Chasewater Railway | Drone Shots & Uncut Timelapse of an Isolated Heritage Railway

A visit to Chasewater Railway organised by Rail Society of University of Birmingham.

#trains #thetrainguy #britishrail

On the 2nd of April 2022, the RailSoc organised a visit to the Chasewater Railway with the members of the club getting to drive the Class 142 Pacer up and down the route.

Videos were taken by multiple members of the Rail Society. I have put together this video using the various shots shared.

The Chasewater Railway is a former colliery railway running round the shores of Chasewater in Staffordshire, England. It is now operated as a heritage railway.

The line is approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) in length, contained entirely within Chasewater Country Park. The route, which forms a horse-shoe shape around the lake, passes through heathland, including a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and passes over a 1⁄4-mile (0.40 km) long causeway.

Prior to preservation, the line was part of the network operated by the NCB to serve the coalfields of the Cannock Chase area. The exchange sidings, where the colliery line connected with the Midland Railway, were situated about 1⁄4 mile (0.40 km) north of the current Brownhills West Station.

Significant changes happened in 2002/2003 caused by the closure of the old Brownhills station, due to the building of the M6 Toll motorway. This led to the rebuilding of Brownhills West with significantly improved facilities, including a new carriage shed and heritage centre, and completion of the Chasetown section of the line (the 'Chasetown Extension Railway' between Chasewater Heaths and Chasetown Church Street).

In 2016 the Railway was awarded The Queens Award for Voluntary Services.

Volunteers are working to establish a 2 ft (610 mm) gauge narrow gauge railway close to the heritage centre.

Chasewater Railway Footplate Ride!!

As a former BR Fireman back in the dark ages, I was used to a little more space to swing a shovel. I've also done much footplate filming on the GCR from a Brittania down to an 0-6-0 'Jinty' but today goes on my CV as the smallest footplate it's been my pleasure to ride on & film thanks to the crew Mitch & Jay for allowing me to share their limited space for the short but enjoyable trip from Brownhills West to Chasewater Heaths.
If anyone wishes to view previous footplate videos on the Great Central Railway they can all be found in one place here...............

#Also of interest for me if no one else. The three uploads over this weekend are a milestone for me as I celebrate 10 years since creating this channel. I've enjoyed meeting (most) people and making new friends along the way as well as creating more improved videos with better equipment. I thank all my subscribers & viewers and always appreciate the support & responses to my efforts. I never set out to have 100% railway content which I felt restricted me, although it will always dominate this channel 'other stuff' will appear from time to time that I enjoy and may find an audience elsewhere....... in Outer Mongolia maybe!! OR even amongst those of you reading this diatribe now.

'Coal Train Day at Chasewater & New Loco Debut!!

Once again the Chasewater Railway has excelled itself with yet another of it's 'Coal Train Day' events of which I've filmed a fair few in recent years.
I doubt anyone else can do it better than this former colliery line and in such a lovely setting as the Chasewater Country Park just off the main A5 near Brownhills in South Staffordshire.
It's always a pleasure to visit this family friendly railway and meet the dedicated team of volunteers who bring the past to life for all to enjoy.
With a wonderful selection of industrial locomotives and a large fleet of wagons it's always worth a visit not to mention the usual facilities like the cafes, model shop & museum etc.

Oh yes...... and that new arrival to join the fleet!!
I don't have any technical history to hand but 9000 the Hunslet diesel seen in the video only arrived days before this event & so made a very rapid appearance. Apparently, British Nuclear Fuels at Sellafield in Cumbria has upgraded it's internal loco's to new battery electrics (which were trialled at Chasewater) and have kindly donated this now redundant loco to it's new home here at Brownhills. The NCB logo on cabside having been added on arrival and for this event.
