6 días en un TREN LUJOSO (España) - 4K

Durante 5 días recorrí la Costa Verde de España desde Santiago de Compostela hasta Bilbao a bordo de un tren lujoso de época: el transcantábrico Costa Verde Express de Renfe.

Comenzamos la travesía en Santiago de Compostela, en el Parador Hostal Reyes Católicos: un antiguo hospital convertido en hotel de lujo, justo en la plaza de la Catedral de Santiago.

Todos los viajeros del tren nos encontramos en un salón del Hostal para hacer el check-in.

Luego de dejar nuestro equipaje, nos dieron una visita guiada por el Parador y el centro histórico de la ciudad, y almorzamos comida de altísimo nivel antes de subirnos a un autobus climatizado que nos llevaría hasta el tren, en la ciudad de Ferrol.

El interior de cada vagón está revestido en madera, con decoración de época. Antes de ir a nuestras habitaciones -mientras la tripulación llevaba nuestras maletas a la suite de cada viajero- hicimos un brindis de bienvenida en los vagones comedor (hay dos en total). Además hay un coche-sala de lectura o recreación, y un coche-bar para distintas actividades de entretenimiento por la noche.

Finalmente llegó el momento de conocer mi suite, algo con lo que venía fantaseando desde que supe que iba a hacer esta travesía. Caminé por los estrechos pasillos del tren hasta llegar a la mía -la 21- y al entrar me invadió una felicidad enorme.

Una cama doble ocupaba la mayor parte de la habitación, con la cabecera en una pared, y los pies dando a la ventana por la que en unos minutos comenzaría a ver las más hermosas vistas de la Costa Verde. Una pequeña mesita ocultaba debajo un mini-bar, y el espacio de guardado estaba dispuesto de forma astuta: debajo de la cama para las maletas, por encima de la misma unos estantes para dejar ítems personales, un pequeño armario para colgar la ropa y hasta una alacena en la pared lateral de la cama que ni siquiera llegué a usar porque no había empacado tantas cosas.

Aunque lo más sorprendente fue el cuarto de baño completo, con todo y ducha escocesa, un espejo con luces y más espacio de guardado, y por supuesto un váter perfectamente funcional.

Cuando entré por primera vez en la habitación mi maleta estaba esperándome guardada bajo la cama, y sobre la misma estaba una bata súper cómoda, zapatillas (pantuflas) para estar en la habitación, y un neceser con todos los elementos de higiene personal que podría necesitar -solamente faltaba acondicionador, un dato para viajeros y viajeras de pelo largo.

Al rato el ferrocarril se puso en marcha y las hermosas vistas de mar, montañas y acantilados comenzaron a sucederse ante mis ojos, mientras las admiraba ¡desde mi cama!

Por la noche tuvimos nuestra primera cena a bordo, en el coche comedor que ahora estaba “vestido” para la cena, mientras los paisajes se sucedían por la ventana.

Un dato interesante es que nunca hemos dormido con el tren en movimiento: para pasar la noche siempre se estacionaba en una estación.

Durante los siguientes cuatro días viví como si estuviera en un crucero sobre rieles: los desayunos siempre en el tren, luego partir a diferentes excursiones, almorzar o en Paradores o en restaurantes de primera categoría como El Corral del Indianu (con una estrella Michelin), tiempo libre en el tren o recorriendo alguna ciudad, y cenas a bordo con algo de entretenimiento luego.

Con el autobús de aliado hicimos turismo en sitios como Gijón, Áviles, Luarca, Oviedo, los Picos de Europa, el Santuario de Covadonga, la neocueva de Altamira, la Playa de las Catedrales, Santander y Bilbao, nuestra estación final.
