✅ HISTORY
When Tammisaari became the administrative center of Raasepori county in 1528, Raasepori lost its importance. King Kustaa Vaasa granted Tammisaari city rights in 1546. The location of the city had long been known as a harbor and fishing spot, and the idea of founding a city had been brewing for a long time. An old water route also ran through the area deep into Etelä Häme.
At first, however, the authorities' decisions were slow and did not favor the city's growth. One year after the founding of the city, an attempt was made to get the inhabitants to move to war-torn Vyborg, and after the founding of Helsinki, the inhabitants of Tammisaari, Porvoo and Rauma were ordered to move to Helsinki.
✅ TAMMISAARI CHURCH
The center of Tammisaari in an aerial view Tammisaari church was built in the 17th century.
Its construction was started in 1651 by Count Gustaf Adolf Leijonhufvud. The church got its current look after the fire that destroyed the city in 1821. The existence of the church could save Tammisaari's city rights, as King Charles XI was still in the 1690s about to cancel them. In the 17th century, the city's trade also suffered from mercantilism, i.e. state regulation and patronage.
Among other things, in 1614, the entry of foreign ships into the city's harbor was prohibited. In 1636, foreign trade was completely banned. In the 18th century, trading became easier. At the end of the century, Tammisaari became especially a city of practitioners of various handicraft professions. In 1772, artisans were ordered to hang plaques on their workshop doors announcing what they were making. This brought more color to the city.
✅ TAMMISAARI TOWN HALL
Elias Lönnrot, among others, went to school in the city in the 19th century, and he traveled the distance to his home in Sammatti every weekend. The school decree of Uno Cygnaeus was written in the city. Cygnaeus also inaugurated Finland's first women's seminary in Tammisaari in 1872.
In 1850, the town had about 1,500 inhabitants. In 1873, the city got a railway, when the Hanko–Hyvinkää railway was completed. This caused the rise of industry and the expansion of the city in the direction of the railway. In 1910, about 3,000 people lived in the city, and in 1957, about 5,200.
In the years 1918–1940 Tammisaari prison camp, later a forced labor facility, operated in Tammisaari.
On the fort of the island of Hästö-Busö, which was part of the municipality, the battery of the now defunct Hanko Coastal Battery operated and conscript training was also provided on the island.
On January 1, 1977, Tammisaari rural municipality and Snappertuna municipality were merged into Tammisaari. On January 1, 1993, the municipality of Tenhola was merged with the city. At the beginning of 2009, Tammisaari was combined with Karja and Pohja to form the city of Raasepori. (wikipedia)

Welcome (back) to another scene, dear viewer.
Before we get into the historical facts.
I'm grateful that i was able to have this day off. (Kiitos)
Recently a snow storm came by and I knew it could be the last of the season.
I was so happy to be able to shoot several beautiful scenes.
Today we're welcomed in the beautiful seaside town of Ekenäs.
It's 18.45 and we're within the hour after sunset, otherwise known as 'Civil Twilight'.
The temperature started a lot colder this morning but luckily rose to just -6°c.
The distance from Helsinki is about 92 km, just over 1 hour by car.
Ekenäs is the Swedish name of this town while Tammisaari is the Finnish one.
The majority speaks Swedish with 81% and just 17% speak the Finnish language.
Ekenäs is Finland's 7th oldest town and the first of the non-medieval towns.
Ekenäs was granted town rights in 1546 by King Gustav Wasa.
before that, in the Middle Ages a fishing village with small log cabins, its location was already known for maritime transport.
The old, mainly wooden town center is protected due to its cultural historical value.
Renovation to residential buildings is strictly controlled.
The history dates back to 16th century, but most of the current buildings date back to the 18th and 19th century.
For centuries the town was known for its skilful craftsmen. Many of the streets were named for the skilled trades practiced here.
Today, many still live here, including shoemakers, watchmakers, upholsterers, carpenters and restaurateurs to name a few.
The cosy bakeries and cafés are popular, as is the market on Wednesday and Saturday, especially in summer.
In the heart of the Town is the Church of Ekenäs.
Construction began already in the early 1650s, it took over 20 years to finish.
However, in 1821 there was a fire in the Old Town and in 1839 the restorations started.
Ekenäs is situated on a peninsula, surrounded by water with an enlarged archipelago consisting of about 1300 islands.
The archipelago also houses the Ekenäs National Park.
During the summer months the terraces attract many visitors, especially in the late evening when the sun begins its slow descent to the horizon.
Ekenäs is home to the oldest still functional cinema in Finland called Bio Forum. Located in the centre and it was founded in 1912.
Today the Old Town is still inhabited. Some houses are often empty, others are inhabited all year round.
Over the years, several renovations have been carried out. The Old Town is cared for today, perhaps more than ever before.
Thank you for keeping me company this evening, i hope you will enjoy the rest of the walk.
I managed to film a walk in Ekenäs last year (musical cinematic), i'll link it below or in the top right corner of your screen.

A beautiful igloo in Finland 🇫🇮
Igloos are traditional domed houses built by the Inuit and other Arctic peoples. They are constructed using blocks of snow and are designed to provide insulation against the harsh cold temperatures.
A beautiful igloo in Finland would be a unique and interesting place to stay and visit, but it may not be the most common accommodation, as igloos are typically built for practical purposes, such as providing temporary shelter for hunting and travel. You can find some igloos for rent for a night or two in some places like Lapland, offering a unique experience for tourists.

Hello, and welcome back to another scene.
Nice to have you here, would you like to join me?
On this beautiful Sunday afternoon we are accompanied by a radiant sun.
Today we find ourselves in Helsinki's bustling Central Market Square to be precise.
The glorious sun draws many people outside.
There also seem to be international ice hockey fans exploring Helsinki.
This year, the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships are held in Finland.
The matches will be played in Helsinki and Tampere.
The biggest sport in Finland is of course ice hockey, which makes this year extra special.
International fans from countries like Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, USA, etc are in Finland during the tournament.
Winters in Finland are known to be dark and cold for a long time.
The transition from winter to summer can be a tricky one.
Of course it feels great to have long and warm sunny days again, but it takes time to adapt.
After a long ~6 months of winter, body and mind had to take another 'beating'.
Some years are faster and easier to transition than others.
It's not just the mind, but the change of clothes and the extreme sunshine on the skin that can make it difficult.
Of course, southern Finland still has it a bit easier than the people who live in the north (Lapland).
But today i feel blessed to enjoy the outdoors and i hope you are too.
If you want to see Finland in winter, i'll link several walks in the description or at the top right corner of your screen.

Helsinki is a compact and beautiful city to visit and live in.
One of the world's highest standards of urban living.
Ranked in the top 3 best city in the world to live in, with London and New York City.
Together with Rovaniemi (Lapland), Helsinki is one of Finland's most significant tourist cities.
It is the world's northernmost metro area and home to over one million people.
Helsinki was founded as a town near the 'Helsinge Rapids', which you can see in another video.
I will link it in the description and at the top right corner of your screen.

The Nature of Finland in Summer
Finland is Europe's most forested country. About 70% of the land is covered with trees. Most forests are coniferous, as the country lies at the western edge of the coniferous taiga forest zone that stretched off eastwards through Russia and Siberia.
