Coatzacoalcos (Coatzacoalco en náhuatl, Niniashi en zapoteco y Puertu en popoluca) es una ciudad y puerto del estado de Veracruz, ubicado en la zona Sur del estado, en la llamada Región Olmeca y/o Región del Istmo de Tehuantepec, en su extremo norte. Colinda al Norte con el Golfo de México, al Noroeste con la Región de la Sierra de Los Tuxtlas, al Sur con los Municipios de Cosoleacaque y Minatitlán, al Este con el Municipio de Agua Dulce y al Sureste con el Municipio de Nanchital, estos últimos también de la región Olmeca-Istmo.
Coatzacoalcos significa en náhuatl ‘lugar donde se esconde la serpiente’. Su nombre se debe a una antigua leyenda que cuenta que en el año 947,6 Quetzalcóatl llegó a esta ciudad y a bordo de una balsa navegó a través del río hasta perderse en el horizonte bajo promesa de regresar un día. Los seguidores de Quetzalcóatl se quedaron en ese lugar esperando el retorno de su líder, así es como aparecieron los primeros asentamientos en la región.
En algún lugar de la gran extensión de terreno comprendido entre el río Coatzacoalcos e Ixhuatlán del Sureste, entre los ríos Teapa y San Antonio, probablemente estuvo el poblado indígena que los historiadores de la conquista dicen haber conocido, y que se llama Guazaqualco o Huazaqualco. Es también la mayor zona metropolitana del sur de Veracruz y está ubicada estratégicamente al norte del Istmo de Tehuantepec.
Es la ciudad más importante y desarrollada del sur de Veracruz y del Istmo de Tehuantepec. Su desarrollo se ha generado por el establecimiento del puerto de altura y por el auge de los complejos petroquímicos de Pajaritos, Morelos y Cangrejera.

Maybe they were legit but I decided to run as many as I could anyways. It's nice to see the Gulf of Mexico again and have water on my left for a change.

The Road to Coatzacoalcos | SolarButterfly Tour
Yesterday brought us an unexpected adventure! Departing from San Andrés Tuxtla, our journey unfolded with scenic landscapes—lakes, charming towns, and glimpses of the Mexican jungle.
Yet, the real excitement began on a steep hill when our Tesla decided to take a break, overheating multiple times, leaving us temporarily stuck. Undeterred, we sought help from a nearby village, where fortune favored us. A kind soul with a powerful vehicle came to our rescue, towing us uphill to overcome the obstacle.
With gratitude and determination, we successfully reached Coatzcoalcos, proving that no challenge is too great for the SolarButterfly!
