Top 3 Hikes Near Cortina d'Ampezzo | Dolomites Travel Guide
In this video we'll guide you through the top 3 hikes near the beautiful town of Cortina d'Ampezzo! We start at the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen), then Cadini di Misurina where you find the Towers of Mordor, and end with Lago di Sorapis with its unique blue waters. Use this as your hiking guide through the Dolomites mountains! Dolomites travel guide and vlog. #dolomites #italy #travelguide
ULTIMATE Dolomites itinerary:
📖
This is the start of the most amazing mountain experience of our lives. In two days, we’ll show you guys how crazy beautiful Northern Italy is by doing three drastically different hikes that blew. Our. Minds.
We woke up bright and early and drove through forests and mountains to arrive at our first destination: the Tre Cime di Lavaredo trailhead. The vast sunrise colours completely took our breath away and we jumped right of our rental car to spend half an hour just admiring the 360-degree view of the mountain ranges, the clouds below us and the gorgeous sky on fire. Before we even started the hike we were greeted with a view we couldn’t get enough of!
The Tre Cime loop is one of the Dolomites’ most popular hikes, known for its elevation and the unique peaks called the three chimneys. Our first morning in Italy was off to an astounding start!
Our second hike started from the same point that we started Tre Cime at the Rifugio Auronzo but headed away from the three chimney peaks. We did this on the same day as it was a short there-and-back hike to this insane viewpoint of the Towers of Mordor. This one is called the Cadini di Misurina and it definitely had a few spots that tested our fear of heights.
The next morning, we woke up to a foggy atmosphere but still headed to our third hike which is actually right between the town of Cortina and Tre Cime. This is the trail to Lago di Sorapis, a glacial lake known for its bright aqua blue colour and the mountain peak in front of it. But this hike, for us, was not highlighted by our final point but by the conditions we were graced with along the way.

TOP 3 Circular HIKES in the DOLOMITES Italy
Download the GPX tracks of the hikes!
If you want to support the channel and my adventures :-)
Dolomites are one of my favourite mountain areas, and the best way to discover them is HIKING!
In this video I'm giving you 3 advices about circular hikes (or round trips, loops, whatever..) to do in the Dolomites.
NOTE: you need to have experience with hiking to complete these trails.
The difficulty is increasing, the first one is relatively simple (but still 900m elevation gain which is no joke), the second one is intermediate and the third one is VERY HARD. I highly suggest you to split the itinerary in two days and stopping at one of the huts you find on the trail (booking required).
Croda da Lago Circuit:
Starting from the road from Cortina D'Ampezzo and Passo Giau (Ponte Ru Curto), you will follow the wonderful Val Formin till Forcella Rossa, then you will cross the Mondeval Plateau to reach Forcella Ambrizzola, Lago Federa, and back to the parking lot. Amazing views of Pelmo, Antelao, Tofane, Sorapis and Croda da Lago of course.
Tre Cime/Croda dei Toni:
Starting from Val Fiscalina (after Moso, Pustertal) you will turn right at rifugio fondovalle, and after a couple hours you will reach Rifugio Locatelli, in front of the spectacular Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen). Then you will pass below Monte Paterno and will make it to Rifugio Pian di Cengia, then Rifugio Zsigmondy with an incredible view of Croda dei Toni, and then back to Val Fiscalina.
Monte Civetta Circuit:
Starting from Palafavera, Val di Zoldo, You will reach Malga Pioda and then Rifugio Coldai. You will turn left and follow the amazing Sentiero Tivan, with Civetta on your right and Val di Zoldo (amazing Pelmo) on the left. The trail goes up to Forcella delle Sasse, and then goes down till Rifugio Vazzoler. You will keep hiking around Civetta and you will make it to Rifugio Tissi. Spectacular spot to spend the night. Then following the Western face of civetta you will reach Lago Coldai and then finish the loop hiking back down to Palafavera.

Top 4 Lakes Near Cortina d'Ampezzo + Travel To Ortisei | Dolomites Travel Guide
In this video we'll explore the top 4 lakes near Cortina d'Ampezzo as well as the beautiful sights along the way to Ortisei! The best lakes we choose to be a part of this video are Lago di Braies, Lago di Dobbiaco, Lake Misurina, and Lago di Landro. We also share with you guys some travel tips for Dolomiti including the famous row boat at Braies. Enjoy the cinematic sequences of this Dolomites Travel Vlog in 4k! #dolomites #italy #travelguide
ULTIMATE Dolomites itinerary:
📖
We had to start off with a bang by visiting the most famous lake in the whole region: Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee). This was our first moment visiting the South Tyrol region, where both Italian and German, as well as Ladin, are spoken throughout.
Lago di Braies was the calmest lake we have ever seen! And one of the most crowded lakes at the early hour of 7am. A must-do activity at Lago di Braies is taking out a traditional row boat out onto the water to immerse yourself in the green-blue water and surrounding peaks.
Lago di Dobbiaco (Toblacher See) was the next gorgeous lake on the map where the water was so clear that you could see the green algae wade calmly as the ducks swam across! Making your way south down the same road SS51 got us to the shallow and vibrant turquoise Lago di Landro (Dürrensee), and finally the deep blue Lago di Misurina enveloped by mountains and guesthouses!

🚘 Passo Gardena: A 24-minute drive from Ortisei, it offers a scenic route with amazing views.
🏔 Adolf Munkel trail: The hike starts in Zannes and, depending on the route chosen and fitness level, can take up to 4 hours and 30 minutes. Take your time and enjoy the views; it’s truly one of the best spots to see.
🇮🇹 Day 2:
🏔️ Alpe di Siusi: Take the cable car from Urtijëi/Ortisei to reach Europe’s largest high-altitude Alpine meadow.Enjoy walking around or take a scenic carriage ride.
🏔️Castelrotto: A charming village with stunning views.
🇮🇹 Day 3:
🏔 Lago di Braies: A beautiful blue mountain lake. As it’s a popular destination, it can get crowded. You can hike around the lake or rent a boat. Access by car requires purchasing an access permit online in advance, as the daily number of tourists is limited.
🇮🇹 Day 4:
🏔 Lago di Sorapis: This hike begins at Misurina Passo Tre Croci and offers stunning scenery. Some sections may be challenging for those with a fear of heights, and there are slippery rocks, so hiking shoes are recommended. Expect crowds, especially around noon.
🏔 Cinque Torri: A short hike with gorgeous views, can be reached by chairlift. Don’t miss the open-air World War 1 museum.
📍 We stayed in Colfosco, near Corvara and most of the locations were quite far. If you prefer not to drive as much, consider staying in two locations. We recommend Ortisei for its proximity to Seceda, Adolf Munkel trail, and Alpe di Siusi, and Cortina d’Ampezzo for the other locations.

We follow the signs to the Gostner Hut, where we’ll have our first course with he Sasso Group mountains on one side and the Sciliar or Schlern on the other. Places to see in ( Cortina d'Ampezzo - Italy )
Cortina d’Ampezzo is a ski resort in northern Italy. It’s part of the Dolomiti Superski area, which encompasses the Falzarego Pass, with its downhill runs. Sites from the 1956 Winter Games held in Cortina include the Ice Stadium, the Eugenio Monti bobsleigh run and the disused ski jump Trampolino Olimpico Italia. The Tofane area is the site of a Women’s Ski World Cup race and Cortina Snow Park for jumps and tricks.
Cortina d'Ampezzo commonly referred to as Cortina, is a town and comune in the heart of the southern (Dolomitic) Alps in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. Situated on the Boite river, in an alpine valley, it is a winter sport resort known for its skiing trails, scenery, accommodation, shops and après-ski scene, and for its jet set and aristocratic European crowd.
In the Middle Ages Ampezzo fell under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Aquileia and of the Holy Roman Empire. In 1420 it was conquered by the Republic of Venice. It then spent much of its history under Austrian rule, briefly undergoing some territorial changes under Napoleon, before being returned to Austria, who held it until 1918. From the nineteenth century, Ampezzo became a notable regional centre for crafts.
The local handmade products were appreciated by early British and German holidaymakers as tourism emerged late nineteenth century. Among the specializations of the town were crafting wood for furniture, the production of tiled stoves and iron, copper and glass items. Today, the local economy thrives on tourism, particularly during the winter season, when the population of the town typically increases from about 7,000 to 40,000. The Basilica Minore dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo was built between 1769 and 1775 on the site of two former thirteenth and sixteenth-century churches; it is home to the parish and the deanery of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The town also contains the Rinaldo Zardini Palaeontology Museum, established in 1975, the Mario Rimoldi Modern Art Museum, and the Regole of Ampezzo Ethnographic Museum.
Although Cortina was unable to go ahead with the scheduled 1944 Winter Olympics because of World War II, it hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956 and subsequently a number of world winter-sports events. The town is home to SG Cortina, a top league professional ice hockey team, and Cortina is also the start and end point of the annual Dolomites Gold Cup Race. Several films have been shot in the town, mostly notably The Pink Panther (1963), For Your Eyes Only (1981) and Cliffhanger (1993). Every year, from the end of July to early August, Cortina hosts the Dino Ciani Festival and Academy, which attracts pianists from around the world.
Near the bridge on the Bigontina River is the Town Hall, a palace in the Tyrolean style. Piazza Venezia houses several landmarks. The Ciasa de ra Regoles is one of the more important legal buildings in Cortina, where the regolieri — a council for the local villages that stood before the town merged — trained the community and gave administrative orders. It was at one time the center of Ampezzo's administration. Currently, it contains the offices of Comunanza Regole and the Modern Art Museum Mario Rimoldi. The building also contains the office of the Scuola Sci Cortina, Cortina's skiing school.
