals, where houseboats ply the waters. Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is home to many species including cuckoos and Siberian storks. Nearby, the Bay Island Driftwood Museum displays wooden sculptures. In the lake, Pathiramanal Island is a haven for rare migratory birds. Ancient Thazhathangady Mosque is east of Kumarakom.

The other major attraction is the Bird Sanctuary, which is open from 6 am to 6 pm and can be visited by canoes arranged by local fishermen at the entrance to the sanctuary. A two-hour rowing canoe trip is quite cheap, and is best undertaken in the evening or early morning to avoid the afternoon sun.
Furthermore, the Aruvikkuzhi Waterfall and its surrounding rubber plantation are a photographer's delight. There is also the Bay Island Drift Museum near the Kumarakom beach for history lovers, open from 10 am – 5 pm on Tuesdays – Saturdays and from 11.30 am – 5 pm on Sundays.

At a distance of 48 Kms from Kottayam and 10 Kms from Erattupetta, Ayyampara is famous for rocky formation spread across 20 acres amidst great natural beauty.
The rock formed in the shape of a stadium, it is a good trekking destination. Located at an altitude of 2000 feet, Ayyampara derived its name from the Lord Ayyappa temple located here. This place is also famous for spectacular sunsets. The Five Rocks here are said to represent the five Pandava brothers of the Indian epic Mahabharata.

Located in Erattupetta , the Ayyampara hills is a beautiful picnic spot in Kottayam.
According to legends, the five Pandava brothers - epic heroes of the Mahabharatha - stayed near this rock, 2000 ft. above sea level and spread over 20 acres, during their exile. The name of the rock is said to be a modified version of the original term Anchupara (five rocks). However, some say that the name owes its origin to the Ayyappa Temple here. This temple has four pillars which support a flat piece of rock that forms the roof. On one side of the rock is a cave that can accommodate over 15 people.
The sunset vies from Ayyampara hill is beautiful. Above all, the cool mountain breeze does wonders to your mind and body.
