Places to see in ( Chesham - UK )
Chesham is a market town in the Chiltern Hills, Buckinghamshire, England. It is located 11 miles south-east of the county town of Aylesbury. Chesham is also a civil parish designated a town council within Chiltern district. It is situated in the Chess Valley and surrounded by farmland, as well as being bordered on one side by Amersham and Chesham Bois. The earliest records of Chesham as a settlement are from the second half of the 10th century although there is archaeological evidence of people in this area from around 8000 BC. Henry III granted the town a royal charter for a weekly market in 1257.
The town is known for its four Bs, usually quoted as:- boots, beer, brushes and Baptists. Chesham's prosperity grew significantly during the 18th and 19th centuries with the development of manufacturing industry. In the face of fierce competition from both home and abroad all these traditional industries rapidly declined. The ready availability of skilled labour encouraged new industries to the town both before and after the end of the Second World War. Today employment in the town is provided mainly by small businesses engaged in light industry, technology and professional services.
From the early part of the 20th century onwards there has been a considerable expansion of the town with new housing developments and civic infrastructure. Increasingly Chesham has also become a commuter town with improved connection to London via the London Underground and road networks. The town centre has been progressively redeveloped since the 1960s and was pedestrianised in the 1990s. The population of the town has increased to slightly over 20,000 but further growth has been restricted because the area forms part of the Metropolitan Green Belt.
The town is located in the Chess Valley and is 11 miles south-east of the county town of Aylesbury and is situated 25 miles (40 km) north west of central London. It is the fourth largest town in the ceremonial county of Buckinghamshire and the largest in Chiltern District. A clock tower constructed in 1992 stands in Market Square on the site of Chesham's 18th-century town hall demolished in 1965. Chesham war memorial stands in a landscaped garden in the Broadway.
In contrast to other towns in south Buckinghamshire, Chesham historically was not well served by road transport links. The stage coach bypassed the town and, unlike Amersham, there were no turnpikes and consequently roads were poorly maintained. Chesham tube station, close to the town centre, is the terminus for the Chesham branch, a single track spur off the London Underground Metropolitan line connecting to Chalfont and Latimer station.

What are the 10 prettiest towns in the county of Buckinghamshire? To determine this, I visited them all. Here's what I found out.

The Chiltern Heritage Trail: Great Missenden to Chesham Vale 10 July 2020
An 11.5 mile walk along the Chiltern Heritage Trail from Great Missenden to Chesham Vale via the iron age fort at Cholesbury. There was also an additional mile of walking from Chesham Vale to get into Chesham town from where I caught a bus. This is a day I will never forget because the first part of the walk was severely affected by the works for the new HS2 rail line. The walk took place in good weather on Friday 10 July 2020.
Lowndes Park, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, UK
Please Subscribe to my channel here:
Lowndes Park, is located off St. Mary's Way (HP5 1HU) and is a major historic feature of Chesham that was largely donated to the town in 1953 by the Lowndes family. Today, the park spans 36 acres and is managed by the Council.
The lower park provides children’s play areas (including a play area for 2 to 13 year olds created in 2009), a multi-sports court, a skateboard park installed in 2014, the historic avenue (also a cycle route), public toilets and Skottowes pond. A series of free, open air concerts is staged in the bandstand area during July and August each year. The park is also the site of many town events, including charity fun runs and the annual Schools of Chesham Carnival. The upper park provides fantastic views across the town, excellent walking and its less formal management has created habitats for local wildlife. There is also an Scheduled Ancient Monument of mysterious origins known locally as the Rolling Pin.

Ordinary England Episode 15 - Exploring Chesham
Time to explore The Chilterns in the next instalment of Ordinary England, and I've headed to the market town of Chesham, Buckinghamshire.
It's a walkers town and can be found on the Metropolitan Line of the London Underground (the very last station). It may not be everyone's first choice, but Chesham does have a few gems. So we take you on a little tour around the town.

Chilterns Walk Chesham to Rickmansworth, Chess Valley Walk 10-Mile of amazing countryside May21
Chilterns Walk Chesham to Rickmansworth (Chess Valley walk) Route
Grading Region - Chilterns County/Area - Buckinghamshire & Hertfordshire Length - 10.5 miles. Time - 5 hours 30 minutes Grade - easy/mod
The Chess Valley in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) extends for ten miles between Chesham in Buckinghamshire and the Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire.
This scenic route allowed us to follow the chalk stream of the River Chess in a general sense, for long periods the river is not seen as the path crosses fields or passes through woodland.
The scenery is stunning, the greenest of green your eyes can witness, featuring a number of points of historic interest and nature.
Absolutely a delightful day out. !!!!!
