Places to see in ( Exeter - UK )
Exeter is an ancient city on the River Exe in southwest England. Dating back to the Roman era, the Exeter City Walls surround its centre and Gothic Exeter Cathedral. Exeter Castle, a Norman landmark, overlooks leafy Northernhay and Rougemont Gardens. To their west, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) displays fine art and costumes. The vaulted, medieval Underground Passages snake beneath the city.
Exeter lies within the county of Devon, of which it is the county town as well as the home of Devon County Council. Currently, the administrative area has the status of a non-metropolitan district and is therefore under the administration of the County Council (there was a plan to grant the city unitary authority status, although this was scrapped under the 2010 coalition government). The city is on the River Exe about 37 miles (60 km) northeast of Plymouth and 70 miles (110 km) southwest of Bristol.
Exeter was the most south-westerly Roman fortified settlement in Britain, although there is evidence a Cornish tribe existed in Exeter before the Roman invasion. Exeter became a religious centre during the Middle Ages and into the Tudor times: Exeter Cathedral, founded in the mid 11th century, became Anglican during the 16th-century English Reformation. During the late 19th century, Exeter became an affluent centre for the wool trade, although by the First World War the city was in decline. After the Second World War, much of the city centre was rebuilt and is now considered to be a centre for modern business and tourism in Devon and Cornwall.
The M5 motorway to Bristol and Exeter starts at Birmingham, and connects at Bristol with the M4 to London and South Wales. Exeter's main operator of local buses is Stagecoach South West, which operates most of the services in the city. Dartline is a minor operator in the City. Exeter is considered to be a rail hub within the south-west and is linked to most branch lines in Devon, including to Paignton, Exmouth, Barnstaple and Okehampton (by a special service). Exeter International Airport lies east of the city, and the local airline, previously called Jersey European and British European but now known as Flybe . The Exeter Canal also known as the Exeter Ship Canal was first completed in about 1566.

‘Random Journeys: New Zealand’ by Trevor Cree. (eBook £1.99 + VAT) (Non-Fiction)
‘The concept of travelling in a random manner is not new but what if the 5, 10 or 50 places to be visited have been chosen by drawing letters of the alphabet from a hat to identify the first letters of each location? And then and only then are the actual place names revealed and their location on the map identified. And to add a necessary degree of discipline each and every place must be visited however uninteresting or remote it may seem to be. No convenient substitutions allowed, no deletions, no ifs or buts. A recipe for disaster surely? At least a waste of precious time and precious funds?’

‘Track’ by Trevor Cree. (eBook £1.99 + VAT) (Fiction)
‘Every year the major walking tracks of New Zealand act as a magnet to thousands of visitors from all corners of the world. A large proportion of those visitors will be backpackers in their early twenties who are testing their adult wings for the very first time. Others may be older and some may be trying to solve the riddle of their lives. And prime among the backpackers are those who travel alone. Sometimes their paths interact with each other in unexpected ways and strangers may become friends, lovers and even victims in an environment which can show its many faces within a single day. `
Set against the backdrop of the majestic Southern Alps 'Track' follows the story of three such people and the relic of an earlier era, Te Rana. Te Rana of One Thousand Battles. And the enemy that they all face is the power of nature itself.’

#DiscoveringDevon, Exeter Cathedral, U.k
The Cathedral of St Peter, to give it its full name, is located on the site of a Roman army camp and its origins date back to 1050 when the Bishop of Crediton and St Germans moved to Exeter. Today's cathedral owes its Gothic style to Bishop Bronscon who started rebuilding work around 1290.
Re uploaded due to copyright issues so hope that you enjoy our little video showing the beautiful history behind the fantastic Exeter Cathedral has to offer.
map of South West England
South West England is one of nine official regions of England. It consists of the counties of Bristol, Cornwall (including the Isles of Scilly), Dorset, Devon, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire. Large cities and towns in the region include Bristol, Bournemouth, Cheltenham, Exeter, Gloucester, Plymouth and Swindon. It is geographically the largest of the nine regions of England covering 9,200 square miles (23,800 km2), but the third-least populous, with approximately five million residents.
The region includes the West Country and much of the ancient kingdom of Wessex. It includes two entire national parks, Dartmoor and Exmoor (a small part of the New Forest is also within the region); and four World Heritage Sites: Stonehenge, the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape, the Jurassic Coast and the City of Bath. The northern part of Gloucestershire, near Chipping Campden, is as close to the Scottish border as it is to the tip of Cornwall. The region has by far the longest coastline of any English region.
Following the abolition of the South West Regional Assembly in 2008 and Government Office in 2011, South West Councils provide local government coordination in the region. Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and Bath and North East Somerset are part of the West of England Combined Authority.
The region is known for its rich folklore, including the legend of King Arthur and Glastonbury Tor, as well as its traditions and customs. Cornwall has its own language, Cornish, and some regard it as a Celtic nation. The South West is known for Cheddar cheese, which originated in the Somerset village of Cheddar; Devon cream teas, crabs, Cornish pasties, and cider. It is home to the Eden Project, Aardman Animations, the Glastonbury Festival, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, trip hop music and Cornwall's surfing beaches. The region has also been home to some of Britain's most renowned writers, including Daphne du Maurier, Agatha Christie and Enid Blyton, all of whom set many of their works here, and the South West is also the location of Thomas Hardy's Wessex, the setting for many of his best-known novels.Map Ceremonial county Shire county / unitary Districts

South West Regional Assembly
Durdle Door in Dorset is part of the Jurassic Coast, England's only natural World Heritage Site.
Although referendums had been planned on whether elected assemblies should be set up in some of the regions, none was planned in the South West. The South West Regional Assembly (SWRA) was the regional assembly for the South West region, established in 1999. It was based in Exeter and Taunton. The SWRA was a partnership of councillors from all local authorities in the region and representatives of various sectors with a role in the region's economic, social and environmental well-being. There was much opposition to the formation of the SWRA with critics saying it was an unelected unrepresentative and unaccountable quango. The Regional Assembly was wound up in May 2009, and its functions taken on by the Strategic Leaders' Board (SLB) of South West Councils. #swengland #swenglandmap #southwestenglandmap

Places to see in ( Ottery St Mary - UK )
Ottery St Mary, known as Ottery, is a town and civil parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England, on the River Otter, about 10 miles east of Exeter on the B3174. At the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the villages of West Hill, Metcombe, Fairmile, Alfington, Tipton St John and Wiggaton, had a population of 7,692. The population of the urban area alone at the 2011 census was 4,898. There are two electoral wards in Ottery (Rural & Town). The total population of both wards, including the adjacent civil parish of Aylesbeare, at the above census was 9,022. Ottery is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as 'Otri' and 'Otrei'. 'Oteri Sancte Marie' is first mentioned in 1242. The town takes its name from the River Otter on which it stands, the river taking its name from the animal. The 'St Mary' element refers to the fact that the town belonged to the church of St Mary in Rouen in 1086.
The town was the birthplace of the Romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, where his father, the Reverend John Coleridge, was a vicar. The diplomat Sir Ernest Satow spent his retirement (1906–29) here at a house called Beaumont, which still stands. Sir Ernest was buried in the churchyard; there is a commemorative plaque to him in the church.
Ottery's notable buildings include the Tumbling Weir and St Mary's church. The town is the site of The King's School, now a comprehensive school, a former grammar school founded in 1545 by Henry VIII, and Ottery St Mary Primary School.
The town as it now stands, comprises of several independent shops, mainly in Mill Street, Silver Street and Yonder Street. An area known as 'The Square', is the heart of Ottery St Mary. There are pubs, restaurants, coffee and tea rooms. Ottery provides services, employment and a wide range of shopping for local residents as well as visitors from nearby villages, towns and often visitors coming from further afield and abroad. Historical Features are within walking distance from parking areas allowing residents and visitors to enjoy both history and shopping together.
Until 1967 the town was served by Ottery St Mary railway station, which was closed under the Beeching Axe. The line ran from Sidmouth Junction on the main line from Exeter to Waterloo to the north of Ottery and to Sidmouth and Exmouth to the south. The line split just south of Tipton St John, near the Bowd Inn. The first line to go was the Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton line, which originally connected to the Exeter line. Subsequently the line from Sidmouth to Sidmouth Junction was closed under Beeching. For many years the path of the railway, with the rails removed, remained in place, with evidence of the railway gates at places such as north of Cadhay Bridge.
( Ottery St Mary - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Ottery St Mary . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Ottery St Mary - UK

Woolacombe is a seaside resort on the coast of North Devon, England, which lies at the mouth of a valley (or 'combe') in the parish of Mortehoe. The beach is 2 miles (3.2 km) long, sandy, gently sloping and faces the Atlantic Ocean near the western limit of the Bristol Channel.
Woolacombe is a popular destination for surfing and family holidays and is part of the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The beach has been managed by Parkin Estates Ltd since the 1970s and has over the years been recognised as one of the best beaches in Europe. It won the title of Britain's Best Beach in the Coast Magazine Awards 2012 and was awarded the same prize of Britain's Best Beach in 2015 by TripAdvisor, also ranking in their polls as 4th in Europe and 13th best in the world.
The beach water quality is monitored regularly by the Environment Agency and was rated excellent from 2016 to 2020.
The winter population is around 1,000 but during the summer large numbers of people come to the village for their holidays, including for surfing. There are many hotels, holiday flats, holiday parks, campsites and bed and breakfast establishments, and most of the entertainment opportunities are aimed at tourists. The village is served by a local independent pharmacy and a satellite doctors surgery. There is a crazy golf course in the centre of the village, which formerly featured North Devon landmarks for the holes, with model buildings constructed from the types of stone found in the local area, and was rebuilt as a pirate-themed crazy golf course in 2010.
The South West Coast Path runs through the village, with access to the North Devon coast, including the walk out to and around Morte Point. There are several establishments in the area that provide pony trekking, and riding along Woolacombe Sands.
