Western Australia is also famous for its distinctive flora and fauna - the result of its isolation from the rest of the continent by an enormous belt of desert.

Wish you were here xoxo 📍 #Cottesloe, Perth (Boorloo) #WAtheDreamState

Home to one of Western Australia's most iconic beaches, Cottesloe is famous for its swimming, surfing, Indian Ocean sunsets, lively Sunday sessions, and world-class annual sculpture park exhibition. From the city, it's a 15-minute drive, or you can catch a train on the Fremantle Line, hop off at Cottesloe station and walk eastward to Cottesloe's retail hub, or cross the tracks and head west to the beach.

On weekends during summer, the 'Cott Cat' shuttle bus runs regularly between the railway and the water. Swimmers, kite surfers, and bodyboarders adore Cottesloe Beach for its crystal clear water and consistent swell, while its rocks and reefs are ideal for snorkelling. For a lazy afternoon picnic, find the perfect spot under the stands of majestic Norfolk Pines that cast cool shade across the foreshore's terraced lawns. You'll find many stylish eateries along and around Marine Parade, with sweeping ocean views. Book a table for dinner and enjoy one of the finest sunsets in the world. Or, for more casual fare, grab some fish and chips, pick your spot along the shore, and watch the sun dip into the sea.

By day, stroll into the shopping heart of Cottesloe and treat yourself to a spree in the 'village' taking in the high-end and trendy boutiques along Napoleon and Station Streets. Then enjoy lunch at the fresh food market, an intimate café, or a fine dining restaurant. By night, the Indian Oceanside pubs and bars are abuzz every evening and host some of the best Sunday sessions in Perth, with live music and DJs. If you're staying overnight, Cottesloe offers plenty of hotels, motels, apartments, and houses stays as well as hostels for budget-conscious travellers.

Guide to Perth’s Best Beaches: Cottesloe - City Beach - Mettams Pool: Australia Travel Guide

LIFE in PERTH is a BEACH!

If you are looking for unique things to do in Perth then head to the Beach! Perth Western Australia has over 124 Kilometre of metropolitan coastline, so whether you are after swimming, snorkelling, fishing, boating, surfing, bodyboarding, walking, or simply having a picnic there is always a beach waiting for you.
This video takes you to some of my favourite inner-city beaches in Perth that are within 30 minutes away from Perth CBD/ and is also accessible by public transport.

1. Cottesloe Beach (25 minutes away)

Voted Australia's favourite beach in recent years because of its feathery soft blonde sand, aquamarine ocean, grassy parks and nearby restaurants. In March of each year the Cottesloe Beach is transformed into an outdoor gallery of giant art installations at Sculpture by the sea. Admission is free and allows visitors to wander around and immerse in themselves in the impressive art exhibit.

Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club also patrols the northern side of the beach for 1.5km in the summer months.

And if you are not into swimming or snorkelling but still wanted to go to the beach then are other activities for you to enjoy like going to the Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA) located at Hillary's Boat Harbour where you will discover hundreds of marine species most of which are only found in the Western Australia's unique coastline.
You will find restaurants, cafés, speciality shops, boutiques, a fun park and a marina.
