Even though Providence is often overlooked as larger nearby urban epicenters like New York City and Boston are more often associated with tourism, it's still an excellent city to visit. It's a city that's got a lot going for it. Not only is it the state capital and largest city in Rhode Island, but it's also the third-largest city in New England.

At one time, it was a major hub for both industry and organized criminal activity, but over the years, the city has experienced a bit of a renaissance of sorts. These days the addition of parks, museums, restaurants, bars, clubs, and a variety of other attractions have helped the city to reconnect with it's roots while paving a way forward to the future. The Providence of today bears very little semblance to the one of a hundred years ago, but even so, it's done a good job at preserving its history and architecture in such a way that it still holds some of its original charm and soul.
The majority of Providence's attractions can be found in four distinct neighborhoods. Downcity encompasses the core of the downtown region as well as Waterplace Park, Capitol Hill, and Providence Place Mall.
Federal Hill is a neighborhood due west of downtown and runs along Atwells Avenue. There you will find a vibrant nightlife scene and some of the best Italian cuisines in the city.
College Hill, or The East Side as it is sometimes called, features some of the city's oldest and historically significant homes and architecture. It's also home of Brown University as well as the Rhode Island School of Design. The area is also known for its eclectic shops, restaurants, and lively urban culture.
South Providence has developed a pretty nasty reputation over the decades. It's a neighborhood that has historically been impoverished and crime-laden, but just like any urban setting, as long as you navigate the neighborhood with a little bit of caution, you'll find that it's a great place to go to get away from all of the hustle and bustle of downtown. There are plenty of restaurants, hair salons, banks, pharmacies, supermarkets, and libraries in this area, and downtown is just a quick 15-minute drive away.
In this video, we'll be taking a look at some of the attractions and sights worth checking out next time you're in town. Providence might not be a New York or LA, but it still offers many attractions and destinations worth exploring and visiting.

City of David- The Place Where it all Began
Rediscover Biblical Jerusalem...
The story of the City of David began over 3,000 years ago, when King David left the city of Hebron for a small hilltop city known as Jerusalem, establishing it as the unified capital of the tribes of Israel. Years later, David's son, King Solomon, built the First Temple next to the City of David on top of Mount Moriah, the site of the binding of Isaac, and with it, this hilltop became one of the most important sites in the world.
Today, the story of the City of David continues. Deep underground, the City of David is revealing some of the most exciting archeological finds of the ancient world. While above ground, the city is a vibrant center of activity with a visitor's center that welcomes visitors for an exciting tour to the site where much of the Bible was written.
The tour of the City of David begins with a breathtaking observation point overlooking Biblical Jerusalem which sends visitors 3,800 years back in time to the days of Abraham, when the first foundations of the city were laid. As one moves through the site, one comes in contact with archaeological excavations and thrilling biblical finds that span thousands of years of history including both First and Second Temple Jerusalem. The tour continues underground to the Gihon Spring, the major water source of Jerusalem for over 1,000 years. Visitors seeking adventure can trek through knee deep water in King Hezekiah's 2,700 year old water tunnel, one of the wonders of early engineering. Continuing to the Shiloah Pool, the major water drawing source in biblical times, one reaches the Herodian Road, the ancient thoroughfare that led pilgrims north to the Temple.
We welcome you to come see for yourself the place where it all began..

Dighton, Kansas, is the county seat of Lane County and the only incorporated town. So, obviously, it's a very important place for the people of this area. I stayed in the Dighton Inn and toured all around town to find some really interesting old buildings and talk about how Dighton started as Deighton and then Walton beforer becoming Dighton! I also get a chance to check out the Lane County Historical Museum.

TOP 10 Reasons why PROVIDENCE RHODE ISLAND is the WORST city in the US!
Providence, Rhode Island sucks! let me tell you why...
Rhode Island, a U.S. state in New England, is known for sandy shores and seaside Colonial towns. It's home to several large cities, including Newport, which is famed for sailing and Gilded Age mansions, such as The Breakers. Providence, its capital, is home to Brown University, green Roger Williams Park, landscaped Waterplace Park and Riverwalk, with the famed WaterFire art installation.

These lists are not intended to be used for making life changing decisions. They are just another look at the city. I present both good and bad points of view on this channel. I don’t just make videos that are negative. There are positive videos on the channel too, check them out. They are made from statistical sources made available by government agencies as well as first hand resident experiences. If you are happy living here, I am happy for you. The Great Pyramid of Rhode Island | Apex Building

This is an icon of the state, and a pretty controversial one. Even me saying that it’s an icon will upset some people, since the existence of the pyramid has been seen as a roadblock to the redevelopment of the city of Pawtucket. But it’s still an icon, because it’s the first thing you see when coming into the state from Massachusetts, and the last thing you see when you leave Rhode Island.
Architect Andrew Geller was the mind behind the pyramid, and he always had a unique approach to design. A WWII veteran, he crafted his designs around post-war optimism, even being referred to as the “architect of happiness”. He is mainly known for his creative beach homes built on the New York, new jersey, and Connecticut coastlines. a 1999 New York Times article called the homes eccentrically free-form and eye-grabbing.Another article called the homes “ingenious wooden spacecraft”.
But how did he end up designing a pyramid in Pawtucket Rhode Island?
In the 1960’s Geller worked for Loewy/Snaith, a New York City architecture firm responsible for the revolutionizing the design of shopping centers and department stores across the United States, places like Macy’s, Lord and Taylor, Bloomingdales, AND….you guessed it, Apex Department Stores. They made them easily recognizable, easy to navigate, and visually pleasing.
The design of this pyramid was based on the ziggurats from ancient Mesopotamia. You know, the ones with the stone steps and temples at the top? Yeah, Pawtucket Rhode Island got its own. How amazing is that?
When this place opened over 50 years ago, the hype was real. This place was massive, eye catching, and had everything you needed. It was beloved by the people of Rhode Island, because of course it was. One of our mascots is a big blue big on the side of the highway. For real. So, a pyramid in Pawtucket just makes sense.
Apex was founded as Apex Tire in Providence in 1924. The company opened its first retail outlet, a tire store, in the late 1930s, and opened a full sized department store in Warwick in 1966; additional stores were added in Swansea, Massachusetts, and at the current location in Pawtucket. Apex was actually one of the first retailers in the United States to open an online store - and if you go to that website, it still has almost the exact same design today.
Unfortunately, In 2001, Apex’s days as a three department store chain ended when the Warwick and Swansea stores were closed, and the inventory and staff at the Pawtucket flagship was drastically reduced. These closings came with the national decline in regional department stores, which coincided with increased competition with Target and Walmart.
What’s next for the Apex site?
If negotiations go well, and the city is able to workout a deal with Apex, then the property is planned to be used for a new development called Tidewater landing. This would be a massive event space, with dining, farmers markets, festivals, and hopefully my suggestion - another huge pyramid.
Until that happens, let’s just admire another Rhode Island icon on the side of the highway, a monument to a different time…because it might not be around much longer.
I have a lot of fun researching, exploring, and filming these places - thank you for watching and supporting me.

Providence is the capital city of the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It's home to Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, whose RISD Museum displays American art and silver.
Nearby, 18th- and 19th-century homes line the streets of College Hill. Waterplace Park is the backdrop for the WaterFire art installation, which lights up the surrounding tidal basin most nights in the summer and for special events.
A walking tour of Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island
For more than a century, Federal Hill has been the center of Italian-American culture in Rhode Island. Known locally as The Hill, this culinary hub is home to some of the most storied dining establishments in the Northeast. Atwells Avenue is the main drag. It starts at Broadway, across the street from the Hilton Providence, and continues across Route 6 before merging with Manton Avenue.
The majority of the destination restaurants and specialty stores in Federal Hill are located along Atwells, between Bradford and America Streets. The basil, mozzarella and tomato colors of the Italian flag are painted into this bustling thoroughfare, which is closed to motor vehicles on Friday and Saturday evenings during the summer for Al Fresco on the Hill. There are also some notable bakeries and pizzerias along Spruce, which overlooks the Huntington Expressway.

Here's part 1 of my travels around Lane County, Kansas! With a population of 1,574, it's the 3rd least populated county in Kansas. There is only one incorporated town (the county seat of Dighton). In this video I explore the northern half of the county, finding some really great ghost towns and unincorporated places. There is a rugged beauty to this land, but I imagine was very difficult to settle in the early days.
