Bitter sweet memories of waterfalls in Guinea

My memories of Guinea will always be ones of such beautiful landscapes but also one of pain as my laptop got stolen in Dalaba. Four months into my trip through Africa I lost over 8000 media files from 4 countries but I learned to allow nature heal the wounds of time.

In some ways having this experience when I did made me more alert for the rest of my journey and it reminded me that no matter wherever we go there will always be people with different intentions around us.

I found support from the local community and the beautiful nature in the Fouta Djallon gave me strength to carry on. So get up and go out into the world if something bad happens learn from it but don't let it stop you :-)

Fouta Trekking Adventure in Labe, Guinea

Labé is the main city and administrative capital of the Fouta Djallon region of Guinea. It has a population of about 200000. It is the second largest city in the country after the capital Conakry in term of economic importance. Labé is situated some 450 km northeast of Conakry close to the geographic centre of Guinea.
This mountain range of surrealistic reliefs which height goes between 700 and 1500 meters, is the source of some of the big rivers in Western Africa, as the Gambia, the Bafing (Senegal), the Bakoy, the Koliba, the Kolentè (Grand Scarcies), Kaba (Little Scarcies), or the Konkouré.

In addition Fouta Djalon's oriental hillsides feed several tributaries of the Niger River; and the foothills placed to the south-east (close to the border with Sierra Leone) of this mountainous chain, known as Guinea Highlands shelter the source of the river Niger.

Fouta Djallon with its agreeable climate, majestic landscapes, countless waterfalls, impressive cannons, natural swimming pools for refreshing yourself, some rocky capricious formations, spectacular granite cliffs, it is an indispensable region in a West Africa trip for hiking lovers, since it offers many treks.

Some of the best villages to start visiting the Fouta Djallon region are Mali Yemberem, Labe, Ainguel, Doucki or Dalaba. From theses villages we can make great walks of one day or more, visiting canyons, waterfalls, caves, rivers and traditional villages.

Les Cascades De La Soumba in Dubreka, Guinea

Picturesque and surrounded by wild nature, Les Cascades De La Soumba features several natural pools ideal for refreshing dips. Consider visiting during the rainy season, since the waterfalls can become dry between January and March.
Guinea is called the Switzerland of Africa, with its lofty mountains and high plateaus, plus a temperate climate. The highest peaks are Mount Loura at Mali Ville (1515 m) and Mount Tinka near Dalaba (1425m). They also call it the Water Tower of Western Africa because many rivers take their origin (River Gambie, Senegal, Niger, etc.) from it. These rivers and churning rapids, hurtling down the mountains create beautiful waterfalls.

GUINEA CONAKRY: Crashs in the FOUTA DJALLON region & Kambadaga waterfalls // EPS. 8

Crashs, waterfalls, and challenging roads: Welcome to the Fouta Djallon region in Guinea - one of my favorite places on this trip so far!

Each country I ever visited I fell in love with – even if it was only for a short minute. But Guinea-Conakry made me fall in love each single second I stayed. Why? Because of its challenges. But also because of its breathtaking beauty, and its untouched nature.

After crossing the border of Guinea-Bissau to Guinea-Conakry at the border post Fulamory, there was already the first surprise waiting: a hand-pulled ferry that brought us over the river. Little did we know that the real challenges were still waiting: A very bad, sandy road - which ended up in two crashs.

The next days we headed torwards Labé, the capital of the region Fouta Djallon. The highlands of Fouta Djallon are often called the watertower - or in French: 'le chateau d'eau' , of West Africa. Sometimes people as well refer to the region as the 'Switzerland of West Africa'. We found out why on a excursion to Kambadaga waterfalls.
Join the journey in through the Fouta Djallon region of Guinea and find out, how it feels to ride in 40+ degrees, on sandy roads or when standing on a majestic waterfall!

//NOTE: videos were recorded before I had a Youtube Channel - initially used for my Instagram stories. That's the reason for the close ups of my face - they were recorded vertically. I still decided to use them - that's the authentic footage I have and I can't change that anymore. Remember: I just started out with filming and cutting - its a learning curve and far from perfect! If you mind seeing my nose hair every now and then, I can highly recommend you to skip this part of the journey and join again when I will publish my next trips after the country Benin with hopefully improved footage!

Guinée Conakry compte environ 13 millions d’habitants.
