Elena, Veliko Tarnovo region of Bulgaria must visit place when you are there!!!!
Today is Really A Taste of Bulgaria, Elenski Byt from the town of Elena in the Veliko Tărnovo Region of Bulgaria is Famous all over the country.
Bulgarians really love to make their own things from scratch themselves, fully organic and tasty. He shop I found in Elena was no exception.
Elena in Veliko Tarnovo’s region of Bulgaria are very proud and famous for their hospitality, so the owner of this shop was very kind to show me around and tell me the legend of Bulgaria’s cured ham and Spain’s cured ham
The Executive Chef is Martin Tru the son of the owner and was also a participant in Bulgaria’s Hell’s Kitchen, was also the winner of “cherry on the Tart” which is Bulgaria’s answer to “Come dine with me”
Though I did have chance to eat at the restaurant, the next time I’m in Elena, Veliko Tarnovo region of Bulgaria... I will be going there

🧳 BLOG: 15 Places You Must Visit in Bulgaria -
👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE SHIRTS & MERCH:
Back in 2013, my wife Ana and I spent 22 days driving around the beautiful Balkan country of Bulgaria. These are the 15 places you have to visit in Bulgaria!
1. Sofia
Bulgaria’s capital and largest city is the ancient city of Sofia. It’s the perfect city to begin your Bulgarian vacation. Check out Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the National Archaeological Museum, and the ruins of the Fortress of Serdika.
2. Rila Monastery
About 73 miles south of Sofia is Rila Monastery, the largest Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It’s famous for its beautiful frescoes!
3. Plovdiv
Plovdiv is the second-largest city in Bulgaria. Check out the 2nd century Stadium, the Ancient Forum, the Old Town, and the pedestrian-friendly city center!
4. Hisarya
From Plovdiv, take a day trip to the ancient Roman town of Hisarya, which is home to some of the best-preserved Roman gates and walls in Bulgaria, as well as ancient streets, Roman baths, and an amphitheater!
5. Stara Zagora
In Stara Zagora, visit the Neolithic Dwellings Museum, the Regional History Museum, and the Roman Forum of Augusta Trayana!
6. Burgas
In the coastal city of Burgas, check out the Sea Garden and Sculpture Garden, the Archaeological Museum of Burgas, and the annual Sand Festival. Grab a bite at either Ethnos Restaurant or Vodenitsata Restaurant.
7. Sozopol
Sozopol is a seaside town that dates back to the 7th century BC. You can find the remains of Apollonia on St. Kirik Island, and remains of the old city walls around town. Don’t forget the annual Apollonia Art Festival!

In the seaside resort town of Pomorie, check out its beach as well as the town’s wine production, salt production, and mineral water. You also can’t miss the unique Beehive Tomb, the only tomb of its kind in Bulgaria!

3. Arbanasi is a very small village perched on a hill about 5 kilometers away from Veliko Tarnovo. Besides the amazing views of Veliko Tarnovo and Tsarevets, Arbanasi offers quaint cobblestone streets and old houses surrounded by high National Revival style stone fences. Arbanasi is one of the most popular destinations in Bulgaria among the locals. There are numerous hotels and restaurants in this small village. One of the best attractions is the Nativity Church. It has some beautiful frescoes that date back to the 16th and 17th century. You can also visit one of the typical National Revival style houses – Konstantsalieva House – and learn about how people lived in those days.
2. One of the best places to visit in all of Europe, Veliko Tarnovo stands out because of its remarkable beauty. The River Yantra meanders through Veliko Tarnovo creating a picturesque setting for this historic northern Bulgarian city. National Revival style houses cling to the hills, making it so easy to fall in love with this inviting city. A lesser known fact is that the city was Bulgaria’s capital between the 12th and 14th century, during the heyday of the Second Bulgarian Empire. When in Veliko Tarnovo, visit Tsarevets – the fortress with ramparts, the king’s castle, and the church on the top of the hill. Go back in time by walking along the cobblestone Gurko Street and shop for handcrafted souvenirs at the Samovodska Charshia. For the most amazing 360-degree views of the city, go to the Asenevtsi Monument. You should also try to visit the art gallery while you’re there.
1. At first sight Bulgaria’s largest city just seems like another busy and modern capital, but there are layers of history that are still being uncovered. The latest discovery happened between 2010 and 2012 when a whole part of the ancient city of Serdica was found during excavation works for one of the metro stations. Some of the most famous attractions in the city include the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Saint Sofia Church with its subterranean museum and the necropolis, the 4th-century Church of St. George, and the UNESCO-awarded Boyana Church. For the museum lovers, Sofia is home to the National History Museum where you can see some of the most famous ancient gold treasures in the world, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Archeology Museum, the National Art Gallery which is housed in the former royal palace, and the Museum of Socialist Art. The nature lovers won’t be disappointed either, as Sofia is located at the foot of the Vitosha Mountain, where you can go hiking and skiing. You’ll find everything from exciting nightlife and affordable accommodation to lovely boutiques and charming cobblestone streets when you visit Sofia.

Number 6. RAKETA RAKIA BAR
Raketa Rakia Bar
Rakia is Bulgaria's most famous drink, and homemade bottles are often proudly shown off after every evening meal. Raketa Rakia Bar is a popular restaurant in the middle of the city that serves a wide range of local and international dishes. It is also a lively bar with the best selection of rakias in the city. With its quirky decor and shelves full of random memorabilia, Raketa has a cool, trendy vibe, but it's also bright, airy, and very laid-back.
Number 5. BITAKA FLEA MARKET
Bitaka Flea Market
Bitaka Flea Market, which is the largest bazaar in the area, is a great place to find strange and interesting souvenirs from Sofia. Bitaka is a treasure trove of interesting things, including cameras and other technology, toys and watches, jewelry, clothes, and old photos. The market is in the middle of town, next to the Aleksander Nevski Cathedral. Bitaka is open every weekend from early in the morning until late in the afternoon.
Number 4. ALEXANDER NEVSKY CATHEDRAL
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was once one of the largest Eastern Orthodox churches in the world and an amazing place to visit. It is built in the beautiful and intricate Neo-Byzantine style and is one of Sofia's most popular tourist spots. The cathedral is full of history and is an important symbol of Bulgaria's past. It was built in honor of St. Alexander Nevsky, a prince who was famous for his military victories over Germany and Sweden in the 1300s. Today, it is the official church of Bulgaria's head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Simeon Nikolov Dimitrov, who is a Neophyte.
Number 3. POD LIPITE TAVERN
Pod Lipite Tavern
The Pod Lipite Tavern is a rustic pub that has been around since 1926 and is one of the oldest restaurants and bars in Sofia. Famous Bulgarians like actress Elena Snezhina and writer Angel Karaliichev used to hang out there all the time. Pod Lipite uses traditional recipes and cooking methods to make hearty, homemade Bulgarian dishes with meat and dairy from the restaurant's own farm. It's a great place to try real Bulgarian food. Pod Lipite is one of the best places to eat in Sofia.
Number 2. BORISOVA GRADINA PARK
Borisova Gradina Park
For some fresh air and peace in the middle of the city, go to Borisova Gradina Park. The park was built in 1884 and was named for King Boris III of Bulgaria. It is split into three parts. Joseph Frei, Georgi Duhtev, and Daniel Neff, all successful and skilled gardeners, were in charge of each section. The park is a beautiful place to see Bulgaria's natural beauty. It has a lot of peaceful green spaces and tree nurseries, as well as a famously beautiful water lily lake. It is a great thing to do to relax a bit.
Number 1. THE NATIONAL PALACE OF CULTURE
The National Palace of Culture
The National Palace of Culture is a beautiful building in the middle of the city. It was built in 1981 as part of the celebrations for Bulgaria's 1300th birthday. The huge hexagonal building is mostly made of grass and concrete. It was designed by the famous Bulgarian architect Alexander Georgiev Barov, who was a popular artist in Bulgaria when it was a communist country. Today, the building and the gardens around it are interesting examples of socialist architecture from the past.

Stuck for things to do in Elena, Beautiful town in The Balkan Mountain
Here are my top 5 picks of what you can do in Elena, Veliko Tarnovo region of Bulgaria.
When you are in the Stara Planina mountain range or the Balkan Mountains, the town of Elena in the Veliko Tarnovo region, you have a lot of cultural things you can do and learn about.
The Balkans are very beautiful mountains and the the town of Elena definitely does it proud. The Stara Planina is very respected in the Bulgarian cultural.
Elena us know for many things such as Elenski Byt or Elenski Slivavitsa, it’s also famous for its May big names throughout the Bulgarian history. Elena is established itself as a place of Arts, Craft and education.
It had the first Modern School in the whole Balkans, the whole Bulgaria even the whole world.
I think it is definitely one of the prize possessions of the Stara Planina or Balkan mountains.

Walking in Elena (Bulgaria) - Cultural Sights
Elena (Bulgaria) is an old settlement founded before the 15th century. During the 18th and 19th century it established itself as a centre for crafts, trade and education. There are several architectural ensembles preserved dating back to the Bulgarian National Revival and comprising about 130 old houses. There are also wall-to-wall construction forms and interesting street silhouettes. The houses have stone basements with white-washed or wooden walls of the upper floor with protruding bays above.
The town's sights include an old first class school, founded in 1848 and named Daskalolivnitsa, where future teachers were educated (and where nowadays a museum exhibition is arranged). The St Nicholas Church of the 16th century, with valuable mural paintings and icons, and the three-naved Church of the Assumption, built entirely of stone (1837). The clock tower (Chasovnikova kula) that features an antique clock mechanism (1812) rises at the town's highest point. (Source: Wikipedia)

Hello Bulgaria!
Episode BG54. Feast of the Deer Leg in the town of Elena
The city has been known since 1430 under the names Strumena and Elyana. Sorry if I didn't put the emphasis correctly. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the city of Elena was a craft, trade and cultural center. The city and the people of Elen played an important role during the Bulgarian Revival, with the participation of Elen residents in almost every important event that followed.
