Beautiful Beaune France! + Chagny's VAST Market [4k Travel Vlog]
The Burgundy region of France is amazing! In this 4k travel video, we visit Chagny, France, by train - and stare at the stunning Beaune Burgundy tile of the Hospices de Beaune. Is Beaune worth visiting? Watch to find out!
Chagny is a smaller town, just 10 minutes by train from Beaune - but their market is extensive! Held weekly on Sundays, the day starts quiet as we are early ones to the market, but the space quickly fills up by shoppers (almost entirely locals!). All of the stand owners are incredibly nice and this was an amazing visit. Their roast chicken stand smells (and tastes!) incredible.
Beaune itself is a beautiful town, with a hospital that has stunning roof tiles that haven't been re-colored for over 100 years! Beaune can be found in the center of the Bourgogne area, a region that is also very well known for their food (and wine! but that's a different episode). Make reservations right when you arrive, because many restaurants were full, even when traveling during COVID (summer 2021)! We do share some of the foods we enjoyed.

6 luxurious things to do in Beaune- Burgundy during winter week-end or holidays
Hello, we’ll take you for a weekend with the girls in Beaune, Burgundy. Just 1 hr 40 from Lyon and 2hr 15 from Paris by train, Beaune invites you to spend an unforgettable time here with us.
- 🍇 Discover the Côte de Beaune in the morning, at sunrise, and watch a magical show.
There’s often a light mist in the distance skimming the valley. The sun is just peeking out on the horizon. It’s not uncommon to see Mont Blanc emerging against the pure winter sky. Dressed up warm, you can explore the vineyards of the Côte de Beaune. To protect their vines from the cold, the winemakers walk around with their arms full of straw, which they burn in large braziers. The columns of smoke that rise above the vineyards are a unique sight.
🌐 Our wonderful tours out in the vineyards:
- 🔨 Visit a cooperage in the Hautes Côtes de Beaune. The cold is sharp outside. Going into a cooperage is a real shock to the system. The fire crackles all around. The craftsmen are busy making barrels that will hold Burgundy’s Grands Crus. The know-how you see in front of you dates back hundreds of years. Wood, metal, fire and the hand of man.
🌐 Cooperage to visit: L’Art du Tonneau:
- On the video: La Tonnellerie François:
- 🍄 Go in search of Burgundy truffle. Yes, Burgundy has plenty of surprises in store. But in a region where gastronomy and wine are the undisputed stars, what could be more natural than to see truffles growing there. They are found in the shade of specific species, thanks to the help of dogs trained for “cavage” (truffle hunting).
🌐 Suggested places to find great Burgundy truffles:
- Le Domain de la Combotte
- La Maison aux Milles Truffes
- Domain Rion
- Le Clos de la Belle Chatelaine
- 👩🍳 Meet up for a cookery class. Once the fresh truffle has been gathered in, you might as well learn how to cook it. There are endless recipes, and Burgundy truffle provides the final touch that gives a special taste to your dish. Spending a little time together for a cookery class is all about interaction, laughter and pleasure that you can share. And in winter, these moments are more important than ever to cheer ourselves up.
🌐 Our great suggestions for cookery classes
- Terroirs by Adeline: courses based around wine
- Flaveurs & Chefs: Pastry classes with great chefs for adults and children
- Le Charlemagne: courses with a Michelin-starred chef
- 🍽️ Share lunch in a Michelin-starred Burgundy restaurant. Beaune and its surrounding area are definitely places of true gastronomy. The town and its surrounding villages contain several Michelin-starred restaurants where you can enjoy the friendly, gourmet experience of your choice. Whether in the centre of Beaune or in Levernois, for example, Burgundy’s great chefs have just one aim: to transcend the flavours of their dishes.
🌐 Our wonderful restaurant suggestions in and around Beaune:
La Table de Levernois (on video):
- 💆🏽 Take care of yourself before heading back to work in January. Autumn has been complicated with lockdown. What’s more, in winter, we love to be pampered and take time for ourselves. So why not establish your cocooning routine and come and spend a weekend in Burgundy? Dive into an indoor pool, relax in a hot tub, get rid of toxins in a steam room or sauna and relax with a massage ... these are the promises you get when you stay in and around Beaune.
🌐 Our wonderful Spa and Well-being places to go:
Spa Fruitithérapie de la Cueillette (our video):

Beaune, in the Burgundy region of France in 4 days including Nuits Saint Georges and Dijon
We stayed just outside the historic town centre which is surrounded by a moat and which wall. The Bouzaize river flows under the town, there is a wash house, Lavoir St Jacques, built 1887, on its banks. We took the tourist train for an orientation trip of the town and surrounding area then visited the famous hospice for the poor built 1443 and the Collegiale Basque Notre Dame. The next day we went to Nuits Saint Georges with the Elise St Symphorien (13th century), the museum (which was closed), bought some wine at L’Imaginarium (which had a video show of the history of their wine as well as a tasting) and finally Abbaye Notre Dame de Citeau, a Cistercian Abbey. The next day we bought a picnic and hired bikes to cycle along the very well marked “Route des Grands Crus” through the vineyards visiting Pommard, Meursault and finally Volnay where we bought a few bottles of the excellent wine we tasted. On the last day we visited The Well of Moses (1400) on our way to Dijon which has more to it than mustard. Dijon has an excellent “Owl Trail” which winds through the lovely old town past all the well known sights such as their Notre Dame, their busy market, and old buildings such as Maison Milliere (1483), le Nef, the Palais des Ducs de Burgundy with the Tombs of Philip the Bold and John the Fearless and the Cathedral Saint Benign. Before we left Beaune we spent the morning in their excellent Saturday Market.

🚴🏻 get your bike out and ride the Voie des Vignes.
There’s no Col de Tourmalet here, but Burgundy’s hills invite you to enjoy a quiet, relaxing bike ride. And it's great to discover the vineyard enclosures that conceal Burgundy’s Grands Crus.
And if cycling isn’t for you, you can always follow the Voie des Vignes by scooter, moped, horse-drawn carriage, 2CV ... you’re spoilt for choice.
Bike and electric scooter circuit:
Moped circuit:
By horse-drawn carriage:
In a Citroën 2CV:
🎈 float through the sky in a hot air balloon
You’ll see life from a different perspective as you soar above the vineyards of Burgundy. It's the start of the hot air ballooning season, as they take to the skies to show you Burgundy’s “Climats” as seen from above.
Air Escargot:
🍷 Enjoy a glass of Chardonnay out among the vines
It's dusk, the light is splendid, you’re with the one you love or among friends, and you taste the best Chardonnay in the world😁
🇫🇷Cruising the Locks of the Canal du Centre Between Fragnes and Chagny
🇫🇷On its 6-night cruises, the luxury 6-pax Grand Victoria canal barge travels some 100km (about 60 miles) along the Canal du Centre and the Saône River between the tiny port of Chagny and Auxonne in Burgundy, France. Along the way, Grand Victoria passes through many fascinating locks of various kinds. Most have chambers that the barge enters like an elevator.
Grand Victoria was built in the 1980s to the specifications of the heiress to the DeKuyper liquor fortune & designed for her private travel around Europe; Grand Victoria was lovingly renovated and redecorated in 2015 by the current owners.

Hiking France's Burgundy Region's Route des Grands Crus, Meursault to Beaune (Oct 5, 2022)
After a two-year delay due to COVID, we made it to France for two weeks. Our original plan was to bicycle in the Loire River area, but a broken collarbone made us cancel the bicycling. Instead, we changed to the northeast part of France, the Alsace and Burgundy regions. This area had been on our radar for many reasons and it did not disappoint.
We spent 6 days in the beautiful city of Beaune in the heart of the Burgundy region. Our first walk was from the town of Meursault (pronounced: muhr so, as I found out after our walk) back to our apartment in Beaune along the Routes des Grands Crus. Despite walking in a thick fog for 5 miles of our walk it was a beautiful walk through the vineyards and towns (Meursault, Volnay, Pommard). We did a tasting in Pommard at the Armand Heitz ( ) tasting room which was a nice informative tasting, and we picked up a bottle of their Juliénas Gamay to enjoy later. Luckily the sun did finally come out for our entrance to Beaune.

Cycling the Wine Route in Beaune, Burgundy! [France Vlog]
We rented a bicycle and an ebike again! In this travel vlog episode, we Electric cycle from Beaune and head south cycling the wine route to discover the Burgundy (now BFC) countryside and also try some wine. We bicycle through Pommard, Volnay, and Meursault (and more!). The countryside is beautiful and the riding is uncrowded and easy, with fantastic well marked paths. This cycling trip is a section of the Route des Grands Crus (wine route).
On our way back, we stop at a cafe to try some chardonnay... But we are running late and in our haste to return the bikes, our video camera takes a tumble. Watch to see whether it can be fixed!
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING!

Beaune and Burgundy : The best place for Autumn colour in France
A romantic couple getting away from the hustle and bustle and finding themselves walking hand in hand in small village streets in Burgundy; that’s the experience you will live in the Pays Beaunois area. But first of all, Burgundy in autumn is the time of the grape harvest. And it’s at this very harvest time that your heart will touch the soul of Burgundy. Some wine domains of the Côte de Beaune offer harvest experiences, like the Château de Pommard, the Domaine Besancenot or the Château de la Crée. Our harvest heroes had the pleasure of sharing these magical moments with Pascal Charles at the Domaine Charles in Nantoux. They followed in the steps of the harvesters, their hands on steel-sharp secateurs and their shoulders supporting the grape baskets and hods. There they were – taking part in the harvest: the atmosphere, the good humour, the pleasure of sharing those moments when everyone knows that the quality of the wines of Burgundy depends on this work. Such excitement to know that one is participating a little in the creation of a great wine. Back in the winery with the crop, harvester hands are busy on the sorting conveyor. Just by touch, their experience tells them which berries to reject. Their fingers dance back and fore, caressing the grapes, ending up covered in sugar from the ripe bunches of red Pinot Noir or white Chardonnay. Autumn in Burgundy also means vast expanses of colours that spread as far as the eye can see. At dawn or nightfall, the ballet of sunlight on the bronze and russet leaves offers a spectacle worthy of the most beautiful canvasses of Van Gogh. The Hill of Corton is resplendent and reigns over these hectares of vineyard fragmented in small parcels. The Climats of Burgundy have donned their autumnal fineries. These are the same shades of yellow, orange, red to be found on the lacquered roof tiles of the monuments and castles of Beaune and the villages of the Pays Beaunois area: Aloxe-Corton, Meursault, Beaune, Santenay… It’s the perfect time for two people to escape for a romantic jaunt in a Citroën 2CV or hand in hand. Stop for a few moments in the square of Savigny-lès-Beaune and exchange contented glances. You will return to Beaune to visit the Hospices de Beaune. This historical monument was a ground-breaking hospital from its construction in 1492. And finally, come back in mid-November to be present at the mythical Wine Auction of the Hospices de Beaune. This charitable sale, directed today by the famous Christie's auction house, is one of the sources of revenue for the public hospital in Beaune. The barrels of wine put up for auction come from the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune: the greatest wines come together there every year and are made available to professional buyers from the whole world. The town of Beaune and its surrounding villages are simmering with a very special excitement at that time. It is time to party. The laughter, togetherness, heated discussions combine to recompense the hard labour of winemakers each year to create and perfect some of the best wines in the world. Many Burgundians will whisper it in your ear: autumn is the most beautiful of the seasons.
