Is an administrative subdivision (Tehsil) of Okara District in the Punjab province of Pakistan, Headquartered at the city of Depalpur. Depalpur Tehsile is known as the Largest Tehsil of Pakistan. And also include in the top 10 Tehsiles of Asia.

The capital Pakpattan is located about 169 km from Lahore and 205 km from Multan. The district is bounded to the northwest by Sahiwal District, to the north by Okara District, to the southeast by the Sutlej River and Bahawalnagar District, and to the southwest by Vehari District.
Pakpattan is the city of the great Saint Baba Farid of Chisti. The original name of Pakpattan was Ajodhan. It was renamed Pakpattan after it was used for the first time by Saint Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Ganj Shakar.
Pakpattan is the 48th-most-populous city in Pakistan (176,693). The top 10 most populous cities in Pakistan are: Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Peshawar, Multan, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Quetta.
Pakpattan was founded as a village by the name of Ajodhan. Ajodhan was the location of a ferry service across the Sutlej River that rendered it an important part of the ancient trade routes that connected Multan to Delhi. Given its position on the flat plains of Punjab, Ajodhan was vulnerable to waves of invasions from Central Asia that began in the late 10th century. It was captured by Sebüktegin in 977–78 CE and by Ibrahim Ghaznavi in 1079–80.

Depalpur has a great historic past and is a very ancient town. The fortified town of Dipalpur is built on an old Kushan site (40 A.D. to 172 A.D.). The fortifications themselves are very ancient; though it is impossible determine their dates. All that can be said is that they are older than the visitation of Timur in 1398 A.D. From the time of Alexander to the time of Mahmud Ghaznavi, there were no found accounts of Dipalpur. According to the Gazetteer of 1935, the town was claimed to be founded by Sri Chand Khanna it was called Sri Nagar at that time, The modern name is claimed to have been named by Raja Deva Pala after he re-founded the town.

According to Ibnash Chandra Das, about 2,000 years ago, Depalpur was a habitat of Aryans( his book is Rig-Vedic India). He is a Bengali historian. From the time of Alexander to the time of Mehmood Ghaznavi, no account of Depalpur is, however, available. In older times, Depalpur fell on the way to Delhi and, as such, was considered to be a place where an invader could be engaged.

Dipalpur, therefore, was one of the 3 lines of defense; the other two begin Uch Sharif, Samana, and Hansi. Ain-i-Akbari reveals that the militia force at Dipalpur, during the reign of Abul Fazal, consisted of 5,210 mounted Horsemen and 53,300 infantry. In the 14th Century, Firuz Shah Tughlaq regularly visited this place. It is also believed that he built a large Mosque outside the city, which no longer remains. At the time of Timur’s invasion, Depalpur was second to Multan in size and importance. The town, it is believed may have been deserted due to Taimurs’s invasion and drying up old Beas River.[4] The Mughal Emperor Akbar, along with his son Saleem (Jahangir) along with their royal entourage, stayed in Dipalpur when he came to pay homage to Fariduddin Ganjshakar in 1578. Akbar named the corridor Bari Doab by combining the syllables of the names of the two rivers, Beas and Ravi River, that bounded the area.
