Isakhel is an important town located in the west of Mianwali District. It is named after (Tarna to Isa Khan), a Niazi chief. Until November 1901 Isa Khel was the tehsil headquarters of Bannu District. Isakhel is located on the Mianwali-Tank road. The population of Isakhel is well educated. There are many public and private schools and colleges in Isakhel. There are also a number of private hospitals and clinics. A number of social welfare institutions are also working in this town.

Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi a famous Pakistani classical singer. He was born in a family of musicians in the village of Esakhel, in the district of Khushab, Punjab in 1928. In 1960, he began to record music for Radio Pakistan. Esakhelvi was also a poet and was awarded the title of Ustaad.
Attaullah Khan is from district Mianwali and his hometown is Esakhel. He received his early education from Esakhel. He is traditionally considered a Saraiki artist.
