Maheshwar is a town, near Khargone city in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh state, in central India. It is located on State Highway-38 (Khargone city-Barwaha- Bandheri Highway),13.5 km east of National Highway 3 (Agra-Mumbai highway) and 91 km from Indore, the commercial capital of the state. The Town lies on the north bank of the Narmada River. It was the kingdom of Chaktavartin Samrat Sahastraarjun, Kartavirya Arjuna a Heheya king. Lately, after many years, it was the capital of the Malwa during the Maratha Holkar reign till 6 January 1818, when the capital was shifted to Indore by Malhar Rao Holkar III.

माण्डू या माण्डवगढ़, धार जिले में स्थित एक प्राचीन शहर है। यह भारत के पश्चिमी मध्य प्रदेश के मालवा क्षेत्र में स्थित है। यह धार शहर से 35 किमी दूर और इंदौर से 98 किमी दूर स्थित है। माण्डव मार्ग पर राइट हैण्ड साइड पर एक काकड़ा खो व्यू स्पॉट है जहां से नीचे विहंगम दृश्य नज़र आता है. यहां नीचे एक झरना बहता है. बारिश में इसे देखा जा सकता है. इसके बारे में कहा जाता है कि यहां एक स्थान से एक राजा ने अपने घोड़े सहित छलांग लगा दी थी और उस पार चला गया था. यहां उस घोड़े की टॉप के निशान भी है.

.....If you are coming from Dhar towards Mandu, Kakra kho comes 5- 6 km before Mandu. There is a huge MP tourism signboard above the road as well on the left side of the road indicating this place and it is hard to miss. There is place available for parking here ( Rs 10). There are two attractions here side by side- one is Kakra Kho and the other is the Ashmadha Fossil Park which is right next to it. Kakra Kho is mainly a viewing place of a waterfall from above facing a deep gorge. The waterfall height is about 250- 300 ft with no possibility of trekking or climbing down to the base. However the views of the gorge are pretty. A shade area has also been put up for visitors to sit and enjoy the view. There are several vendors here selling lemonade and corn on cob ( bhutta). The place gets mildly crowded on weekends esp evening. Worth stopping here for some time to capture beautiful views.some local and seasonal food available in this place to eat, overall nice place. Pertaining to the monsoons the volume of water in the waterfall was at its maximum. And the surrounding hills were very green. The meadows were looking mesmerizing and the cattle grazing there presented a beautiful view. A very nice pit stop I would say if you are visiting in or around the months of monsoon. While on our way to Mandu, this was the first scenic spot which we found as almost all the tourists will stop here to see the Kakra Khoh valley which is really beautiful and picture perfect location. Lot of local delicacies available from the nearby villagers especially sweet corns, guavas and berries. Many lemon soda shops serve tasty lemon drinks. Can give them a try also. Camel rides are also available here. A must stop place on way to Mandu.

Mandu / Mandav or Mandavgad is an ancient city . It is located in the Malwa region of western Madhya Pradesh, India, at 35 km from Dhar city. Mandu, due to its strategic position and natural defences, was an important place with a rich and varied history. It was an important military outpost and its military past can be gauged by the circuit of the battlemented wall, which is nearly 37 km (23 mi) and is punctuated by 12 gateways. The wall encloses a large number of palaces, mosques, Jain temples of 14th century and other buildings. The oldest mosque dates from 1405; the finest is the Jama Masjid or great mosque, a notable example of Pashtun architecture. The marble-domed tomb of this ruler is also magnificent.
Roopmati Pavilion is perched regally on the edge of a 365m precipice overlooking the Nimar Valley and to the south of the Baz Bahadur Palace in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh. Among the plethora of monuments that dot the landscape of the historical city of Mandu in Madhya Pradesh, is the Roopmati Pavilion, an ode to love. The sandstone structure is perched regally on the edge of a 365m precipice overlooking the Nimar Valley and to the south of the Baz Bahadur Palace. It stands as testimony to the legendary tragic love story of Baz Bahadur, the mid-16th century Sultan of Mandu, a great musician, and his queen, Rani Roopmati, a singer of repute.The 72m high fort, Roopmati Pavilion, the southern-most monument in the city, is a magnificent expression of Afghan architecture in sandstone. It is evident that the monument underwent construction in phases during different time periods. The original design, sans pavilions, was built as an observation post for the royal army as a low, large hall with a pair of rooms on each side and a heavy sloping base. A symbol of their undying love, it was later transformed into the abode of Roopmati with a western side extension along the plinth. It was extended so as to enable the queen, who fervently worshipped the Narmada, to see the river and perform religious rites without stepping out of the fort.The basement of the pavilion is characterised by corridors that have several arched openings along their width. The western ledge has a large reservoir from which rainwater collected during the monsoons would be channelled from the roof of the structure to a tank below by means of conduits.However, it is the pavilions on the terrace of the original block that we access via spiral stairs, a later addition, which lends the structure its distinctive allure. The square-based pavilions are crowned with hemispherical domes that are fluted on the interior and exterior.
रूपमती पॉवेलियन, उस काल की सबसे प्रचलित प्रेम गाथा की गवाह है। हालांकि, यहां की मूल संरचना को आर्मी आर्व्जेवेशन प्वाइंट के नाम से जाना जाता है जो मंडप के पश्चिमी हिस्से में बना हुआ है, माना जाता है कि रानी यहीं से अपने प्रेमी को देखा करती थी और उसका प्रेमी नर्मदा नदी के किनारे पर खड़ा होकर उसे निहारता था। आज भी मंडप में प्रेम गाथा के अलावा अन्य आकर्षण भी देखे जा सकते है। इको प्वांइट यहां का मुख्य आकर्षण है जो मंडप से काफी नजदीक स्थित है। पैलेस से नर्मदा के ऊपर से सूर्यास्त का दृश्य देखने में बेहद मनोरम लगता है। रानी रूपमती को राजा बाज बहादुर इतना प्यार करते थे कि रानी रूपमती के दिल की हर बात समझ जाते थे़ राजा बाज बहादुर और रानी रूपमती के प्यार के साक्षी मांडू में 3500 फीट की ऊंचाई पर बना रूपमती पॉवेलियन है़ कहते हैं कि रानी रूपमती नर्मदा नदी को देखे बिना भोजन ग्रहण नहीं करती थीं, इसलिए राजा बाज बहादुर ने रानी रूपमती की इच्छा का ध्यान रखते हुए रानी रूपमती किले का निर्माण करवाया़ रानी रूपमती के किले से नर्मदा नदी नजर आती है़मांडू में देखने योग्य और भी स्थान हैं जैसे कि जहाज़ महल, हिंडोला महल, होशंग शाह का मक़बरा, नीलकंठ शिव मंदिर, वास्तुकला से निर्मित जामी मस्जिद. यही मांडू की ऐतिहासिक धरोहरें हैं.
