Walls of Constantinople | Turkish History
The Theodosian Walls are the fortifications of Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine Empire, which were first built during the reign of Theodosius II (408-450 CE). Sometimes known as the Theodosian Long Walls, they built upon and extended earlier fortifications so that the city became impregnable to enemy sieges for 800 years. The fortifications were the largest and strongest ever built in either the ancient or medieval worlds. Resisting attacks and earthquakes over the centuries, the walls were particularly tested by Bulgar and Arab forces who sometimes laid siege to the city for years at a time. Sections of the walls can still be seen today in modern Istanbul and are the city's most impressive surviving monuments from Late Antiquity.
Although the city had benefitted from previous emperors building fortifications, especially Constantine I when he moved his capital from Rome to the east, it is Emperor Theodosius II who is most associated with Constantinople's famous city walls. It was, though, Theodosius I (r. 379-395 CE) who began the project of improving the capital's defense's by building the Golden Gate of Constantinople in November 391 CE. The massive gate was over 12 meter's high, had three arches, and a tower either side. It was entirely built of marble and decorated with statues and was topped with a sculpture of a chariot pulled by four elephants. The Golden Gate probably marked the start of triumphal processions which ended in the Hippodrome. Two decades later, Theodosius II was alarmed at the recent fall of Rome to the Goths in 410 CE and set about building a massive line of triple fortification walls to ensure Constantinople never followed the same fate. The man credited with supervising their construction is Theodosius' Praetorian Prefect Anthemis. The walls extended across the peninsula from the shores of the Sea of Marmara to the Golden Horn, eventually being fully completed in 439 CE and stretching some 6.5 kilometers. They expanded the enclosed area of the city by 5 square kilometers.

I'm back in Ethiopia for the 3rd time because it's one of my favorite countries in Africa! I am now exploring a city in the North called Gondar, and little did I know that I'd come across thousands of fellow Jews.
As you might know by now, I enjoy connecting with Jewish communities around the world, like I've done in Afghanistan, Yemen, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Philippines among many others -- but this experience has been the most eye-opening because of how alive the Jewish culture is. Some 4,000 Ethiopian Jews are here, studying torah, keeping Shabbat and learning Hebrew.
If this is not a fascinating story, then I am not sure what is! Join me as I take you inside the world of the forgotten Jewish tribe of Ethiopia.

Tunisia's Star Wars (& Indiana Jones) filming locations: Maguer Gorge, Sidi Bouhlel, near Tozeur
This is the first part of a six-location adventure where we track down Tunisia's hidden Star Wars (and Indiana Jones) filming sites in the south of the country, around Nefta and Tozeur. Some of them are easy to access, like this one, others involve driving through the desert and potentially getting stuck in the dunes...hence the shovel! We begin our adventure at Maguer Gorge (Sidi Bouhlel), on the western edge of Dghoumès National Park in the Tozeur Governorate of southwestern Tunisia. This site was used by George Lucas to film Star Wars: A New Hope (Episode IV) in 1976 and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (Episode I) in 1997. Steven Spielberg then returned to this area to film scenes from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981.
Nicknamed Star Wars Canyon, Maguer Gorge was the setting for two Episode IV locations on Tatooine: (1) Jundland Wastes and (2) a desert wasteland bluff overlooking Mos Eisley. Lucas and his team returned to the Maguer Gorge in July 1997 for Episode I to shoot the Boonta Eve Classic sniper sequences as part of the podrace circuit on Tatooine. In 1981 Steven Spielberg headed to the area and filmed footage of the Ark of the Covenant procession route for Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). Just southeast of the gorge, Spielberg also filmed a desert area as the Tanis (Egypt) dig site. We visit all of these sites as part of our video tour!
Thanks to Galaxy Tours for all this information about these amazing filming sites! You can find out more about the company and their work in Tunisia here:

The majority of journalists around the world have chosen to develop their subject on controversial and sensational themes: violence, war, crime. But all these facts represent only 1% of our world and its inhabitants, forgetting the remaining 99% of which we never speak.
I chose to visit every country on the planet and film them to present them in High Definition format but in a raw way, without music, without comment. Simply, reality in all its truth. Thus, you will be able to make your own idea of the world in which you live.
Currently, I have already visited nearly 170 countries and my world tour continues thanks to you who follow me.

J’ai choisi de visiter chaque pays de la planète et de les filmer pour vous les présenter en format Haute définition mais de manière brute, sans musique, sans commentaire. Alaska day 3, WE WENT TO A VERY PECULIAR CEMETERY... │ My travel Journal
Alaska keeps surprising us, today we went to a very peculiar cemetery, also some waterfalls next to it. We went for some Hot Dogs and we found RAINDEER Hot dogs and Bison Hot dogs, really good.
We are going to tell you a little bit of the history of Skagway as well.
The place to get the Hot Dogs is called The Sippin Sasquatch and the prices are like this:
Raindeer dogs $6.00
Jalapeño and Cheddar $6.50
Very recommended
THE CEMETERY is called the Gold Rush Cemetery and is very close to Downtown Skagway, a little walk and you will be there, just walk until the end of the town and you will see the signs.
