Scotland Travel Vlog - day 12, Part 1 | Colinton Station & Tunnel, Spylaw park drone footage

30.7.22
Edinburgh day 12
This was my last full day at Edinburgh so I spent it by taking a 40min bus to Colinton tunnel which is full by some amazing wall art. Since in the area I also spent some time at Spylaw park taking some drone footage. For lunch, I stopped at seeds for the soul, a fully vegan resturant and ordered delicious vegan chicken salad along with Kalmari made from forest mushrooms and a biscoff chocolate drink. On my way back to the hotel I also took a vegan brownie for dinner from the Hula Juice Bar.

Colinton Tunnel #art

Set in Colinton Village, Edinburgh lies a gem of an artwork, nestled between everyday living and the nature of the River of Leith. You can walk through any day, any time and enjoy the amazing accomplishment by Chris Rutherford and his project team.

The tunnel-come-mural, a former trainline, is designed around a Robert Louis Stevenson poem, From a Railway Carriage and brings the surrounding art work to life.

An Old Railway Tunnel in UK | Mural Art | Edinburgh Walks | Water Of Leith Walkway | Finding Wonders

The Colinton Tunnel was completed in 1874 as part of the expansion of then Caledonian Railway Company. On the 4th December 1967, all services ceased as the line closed, due to new bus and tram services. Shortly after this, the Colinton Tunnel was also closed and bricked up at both sides. After 13 years, when the work began of the Water of Leith Walkway in 1980, the tunnel was reopened but this time not for railways but for the walkway.
It was re-painted and the lights were installed. Landscape Architects, Ian Temple and Charlotte Cottingham, created the 1st mural here. By 2017, the Tunnel had fallen into serious disrepair. Later in 2019 the work on the new mural was started and after being paused due to pandemic and bad winter finally it completed lately.

The Corstorphine Hill Tower, Corstorphine, Edinburgh

A wee video, shot on my phone, of my visit to Corstorphine Hill Tower in Edinburgh. The quality isn't great, but I thought it might be worth posting anyway, as I'm keen to show places in Edinburgh that aren't often visited.

For more of our 'Must-See' places in Scotland visit

I used to visit Corstorphine hill a lot when I was a kid and have many fond memories of exploring it during summer holidays. Those were the days when everything was a great adventure. However, I'd never been up the tower and I jumped at the chance to visit on the Edinburgh Doors Open Day a couple of years ago. As far as I can gather, the tower is open every Sunday from June to September, but please check this on the Friends of Corstorphine Hill website mentioned below.

Corstorphine Hill Tower is a memorial to Sir Walter Scott and is 145 years old. It's looked after by the City of Edinburgh Council and the Friends of Corstorphine Hill charity ( The tower is 531 feet high and offers fantastic 360 degree views of Edinburgh, The Pentland Hills, the Fife Coast and the Firth of Forth Estuary. It's sometimes also known as Clermiston Tower, or the Scott Tower, in memory of Sir Walter Scott.

Corstorphine Hill itself is a local nature reserve and a Regionally Important Geological Site and well worth exploring. If you get a chance it's well worth taking a 10 minute walk from the tower to admire the amazing views of the city and Edinburgh Castle from the Rest & Be Thankful.

Colinton Station & Tunnel Edinburgh

An abandoned railway tunnel in Edinburgh is being transformed by the biggest mural of its kind in Scotland as part of a community project.

The Colinton Tunnel, which was built in the 1800s, formed part of the Balerno branch railway line from Slateford to Balerno until it was closed in 1967.

Since then the tunnel has become rundown and it is poorly lit.

Now a campaign group, the Colinton Tunnel Project, has brought a new lease of life to the structure.

Free Stay in Edinburgh: What to Do in Scotland's Capital

We scored a free stay in one of our favorite cities in the world. We love Edinburgh so much we had to break it in two parts. In part 1, we take you to some of the best spots in Edinburgh Scotland, the museums! The best museums in Edinburgh are all easily accessed in one day by foot, and they are some of the most beautiful buildings. One of the best things to do in Edinburgh is just to walk the street and enjoy the incredible architecture. There is always live bagpipe players and fun things going on in the street. There's always something to see. It's a small city, with a big vibe and a big heart, and we love every bit of it! Edinburgh is gorgeous, historically interesting, and the Scots are super friendly folks.

Pentland Hills - Edinburgh Photography Day Trip | Scottish Peaks | Peaceful Escape from Reality

The Pentland Hills are a range of hills southwest of Edinburgh, Scotland. The range is around 20 miles [30 km] in length, and runs southwest from Edinburgh towards Biggar and upper Clydesdale.

About my Trip
This trip was done last October, the 18th, on my birthday as a peaceful day trip out and about exploring Pentland Hills. Since it was done during winter I had as much as little time to explore the whole area, I covered as much as I could till the daylight lasted. I live in Glasgow so in order to reach the place, I had to take the Glasgow-Edinburgh Citylink 900 and a small walk till Princess St and then a bus ride on No.4 towards Hillend. The walk starts right where the bus stops at Hillend, there's a little map to guide you through at the beginning of the route. Then it's just you and the peaks and the views it has to offer. I believe that I managed to capture the essence of this place in a way that it felt to me at the time, which was a peaceful escape place from all the stress and mess of a city life. As a landscape photographer I got to shoot some serene spots throughout my time there and also got an opportunity to get a shot of the famous Highland Coos of Scotland. I sure did enjoy the day and hope this video could help bring a peace of mind to all and encourage anyone to visit this place to experience the beauty is possess.
