From Wikipedia:
Washington Valley Park is a 715-acre public park between the first and second Watchung mountain ridge in the Martinsville section of Bridgewater Township, New Jersey that is administered by the Somerset County Park Commission. It contains the Washington Valley Reservoir and the Chimney Rock Hawk Watch.
The only partially developed park has a western and eastern section separated by the Bound Brook Gap with the Chimney Rock Road that connects Bound Brook with Martinsville. The terrain is rocky and mountainous and covered with pine and hemlock. At the center of the western section of the park is the 21-acre Washington Valley Reservoir (formerly known as the Bound Brook/Elizabeth Reservoir), which was created in 1920 when the western branch of the Middle Brook was dammed. The eastern section of the park has the much smaller East Branch Reservoir and the Buttermilk Falls of the eastern branch of the Middle Brook.
Adjacent to the park is the Chimney Rock Quarry built atop the old Chimney Rock Copper Mine a.k.a. Bound Brook Quarry or Washington Mine. Copper mines over 165 feet (50 m) deep exist and active mining continues to this day as owned and operated by the Stavola group of companies. The most famous copper find was used to mold a small brass cannon later used at the siege of Yorktown. Calcite has also been mined from the nearby Chimney Rock Quarry.

Coming soon to your town....
The Carver Cotton Gin on the Satucket River, E. Bridgewater, Ma.
Was half asleep when I headed out to do this one. Wanted to get in there while still daylight and early enough that the business near it wasn’t open. You know that place you always drive by but have never checked it out but always wanted to? Ya.. thats this place for me.
Im soooo glad I did. It was fantastic, larger than what you can see from the street and historical.. an exploring dream. This beautiful old mill is up for sale and will probably end up a retirement community or apartments or some such shit. Would love to see it restored to be a historical park area intact with some structures. Not one ounce of graffiti found in this area. Was truly like stepping back in time. In love with these places and grateful for experiences.
Happy Exploring 🍃
The Carver Cotton Gin on the Satucket River, E. Bridgewater, Ma.
Soon after the War of 1812, Eleazer Carver started a cotton gin factory on the outlet of Carver’s Pond. By 1818, Bridgewater could boast its share of forges, slitting mills, anchor shops, nail factories, and trip hammers, as well as many mill wrights and mechanics. The iron industry also profited from important inventions such as the tack and nail machines of Ezekiel and Jesse Reed. In fact, Bridgewater led the way in the making of tacks and nails, an activity that remained part of the town’s industrial complex for years to come.
1840's Manufacturing Buildings. Unique Property Features including the Satucket River and 8+ acres. This beautiful old mill is connected to an old building operating as a small storage facility. Located on the corner of route 106. This property is currently for sale with the plans of demolition in mind.
The more than 175 year old dam on the cotton gin property was removed a year ago in Oct. 2017 due to being structurally unsafe and it blocked the natural path of fish migrations. Link with photos:
The Satucket River is 5.5-mile-long river in southeastern Massachusetts within the Taunton River Watershed. It flows generally west from Robbins Pond in East Bridgewater, and into the Matfield River.
The Satucket River drains a watershed of 34.9 square miles and 700 acres of natural ponds.Satucket River, East Bridgewater Mass. It includes parts of Abington, Whitman, Hanson, East Bridgewater and Halifax. The river is rich with iron and has a tint the color of tea. It’s generally slow moving water and relatively shallow, no more than 8 feet deep even in its deepest spots.
It’s undammed now but had one working dam in the past, provided by the Murray Carver Mill. This small dam co-existed with a water wheel and generated electricity to power the cotton gin.
