Gloucester is a city and district in southwest England, the county city of Gloucestershire. Gloucester lies close to the Welsh border, on the River Severn, between the Cotswolds to the east and the Forest of Dean to the southwest.
Gloucester was founded in AD 97 by the Romans under Emperor Nerva as Colonia Glevum Nervensis, and was granted its first charter in 1155 by King Henry II. Economically, the city is dominated by the service industries, and has a strong financial and business sector, and historically was prominent in the aerospace industry.
Gloucester is located on the eastern bank of the River Severn, sheltered by the Cotswolds to the east, while the Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills rise to the west and north, respectively. Gloucester is a port, linked via the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal which runs from Gloucester's docks to the Severn Estuary, allowing larger ships to reach the docks than would be possible on the tidal reaches of the river itself, which go well north of the city to Haw Bridge. The wharfs, warehouses and the docks themselves fell into disrepair until their renovation in the 1980s. They now form a public open space. Some warehouses now house the Gloucester Waterways Museum, others were converted into residential flats, shops and bars. Additionally, the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum is located in the Custom House. Next to the museum is Gloucester Yacht Club. The port still houses the most inland RNLI lifeboat in the United Kingdom.
Gloucester is made up of a variety of neighbourhoods, some of which correspond to electoral divisions of the City Council.

Gloucester is served by the M5 motorway, which runs to the east of the city. Until the construction of the Severn Bridge in 1966, Gloucester was the lowest bridging point on the river and hence was an important settlement on the route between London and South Wales. Gloucester railway station has frequent trains to London Paddington, Reading, Bristol, Cardiff Central, Nottingham and Birmingham.

Churchdown Fairground Extravaganza 2023
Video showing many of the illuminated & working models on display at the popular close season event which returned after a two year enforced absence in the new direction of Mikey Jones & Steve Cox. Passenger trains around Churchdown just outside Gloucester. Filmed from Chosen Hill then Pirton Lane and Parton Road bridges. No freight was running and not even a XC HST so it's all voyagers, IETs and 170s. A nice little walk round but nothing of any interest. Gloucestershire airport is not far away as your see and hear.

A walk around Holmes Chapel, probably most known for the hometown of Harry Styles.
We start on London Road by the Holmes Chapel Health Centre then head past the library and shopping arcade. Around Church View, you can see them getting prepared for Remembrance Day with poppies all around St Luke’s Church!
Down Macclesfield Road, you can see a group of girls getting excited about seeing W Mandeville Bakery (where Harry Styles used to work before finding fame)
Holmes Chapel is a large village and civil parish in the unitary authority area of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England; until 1974, the parish was known as Church Hulme. It is located about 8 miles (13 km) north of Crewe and 21 miles (34 km) south of Manchester.

We’re back to unpick more of the City of London’s stories and discover some of its treasures. This classic London history walk includes some of the City's most important locations as well as its centres of power. We start by going in search of a plaque marking the site of Shakespeare's lodgings in London and this leads us to the site of St Mary Aldermanbury and the garden that marks the location of this church that was destroyed in the blitz. We next visit St Alban, Wood Street, the lonely tower all that remains of the Wren Church built after the great fire on a site that has had a church since at least the 10th Century. We cross London Wall, visit the location of St Olaf Silver Street, the Roman Wall in Noble Street, and the site of St Mary Staining. Our walking tour then takes us to the magnificent Guildhall, home of the Corporation of London, and ‘an enduring symbol of London's past and present’. In the basement of the Guildhall Gallery I visit the remains of the Roman Amphitheatre that once occupied the site and was said to have a capacity of 6000. Moving on to Lothbury we visit the Bank of England, the first privately owned Central Bank and also the Royal Exchange and the Mansion House all situated around Bank Tube Station.

This is a jolly marvellous walking tour of Mile End and Bow in London's east end. Back in Victorian times this was one of the poorest areas of London but these days it's rather spiffing.

Pirton Circular Chilterns Walk 1 June 2021
A glorious 6.75 mile circular walk from the village of Pirton in Hertfordshire, which is to the north of Hitchin. There are some fantastic views from the Pegsdon Hills later in the walk. The walk took place in hot, sunny weather on Tuesday 1 June 2021.
